You couldn’t say I love you,
and I forgave you.
You cheated on me,
and I forgave you.
You didn’t want to have sex,
and I forgave you.
You didn’t want to meet my family,
and I forgave you.
You didn’t want to see my friends,
and I forgave you.
You treated me like someone you didn’t like,
and I forgave you.
You couldn’t give me what I wanted,
and I forgave you.
When I shouldn’t have.
That was my fault.
I settled at every turn because I loved you,
and I wanted you to be right for me.
I shouldn’t have forgiven you because I shouldn’t
have had to forgive you for who you were.
With the right person you wouldn’t have had to
apologize.
I wanted us to fit, so I forfeited myself.
I pushed us into something,
that never could have worked.
And now I forgive myself,
for not standing up for myself,
or demanding what I deserved,
or being honest about my needs.
Now I am alone and I couldn’t be more happy.
Because I can actually be myself,
And want things without apologies.
