By the morning sunlight, By the stillness of the night, Your Lord has neither abandoned you nor is He displeased with you. The Hereafter shall certainly be better for you than this life. Soon, your Nurturing Lord shall give you such that you will certainly be satisfied. Did He not find you orphaned, and sheltered you? Did He not find you lost, and guided you? Did He not find you in need, and enriched you?

How many years have gone by, and how many more will it take for the soul to come back and rectify itself? Imagine your life as an hour-glass, only one with no visible knowledge of when the sand will run out. It could be today, or it could be in a year. One thing is certain, the grave will be an abode of no return. There is no trial period, nor sample for this. When it happens, it happens. There is no existence after death, so your time for repentance is done. The world moves on, someone will take your role in the job you worked in, the clothes you wore, the car you drove, and most of the people who knew you will forget about you and move on with their lives after a couple of days.

Hassan al-Basri رَحِمَهُ ٱللَّٰهُ says death has exposed the reality of this worldly life, so it left no room for the intelligent person to find pleasure in it.
