No jumping on the furniture!
Build It & They Will Come?? Unfortunately, this seems to be a huge misconception when it comes to business owners understanding of their websites. This actually held water back in the 90's when websites were just taking root & there simply wasn't much to choose from. Now, there are so many websites it's really easy to get lost in the virtual haystack. Business owners need to be prepared AFTER having their business website built to budget for search engine optimization (SEO), a solid social media marketing strategy & maybe consider search engine marketing for the business website or customers simply won't come. Remember the 5 "P's" : Proper Preparation Prevents Poor Production
Adding backlinks will help your ranking with Google. These backlinks are considered to be "endorsements" for your website, blog, product or service. Google takes these endorsements into consideration when placing your website in the search ranking. In order to get backlinks you'll need to give your endorsers a reason to add you on their website. Any content that provides some form of value to your (or your endorsers) audience. Some different types of content that typically can be used as linkable assets: -Unique research or data. -Visually engaging images. -Well-designed infographics. -How-to articles/guides. -Industry news coverage. -Entertaining games or quizzes. -Helpful tools. -Instructional or amusing videos. -Humorous material. -Educational podcasts/webinars Any of the above is what we mean by "quality content" and makes getting Backlinks much easier! Keep working at creating your "quality content" and requesting Backlinks and Google will begin placing your website higher & higher in their organic results! As the Web evolves & grows, it's no secret that websites are getting smaller. It's not just the size of the pages but the design itself is beginning to look more & more like a Mobile app rather than a Mobile website. This evolution is rapidly becoming a normal occurrence & those companies that don't keep up might find themselves left behind. This is where having a Web designer working for you will become useful. By the time a decent template version is released, the trend will most certainly change.
Social Media Master!
It takes time, effort & creativity to be effective at Social Media Management! The biggest mistake business owners make is spending money on a website, & then falling short when it comes time to market it. They fall into the “Field of Dreams” misconception. Thinking ‘If I build it, they will come.’ Although this makes for a good line in a movie, it simply doesn’t hold water where websites are concerned. If you want your website to do well, hire a good social media manager & more importantly, stay in it for the long haul. Likes, follows & a loyal audience isn’t built over night. http://www.pcwebbuilders.com
Social Circles...
To our surprise, many clients that approach us don't necessarily need website assistance. We've seen a larger trend in social media management (SMM). Contrary to popular belief, Social Media Management is more involved than simply letting your son or daughter play on Facebook as your account page. If you're going to do it yourself, you should start by creating a rock solid strategy & sticking to your goals. It also helps to know which social media networks you should post on & the best times to gain your biggest audience. You can spend years posting the same commercial (buy my product, or visit my website.. etc.) and not surprisingly get little to no results. The best free advice I can give is, post quality content at peak times on the most popular social media networks. It is challenging & an uphill climb starting out but if you stick with it, you will gain followers, clicks to your website & phone calls. There are no secret shortcuts.

Web Traffic Sources
When monitoring your website analytics, it can be a little overwhelming. Learning where your page views are coming from can be valuable information. There are five main sources: 1) Organic Search: this is when traffic has arrived from a search engine (e.g. Google) via its organic, i.e. non-paid, search results 2) Paid Search: When traffic arrives from a search engine via paid results 3) Direct: where someone has typed your web address directly into their browser. 4) Referral: where the visitor has clicked on a link to your website from a different website, e.g. Tumblr, eBay etc. 5) Social: traffic from Facebook, Pinterest, LinkedIn, Instagram, etc.

I often get asked “Where on my webpage is the BEST place for social icons”.
There’s a lot of debate on the perfect place for your social media icons. While there’s no “perfect“ spot for icon placement, here are a few ideas to consider.
The “header” is a good place to add your social icons. They are usually visible when the visitor lands on the page.
You can consider adding your social media icons in the “sidebar”
The “footer” is another decent place for social icons, but if your page doesn’t fit on a single screen, your visitor might not scroll down to see them. (hopefully they will)
Many times I notice people forget to add social icons to the “About” page. This (IMO) is just a missed opportunity to showcase what social media platforms you can be located on.
Where ever you decide to put your social icons, the point is to inform & drive traffic to other avenues where people (customers, fans, etc.) can find out more.

In a pilot project announced Wednesday, students will be able to take a semester of free online courses in one of MIT's graduate programs and then, if they pay a "modest fee" of about $1,500 and pass an exam, they will earn a MicroMaster's credential, the school said. The new credential represents half of the university's one-year master's degree program in supply chain management. Students in the supply chain management program are typically mid-career workers who take a year off work for intense training. [...] MIT said there's heavy demand from companies to train more students in the field, which examines the flow of goods from manufacturer to consumer. The Georgia Institute of Technology offers an online master's degree in computer science for $6,600, but the classes can be taken for free without credit. "The new MicroMaster's is an important modular credential for the digital age, and promises to serve as academic currency in a continuous, lifelong learning world," Anant Agarwal, an MIT professor and CEO of edX, said in a statement.
This is an awesome idea MIT is following through with!
