Well, the sun was starting to come out. This deluge of rain has forced me to dig up old photos of good times in the sun. I found these gems from last year's Portland Bridge Pedal! For an entire day the city shuts down all of its major bridges (12+?) for bikers. It's a great time and thousands of people show up for it. If you're in the neighborhood around August 11th this year, I'll see you out there!
I love my commute to and from downtown PDX. The Hawthorne Bridge has a great bike/walking path going each direction. You get great views of OMSI and the little harbor, and even a few other bridges.
Great saying (particularly for Portland!)
Saw Bridgetown's greener side as I went on a great five mile (round trip) hike up the Wildwood Trail in Forest Park today. The trail begins at the Lower Macleay Park entrance and is right on the outskirts of residences in the northwest district of the Portland. You go from a peaceful, urban hillside community to beautiful mountain streams and mossy trees. The hike culminates in a view from Pittock Mansion that overlooks downtown.
Urban hiking at its finest - definitely a must-do if you want to stretch your legs, but don't want the commitment of a long haul to the trail head.
