I like storms.
"I like storms. Thunder, torrential rain, puddles, wet shoes. When the clouds roll in, I get filled with this giddy expectation. Everything is more beautiful in the rain. Don't ask me why. But it's like this whole other realm of opportunity. I used to feel like a superhero, riding my bike over the dangerously slick roads, or maybe and Olympic athlete enduring rough trials to make it to the finish line. On sunny days, as a girl, I could still wake up to that thrilled feeling. You made me giddy with expectation, just like a symphonic rainstorm. You were a tempest in the sun, the thunder in a boring, cloudless sky.
When my world feels insecure and when I am scared; you were the person that turned things right again. Nothing hurt if I knew I had you. Then one day, out of the blue, I lost you. My rainstorm was gone, and you became cruel. There was no explanation. You were just gone. My heart was ripped open. I missed you. Everything still hurts, but I know none of it is my fault. There are lot of words to describe you, but the only one that includes sad, angry, miserable, and pitiful is "coward." In time, we'll go different ways, and you'll be nothing but some washout whose height of existence was from the past.
You were my tempest, my thunder cloud, my tree in the downpour. I loved all those things, and I loved you.
But now? You're a fucking drought. I thought that all the assholes drove German cars, but it turns out that pricks in Mustangs can still leave scars."
Life, he realize, was much like a song. In the beginning there is mystery, in the end there is confirmation, but it’s in the middle where all the emotion resides to make the whole thing worthwhile.

please fucking read this thank you
I know my being happy is an anomaly. No one knows me better than you. But I can say without avoiding your gaze, without crossing my fingers behind my back; or the other things I do when speaking untruthfully—I am happy. I know the rain does not discriminate between day or night and either will hold its own light and dark—but now, at this very moment, I feel like I am the sun. And I know in my heart, I will always look upon this time—not without a sense of melancholy—that it was the happiest in my life.

butterbeer cupcakes (makes around 18)
for the cupcakes: 2 cups flour 1 1/2 teaspoons baking powder 1/2 teaspoon baking soda 1/4 teaspoon salt 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened 1/2 cup granulated sugar 1/2 cup dark brown sugar, packed 3 large eggs 1 tablespoon butterscotch schnapps 1/2 cup buttermilk 1/2 cup cream soda
For the filling: 5 1/2 ounces butterscotch chips (half an 11 ounce package or a little less than a cup) 1/2 cup heavy cream
For the frosting: 1/2 cup (1 stick) unsalted butter, softened 1/3 cup butterscotch filling 1 tablespoon butterscotch schnapps 1/8 teaspoon salt 3 1/2 to 4 cups powdered sugar Splash of cream soda (as needed)
directions: 1. to make the cupcakes, preheat oven to 350º and line cupcake pans with liners. 2. in a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, baking powder and salt and set aside. 3. in the bowl of a stand mixer fitted with the paddle attachment, cream the butter on medium speed until light and fluffy. add both sugars and continue beating until well combined. on low speed, add eggs one at a time, beating well after each addition. 4. combine the schnapps and buttermilk. add the dry ingredients in three batches, alternating with the cream soda and buttermilk. 5. mix until just combined, scraping the sides and bottom of the bowl as needed. fill each cupcake liner about 3/4 full, then bake for 15-17 minutes until a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean. cool completely on a wire rack. 6. while the cupcakes are cooling, make the filling by combining the butterscotch chips and heavy cream in a glass bowl set over a pot of simmering water. stir occasionally until combined. 7. remove from heat and allow to cool to room temperature. transfer to a squeeze bottle and fill each cupcake just until the filling comes to the top. 8. to make the frosting, cream the butter on medium speed until light and fluffy. Add the butterscotch filling, schnapps and salt and beat until well combined. 9. on low speed, beat in the powdered sugar one cup at a time until desired consistency is reached. Add cream soda as needed to thin the frosting. 10. frost cupcakes and drizzle with remaining syrup.
enjoy!
This is how you lose her.
You lose her when you forget to remember the little things that mean the world to her: the sincerity in a stranger’s voice during a trip to the grocery, the delight of finding something lost or forgotten like a sticker from when she was five, the selflessness of a child giving a part of his meal to another, the scent of new books in the store, the surprise short but honest notes she tucks in her journal and others you could only see if you look closely.
You must remember when she forgets.
You lose her when you don’t notice that she notices everything about you: your use of the proper punctuation that tells her continuation rather than finality, your silence when you’re about to ask a question but you think anything you’re about to say to her would be silly, your mindless humming when it is too quiet, your handwriting when you sign your name in blank sheets of paper, your muted laughter when you are trying to be polite, and more and more of what you are, which you don’t even know about yourself, because she pays attention.
She remembers when you forget.
You lose her for every second you make her feel less and less of the beauty that she is. When you make her feel that she is replaceable. She wants to feel cherished. When you make her feel that you are fleeting. She wants you to stay. When you make her feel inadequate. She wants to know that she is enough and she does not need to change for you, nor for anyone else because she is she and she is beautiful, kind and good.
You must learn her.
You must know the reason why she is silent. You must trace her weakest spots. You must write to her. You must remind her that you are there. You must know how long it takes for her to give up. You must be there to hold her when she is about to.
You must love her because many have tried and failed. And she wants to know that she is worthy to be loved, that she is worthy to be kept.
And, this is how you keep her.
