While weâre on the topic of TGWDLM:R, hereâs a reminder appropriate/not appropriate ways to show your love for the show if youâre seeing it live:
â Cheering/clapping when the house lights go down: yes absolutely!! Itâs an exciting moment!!
â Cheering/clapping at the end of numbers: 10000% yes!! Perfect time to show appreciation
â Laughing at jokes: of course! Itâs a funny show
â Cheering/clapping at intermission: yes! They just killed the first act. Clap through the whole intermission if you want
â Organic reactions: no problem! But the key is organic (Iâm thinking about the audience reaction in the scene where Bill tries to save Alice as an example - people are in the moment! Theyâre invested!)
â Cheering/clapping at the end of the show: fucking absolutely!!!! Go wild!! Give Lauren the fourth wall break nightmare she deserves!!
đ« Screaming/cheering/clapping over the start of the opening number: no! If youâre still going when Jeff starts singing youâve gone too long
đ« Screaming/cheering/clapping at peopleâs entrances: no! I know you love them. I know you want to let them know. But save it for those appropriate moments. The comedic timing of this show was already great and theyâve finessed it even more, so donât stop the flow. Even for cameos I know people will be excited about! Even for your favourite actor/character!
đ« Any kind of heckling: definitely not!! This is not an interactive show. They donât need you to make jokes or give commentary. Same for exaggerated dramatic reactions
đ« Saying the lines/singing the songs: hard fucking no!!!!! You know them all. Same! But keep it in your head. People arenât paying to hear you, theyâre paying to hear the cast. Save the singing/quoting along out loud for the digital ticket/youtube version at home!
Multiple members of the cast have expressed their wish for good audience etiquette. Theyâve worked so so hard on this show so let them perform it the way they want to without interruption, as well intentioned as it may be! I promise they will still feel the love!
TGWDLM:R West End opens in TWO WEEKS(!!!!!?!!!) so itâs time to bring back this (Joey and Lauren endorsed!) post
I feel like itâs a particularly important reminder because the two shows weâve had in London until now have been concerts so yes being the loudest audience in palladium history was a great thing for those but thatâs not the energy we should be bringing here!! We want enthusiastic but not disruptive
A rule of thumb, if a general audience member whoâs never seen this or any of the hatchetfield shows wouldnât understand why youâre making noise, then donât do it! Because there 100% will be people in the audience whoâve never seen the show before and may not even be familiar with starkid so not only do they deserve to have the best experience too but we want to make a good impression and not put them off checking out their other work/coming to another starkid show in the west end which is definitely totally happening
