i never understood the whole reaction towards mental illness where someone says āitās all Ā in your headā i feel like that statement is just as redundant as telling someone with pulmonary edema that āthe fluid is all in your lungsā like yes. yeah thats exactly where it is get it out of thERe/???Ā
A new childrenās show called āBurka Avengerā premieresĀ in Pakistan next month. It features a female superhero in a fictional northern Pakistani town, and two regular villains meant to reflect the reality in Pakistan; a corrupt government official and an evil magician styled to look and feel like a Taliban commander. The show was created by Pakistani pop star Haroon Rashid.
From AP:
Our protagonist is a mild-mannered teacher with secret martial arts skills who uses a flowing black burka to hide her identity as she fights local thugs seeking to shut down the girlsā school where she works.
Sadly, itās a battle Pakistanis are all too familiar with in the real world.
The Taliban have blown up hundreds of schools and attacked activists in Pakistanās northwest because they oppose girlsā education. The militants sparked worldwide condemnation last fall when they shot 15-year-old schoolgirl activist Malala Yousafzai in the head in an unsuccessful attempt to kill her.
Action in the āBurka Avengerā cartoon series, which is scheduled to start running on Geo TV in early August, is much more lighthearted. The bungling bad guys evoke more laughter than fear and are no match for the Burka Avenger, undoubtedly the first South Asian ninja who wields books and pens as weapons.
It's so easy to let life drift by, surviving. Surfing the web instead of writing your book, Talking to whoever and ignoring real friends. It's easy to survive, but it's hard to thrive. Putting first things first--first people first Creating, and seeking, and searching, and striving Like climbing a mountain or building a masterpiece Our fears go to war with our faith And we wonder: who am I to take this leap? We worry and we fear, and we never call that friend, Never knowing that they, too, are alone Sitting by that phone, and working up courage As if to call a friend or create beauty Was to face a lion! Or to calm a hurricane! As if failure was a basilisk, a chimera, an unconquerable enemy. To become famous, to make millions, to go down in history-- Yes, perfection may be needed. But to make a friend? You are good enough, just as you are. And so am I.

when people attack trans* ppl for āmaking up wordsā like genderqueer and etc, makes me wonder where they think words actually come from. is it god? does god make the words? or perhaps some sort of mischievous river spirit
as a linguistics major I can confirm that it is in fact a mischievous river spirit
Strange women lying in rivers distributing words is no basis for a system of language.
I believe new words are typically crafted by comedians, gangsters, middle schoolers, and other highly certified professionals.

Day 10 - Best and worst trait of Twilight Sparkle?
- Her BEST trait is that she is reasonable⦠I mean she thinks stuff through and then she takes action and gets conclusions. She has tons of other good things about her but this is something that only she has.
- Her worst trait is her obsession. She is obsessed about being Celestiaās Student, about the Elements of harmony, about her tasksā¦Ā Ā
Basically, this is me. :)
Do you, like, have a folder on your computer full of adorable Fluttershy GIFs? Where do you find them all? I've never seen someone so effectively describe their entire life with animated GIFs.
I have a reaction gif folder, and just so happen to have a lot of Fluttershy ones. ;) I have gotten all of them from tumblr so far, but Iāve been thinking about making some of my own, too, for when I canāt find the one I want.
Itās just that my reactions to things in real life and Fluttershyās reactions to things in the show are so identical. When I say I am the same as her, Iām not just saying Iām a big fan or sheās my favorite pony or whatever. IĀ am that personality.
So Fluttershy gifs work well for me.
Thanks for noticing. ;)
So true! I watched your testimony on your missionary blog. It was so sweet and innocent and sincere, and I had to wear earphones with my computer at max volume in order to hear you. ;)
Today I got asked to model for a few photography classes because and I quote
However hard we try to find new models, they always turn out the same. All sultry with skimpy outfits. Weāve had enough Christina Aguileras. I want to have a model more like Audrey Hepburn than Christina Aguilera. Innocence and shyness and poise.
And I was flattered but also all I could think of was
you're a massive cunt. you come across all "oh what's a girl to do?! i'm so shy and ugh, i'm not pretty...but i actually got asked to model" what the fuck ever. and don't go thinking i'm jealous, i just hate triflin' bitches stuck on themselves.
Iām heartbroken, anon. Heartbroken.
ā
But hereās my real answer.
Iām a normal 19-year-old girl who feels pretty sometimes and ugly other times.
Mostly I feel pretty when Iām wearing makeup, because my face is covered in dark red acne and acne scars.Ā I have a nice figure but itās completely untoned and squishy. I feel insecure about that sometimes, but mostly I just think about other things because there are more important things to be than thin or clear-skinned.
Being asked to model isnāt a big deal. It doesnāt mean Iām shockingly gorgeous, because thatās not why she asked me to do it. She asked me to model because I donāt sexualize myself. Iām just excited that someone still thinks that there is a place for virtuous women in the modeling world.
So to people who think that makes me āstuck on myselfā or other words that I donāt believe in repeating, I say:
Will I ever be worthy?

You know, you might be surprised how willing the Lord is to forgive you, when you feel you're not right with him. All the great forgiveness stories--Enos, Alma the Younger, Saul/Paul, the Lamanite converts of Ammon, and later Nephi and Lehi... they have something in common. Every single one of them was forgiven before they had developed righteous habits, a righteous lifestyle, and proven their worthiness to their church leaders.
Every single one of them prayed, with faith, for Jesus' forgiveness. Every single one asked God, in Jesus' name, for the atonement to take their sins away. And every single one was changed.
The change of heart and behavior didn't come all at once. For King Lamoni, it took a few days of being knocked out. :) Alma the Younger said he had to keep fasting and praying and learning for "many days" to strengthen his testimony, after that initial forgiveness.
But that moment, that moment of forgiveness, was when they knew they were right with God again. They could admit their past sins without guilt, but with gratitude that Jesus could change their hearts and minds. They weren't perfect, but they were clean. And they were happy!
I've found that embracing that moment of forgiveness gives you the strength to continue the repentance process--thanking God for it, rejoicing in his love, and continuing to obey him out of newfound love and joy. Church leaders want to see you confess your sin and stop doing it, and these outward signs come naturally as you embrace the miracle of forgiveness.
If anyone gets frustrated at this General Conference because the speakers spend so much time praising and building up women, just think to yourself, āOh, theyāre saying that especially for Camille so that she can feel good about her identity as a woman and have a few minutes not feeling used and defiled and objectified by society.ā And then itāll roll off your back and Iāll get the encouragement I need, winā/win.
Seriously though, I think they do it to counteract theĀ incredibleĀ attack womanhood is under these days. Some of us need to be reassured that we are more than sex appeal, some of us need to be reassured that we are not discardable. If youāre not one of those people, then hats off to you, but I sure am.
I specifically pray that they will talk about the importance and special roles of women. We have dozens of revelations written especially for men, but only one written especially for a woman. We need to exercise our faith through prayer, or we may never get that encouragement and guidance (see D&C 25:9).

This is what I imagine judgment day being like--everyone who was ever a jerk apologizing profusely. Way to go, Camille, and thanks for sharing. :)
I think it's funny when we describe repentance in a way that doesn't acknowledge this principle. I mean, repentance doesn't assume that we're perfect from the get-go. It's a process that we go through with God, and he's willing to forgive us before we've proven beyond doubt that we'll never sin again.
In the scriptures, a sincere apology to God was usually enough for initial forgiveness, which was followed by "retaining a remission of your sins from day to day" (Mosiah 4:26).

I will never ever, post my negative opinions about so grand and wonderful a show as ATLA or LOK.
Why?
Because somewhere out there is some poor chap who has NEVER been graced with seeing Aang learn the elements, Zukoās struggle to regain his honor, Katara bringing hope to a despairing world, or even the plucky headstrong Korra fighting against all odds. This curious soul might value my opinion enough to ignore this magnificent show because of _______.
