We’re a little late on this, but back in September Jean-Paul attended the Seventh Annual Muhammad Ali Humanitarian Awards. It was a great evening with some amazing honorees. Jean-Paul was able to meet some of the award winners and hear more about their journeys. ° Michael Lang is best known for co-creating and producing the original 1969 Woodstock Festival, received the Lifetime Achievement Award for using music to spread a universal message of unity and peace. @michael_scott_lang_ ° Laura Ulloa, age 29 (Home Country: Colombia) Respect Award for helping former guerrillas in her country get reintegrated into society. Laura was kidnapped and held captive by the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) when she was just 11 years old. Two years later, her school bus was hijacked and Laura was take as the sole hostage. Laura works with many agencies, organizations, and projects that are changing lives. @lauraulloagonzalez ° Majd Almashharawi, age 25 (Home Country: Gaza) Confidence Award for solving a persistent local challenge of helping to re-construct buildings destroyed by war in an area where many construction materials don’t make it over the border. She invented a new process for making a strong, low-cost brick from ashes. A few weeks ago, we attended a Kentucky 120 event, put on by Preservation Kentucky. The host committee at the Crescent Hill Reservoir Gatehouse location were our friends at the Louisville Water Company and JRA Architects. The Gatehouse was constructed in 1881 and the restoration project was led by JRA in 2011. PDM Architects provided roof consultation for the project. Which included terracata roof deck restoration and slate roof removal and replacement. This was a very unique roof assembly. The terracotta was originally selected because of its lightweight and fire resistant capabilities. The slate was adhered in a mortar adhesive directly to the terracotta tile as opposed to a typical nail attachment.
