i'm PC36. you can also call me "PC" or "sylvie" in more casual contexts the 36 is kind of a last name with respect to formality. in this sense, the "thorn" in my various usernames is similar to a middle name, despite not being in the middle of my name
i'm transfem (she/they/it)
i'm a minor
i used to use cohost but that got shut down in 2024 so i moved here (i had looked at posts from here for a while before though)
i used to use tumblr a lot more but now i don't. i'm mostly active online in specific discord servers
my main interest is mashup tournaments. if you wanna learn about them you can read this wiki but otherwise i will explain them at the bottom of this post. yes i created the wiki originally but i left being an admin after like a year; don't assume i agree with all the rules currently on there
i also make mashups myself. it's much less frequently than i like so i don't have that much public content i'm proud of but it's what i would consider my main mode of creative expression
i'm very anti-copyright law
i don't consume much new media in part due to executive function issues but some other stuff i like includes minecraft (and many other things based in minecraft), girls band cry, shimeji simulation, 17776, logic/puzzle games, and math (mostly a lot of math youtube i wish i did self-study lmao)
under the cut is me explaining mashup tournaments
if you've seen siivagunner's "king for a day" and "king for another day" tournaments, the tl;dr is that they're like that, but Different in some ways
mashup tournaments (or just tourneys for short if you're an active community member) are a media genre in which you create mashups for various characters and have them compete in a tournament
these characters are almost always from other pieces of media. or real people who are musicians or internet personalities or whatever. you'll occasionally get original characters made specifically for a tournament or self-inserts of community members but it's mostly the first two things
these characters will usually have a "sourcelist", which is a list of what music they can use (or will mostly be using) in their mashups. these sources are usually like "songs by this musician/band" "songs from this media" "songs from this music genre" "songs from this genre of games/tv/whatever" "songs about/related to this concept"
multiple characters can share a mashup (we call these "dual tracks"). this is the really fun part especially if you like crossover media
most mashup tournaments are, well, tournaments. they have the characters compete in matches (usually in a bracket format) with audience voting deciding the victor. these matches also involve mashups, with each character getting a solo track (their "hype track"), and then both characters getting one or more dual tracks together
there's also often original art made for tournaments, usually in the form of renders and "stocks". stocks are usually art of a character's face or similar and intended to be used as a small icon to represent them either as an emote or on a bracket image or whatever
some mashup tournaments also have writing. this is less common than art, especially for writing that's more than just like one quote per character for a match
basically all mashup tournaments are hosted on soundcloud, youtube, or both
some caveats to the above:
some projects don't have a competition/tournament aspect at all, and just make character-based mashups for fun. despite this, they are still often called "tourneys". lol
some projects have little to no art. we call them "pngtourneys" and there was a big wave of them last year that still hasn't fully stopped. they're like all on soundcloud
some projects don't have a sourcelist, and will pull whatever they want, perhaps without a listed reason. we call these "anarchy" projects
here's a list of tracks i recommend you listen to! let me convince you to get into Thing I Like

it’s been said many times but it’s so fucked that there’s so much music out there and you’ll get to listen to so little of it. and then this also goes for like. every other artform
it always trips me up when writing unitalicizes in the middle of an italicized line/block of text instead of double-italicizing it. i think we should be allowed to have nested levels of italicization
the one non-family “vacation”/trip i ever had ended up being like actually the worst week ever of my life so maybe vacations as a concept are just like ruined for me for the next however many years if not forever
