((don't mind me just going to YEET)) that fence had been put in place so no one else could easily fall. of course, a fence doesn't work very well if there's a person is sitting on it, legs facing the cliffside. they seemed to be balanced enough, and they were holding onto the fence but... that was still a very precarious position. especially for a human kid... ((@littleredsoul figured this was a decent lil' set up))

When Steven had spotted someone up near the top of the light house hill, at first he hadn’t thought much of it since a lot of people would go up there to see the view. However, when he noticed they were sitting on the very fence the Crystal Gems had made, that’s what spurred him into running towards the stranger and shouting, “ WAIT!! You can’t sit there, please get off the fence! ”

After all, he’d already had one friend fall off the cliff after claiming they wouldn’t, there’s no way he was taking a chance like that on someone who definitely wouldn’t survive that fall!

When the first bubble popped, she worried a moment that her plan had been foolhardy. Patches of green swirled across their hardlight forms, ending in protrusions on their shoulders or heads. Even all four of them together could not completely erase every trace of corruption, it seemed, and Blue looked anxiously from the newly formed gems to Steven. But where she thought to find disappointment, she saw only laughter, relief. A flick of her wrist made a wave through the pool that washed him closer.

“It worked,” she said, sinking deeper into the water beside him. “What will you have them do now…?”

“ Wheeee! ” The wave Blue had made to bring Steven closer had him raise his hands excitedly, his joy riding higher than it had in a long while at seeing all the gems being freed of their corrupted forms. He’d seen Pearl and Garnet happily crying and embracing each other, Amethyst consoling with Jasper, so many good things accomplished through all their hard work.

Being next to Blue he smiled widely up at her as she asked her question, shrugging his shoulders as he responded. “ I think it’d be good for them all to catch up together, they’ve spent so long not being able to talk or think for themselves, they... they really need this. ”

There’s a look of warm fondness as he glanced around at the laughing and hugging gems, before looking up at Blue with the brightest grin he’d had in a long while. “ Thanks so much Blue, for all your help. I know this would mean the world to mom, if she were here. ”

Her lips remained a thin, skeptical line. Yet she had other things to consider, like what a bear might be, and whether it would propose any significant danger to Steven. He already assured her that ‘this wasn’t his first rodeo’ ( ‘I thought we were ‘camping’?’ ), that he’d spent countless nights in the forest with the company of the crystal gems or other humans. Nothing would happen that they weren’t in some way prepared for, despite her ignorance of Earth’s wildlife – an ignorance he was eager to cure her of.

Blue slowly rose to her feet, scattering flocks of birds from the nearby branches. His enthusiasm was infectious, she couldn’t help but smile even as she picked her way through trees that scratched and tangled at her clothes and hair. If there were any bears nearby, they knew better than to approach; in fact, she’d be surprised if her thundering footsteps didn’t send any creature within a mile scrambling in the opposite direction. At such a height she could see the lake sparkling up ahead, nestled at the base of the mountains, but she said nothing to deprive Steven the subtle pride of presenting it to her once they finally broke free of the tree-line. 

“How lovely…”

Crystalline water, so clear she could see fish swimming past the shallows, lapped a shore of smooth, rounded rocks. Blue leaned down to dip her fingers into the waves and found it didn’t feel much like anything, though at times she had difficulties sensing temperatures that weren’t hot. “It’s not too cold, is it?”

“ Ta dah! Welcome to Clarity Lake! ”

Steven exclaimed proudly as the two emerged from the shore and he skipped over to stand on the rocky shoreline. Yep, just as pretty and glimmering as he remembered! With great excitement he watched as Blue Diamond tested the waters and was even smiling as she asked about the lake itself! Looks like he’d found something the two of them could enjoy together on this trip, he thought cheerily as he spotted a nearby dock, his grin widening at an idea.

“ Only one way to find out! ” He said while taking off his shirt, leaving his shorts on and darting off towards the wooden dock, catapulting himself off into the water with a happy shout. “ BON-ZAI! ”

There he goes into the water, making a splash as he dove into the chilly depths and spooked the nearby fish away. Its a few seconds of him swimming about before he pops his head out for a breath, waving at Blue from the distance he was at. “ It’s actually pretty good! A little cold, but not too bad, wanna come out here and see all the cool fish? ”

Okay so she might not be as crazy about the fish as he was, but from when he was swimming under the water there was still a ton of pretty stuff down there! The bottom of the lake had what looked like grass weaving about in the stillness of the water, no litter or sign of human pollution in sight.

He couldn’t understand how Steven could believe in humans and, to an extent, Chara. Everything he associated with them had been overwhelmingly negative for so long, so there was likely no chance at changing his opinions on them. They hadn’t showed a single shred of mercy or regret throughout the millions of timelines. So, why should Geno bother thinking about justifying their actions when all they did was cause suffering in the Underground repeatedly?

“Well, they have and still are causing me quite a bit of pain here, too. So, I guess that means we’re in the same boat,” he muttered as he met Steven’s gaze with a hand grasping his scarf. However, he gave a nod in agreement despite the stony expression on his face. “You’re right with that, at least. They’ve been terrorizing the Underground for far too long…”

“ Oh geez, I’m so sorry... ” Though he really shouldn’t be the one apologizing, he couldn’t help but feel the need to at the expression the monster had on his face. How long had this been going on for...? It really was always a shock how much impact one person’s actions could have like this, and they likely didn’t care at all about the consequences of what they were doing. Feeling upset but still wanting to help, one of the boy’s hands reaches up and grabs his other arm, looking at the skeleton with wide eyes as he went on.

“ Is there... maybe anyway I could try talking to them? Maybe I can get them to stop, figure out why they’re doing what they’re doing and convince them that this is wrong. I know you probably think that’s impossible, but I wanna give it a shot-”

He tended to have pretty good luck in resolving conflicts without too much fighting, even if there were a few occasions where he just was left with no other choice. But he wanted to help, and this was his way of trying this person’s rampage.

“Oh, Starlight, there you are.”  Said the massive figure, her arms stretched out in a familiar pose.  “I saw what happened at the Era Three ball, I must say that I’m very disappointed in you.  I thought a gem of your upbringing would know better than to fuse with a filthy organic lifeform.”

Well, all of his friends were poofed, Connie was locked up somewhere by the other diamonds, and he wasn’t really sure how he was going to get out of this situation, but... here was White Diamond, in front of him finally. And this time, he wasn’t going to let her drown him out again.

This time, the life of his friends were at stake. Especially Connie’s, as Whites words were very quick to anger him, enough to dare attempt shouting up at the looming gem matriarch.

“ Connie is not filthy, she’s way better than you! ALL of you! At least she actually cares about me, she was just trying to help me feel better at that sucky ball! ”

All the pent up frustrations that had been building over the last few days had finally reached Steven’s limits, as endlessly patient as he could be. Geez, no wonder his mom had been so desperate to leave for life on earth, if she had spent millennia living like this!

“ Where is she? Where are all my friends? ”

“ No, there’s a lot of things I don’t remember. I’m... not Pink, I’m Steven. I don’t have Pink’s memories, just her powers and gem. ” He said with a light sigh, he’d probably have to explain this a lot until the Diamonds actually started to believe him.

It seemed like that question had upset Blue a bit though, so he quickly tried to brush it off and go to another topic. It wouldn’t do any good to upset the diamond he honestly felt the most comfortable around-

“ If that’s a bad question, sorry, you-you don’t gotta answer it. I was just curious, it caught me off guard at first when I saw them. ”
