This month Derek and I had the blessing of taking 108 jr and sr high school students to camp Estes in Colorado. It was really put on my heart to go. So much so that I quit my job so I could go. Man, did God move big during that week. We saw students giving their lives to The Lord for the first time and many rededications. But God didn't just move in the students, he moved big in the leaders too.
During camp God allowed me to feel just a portion of the love he feels for these students and it was overwhelming—I was on the brink of tears for most of the day. But what I wanted to share is that The Lord put the book of Proverbs on my heart. So today I begin an in depth study of the book. To make sure I get to the heart of it I'm only going to do 1-2 verses per day.
Objectives (after this you should be able to):
Differentiate between a worldly proverb and a biblical proverb
Identify why Proverbs was written
Identify who Solomon was
Oh you know teaching the kids the classics. #blueandswiperchronicles (at Wingspan)
Our Adventure with Chocolate Pasta!
The idea first came up when I was living in Australia. I was watching this show called Ready Steady Cook where one of the chefs made chocolate pasta. The idea has always intrigued me and years later I finally tried!
Verdict: The dish was tasty, but very heavy. We were only really able to eat a few bites. Additionally the bites we took of the pasta that did not have any fruit or nut garnish tended to be a little bland. We decided only to make half of the recommended sauce. The sauce is a little bit on the sugary/ unhealthy side but dang was it tasty.

Recipe from ( http://www.cookingchanneltv.com/recipes/kelsey-nixon/chocolate-pasta-with-chocolate-hazelnut-cream-sauce-white-chocolate-shavings-and-fresh-berries.html )
For Pasta 2 1/2 cups flour (plus a little more for kneading)
1/4 cup unsweetened cocoa powder 1/4 cup powdered sugar 3 large eggs, beaten 1 tablespoon chocolate syrup 1 teaspoon vanilla extract 1 pinch salt
Chocolate Hazelnut Cream Sauce 1 cup heavy cream 1 cup nutella 1 pinch salt
Directions: 1. Combine flour, cocoa, sugar, salt in a large bowl or on a flat work surface. (photos 2-3) 2. hollow out center of flour and make a well in the middle with steep sides. 3. combine eggs, vanilla, and chocolate syrup in a bowl and whisk. 4. pour egg mixture into flour well and slowly begin to incorporate flour by pulling flour from the sides of the well into the egg mixture. You will start to see your dough take shape. (pictures 4-5) 5. Mix dough with hands 6. Determine that it is messy and instead put dough in Kitchen-Aid mixer (photo 6) 7. If the dough is too dry add water 1 teaspoon at a time. If it is too wet add 1 teaspoon flour. 8. Once dough is smooth shape into a disc and cover in plastic wrap and put in fridge for 20-30 min. 9. Since this makes a lot of pasta we divided this up into 4 pieces and worked on one at a time. 10. Our pasta machine doesn't like to work for us so we do the rolling and cutting by hand. If you have a machine and it likes you feel free to cut it appropriately. Derek and I roll the dough typically until about as thick as a dime. 11. Once the dough is about as thick as a dime you can cut it into individual pieces. What I would change about this is that I would do thinner pasta to make it less heavy. I used a steak knife but Derek prefers a pizza cutter. (photo 7) 12. Add pasta to boiling water and let cook for about 3 minutes. While waiting for the water to boil I'd recommend starting on the sauce.
Sauce-y 1. bring the heavy cream to a simmer over medium heat 2. slowly stir in nutella. (One tip to getting the nutella out of the box and into the pot is to wet the measuring cup prior to putting in the nutella. Won't really affect the flavor but will allow the spread to more easily slide off!) 3. add a pinch of salt! 4. whisk until sauce is creamy and even.
After draining your pasta, plate and put a little sauce on it. Derek and I strongly recommend garnishing with fresh fruit like strawberries or raspberries and some walnuts. I'd also add a little powdered sugar for presentation, and enjoy!
