Looking over at all the food, she knew it must’ve been a special thing for her mother to be inviting this man, aka her boyfriend, over for dinner. Yes, Peaches was nervous because this was like one of the first men in her life who could possibly become a father figure in the future. With something casual on, she was sure to be her kindest tonight at dinner. “So when is this mystery man arriving?”

I’m sure if my mother and father’s last names were Kent, they’d be overjoyed.” He couldn’t help but joke. Hell, Superman was even his own favorite superhero, even since he was a kid. “Yeah, I know a lot about your mother, Jesse never shuts up about her. She’s a very lucky woman and he’s a very lucky guy.” He couldn’t help but joke. He loved how happy his friend was and it overjoyed him to hear him gush about the woman. “It’s not a problem, Peaches.” He gave a nod before helping the boy carefully pack up all his things. “You two have a great rest of the day!”

“Thank you. We’re very unique.” She chuckled softly as she shook her head. Of course Peaches was just being silly. “Well Clark, you are a handsome guy, so if they ever did a superman play, i’m sure you could play him.” She smiled softly before hugging her nephew. “Yeah, i’m just nervous to meet Jesse. Is he really nice?” She was just concerned for her mama and wanted Honey to be as happy as she could be. “You too, Clark.”

“Yeah, it’s kind of like that.” He laughed, rubbing the back of his neck. why was he getting so awkward? “Mr. Davis. You must be Miss Peach, correct?” He held a hand out to her. “Apple, yeah. He’s actually just finishing his work in the common’s room. Follow me.” He hopped off the desk before going to get his student. “Hey buddy! How’s your work coming along?”

“Kinda cool.” She commented before giggling. With her hand shaking his, she added, “Peaches. My mama is Honey. It’s nice to get out of the house cause all she talks about is her job and well....her new man.” Peaches laughed a bit harder now. “Thank you, Mr.Davis.” Peaches followed before waving at her nephew.

“It’s cool. Like sometimes I rant about my teachers to the other students.” She shrugged. “Well then yeah, you’re his teacher. Nice to meet you, Mr.?” She trailed off. “His name is Apple. Not like the computer, but like the fruit.”

“I swear to god, I have never had a more stressful parent teacher conference than the one I had today. One of my student’s moms came by yelling and raising hell because her perfect child had a detention slip because he was wrestling with one of my other students… People in college when I was training to be a teacher always taught me to be careful of the students and to make sure I keep an eye on them at all times. They were so wrong… It’s the parents…”

“Look, I told you the Steve Buscemi thing was because I was drunk. And it was one time!” Honey tried to defend herself but found herself laughing right along with the girl. “Ugh, he’s actually perfect.” Honey cried out as she pulled up her photo app to find a few of the more… appropriate pictures of Jesse that she had and showed the screen to her daughter once she found a good one. “Isn’t he just beautiful. And he’s so sweet, and he smells so good.” She said, practically drooling over her man, but who could blame her? It was the first partner she had in a long, long time, she was eating it up and enjoying every second she had to brag about said relationship. “Then that’s what we’ll do. I just stocked up on ice cream so you’re actually in real luck.” she teased. “I’ll turn mine off too, I shouldn’t be on call tonight and if I am they have my home phone.” That’s right, Honey was old school and still had a landline. But it was only because most of the time, she needed it so she could call her phone when it was playing hide-n-seek. 

“Mmhmm...I haven’t forgotten mama. One time or not i’m pretty sure the drunk you just spilled the hottest tea.” She was joking and teasing with her mother, but only because it was fun when they got to joke around like this. As Honey spoke about this man she was seeing, all Peaches could do was playfully shake her head and giggle. Though, when she saw the pictures, she knew her mother wasn’t exaggerating and that yes, this man was in fact one of the most gorgeous she’d ever seen. “Wow mama, you really got a pretty guy. I gotta give him the tough talk though. If he ever hurts you I will have to kick his pretty ass.” She laughed harder now. The way her mother spoke and drooled over this man was pretty new to see, but she was liking it. Plus, if this guy treated her mom right, then of course she’d be all for it. All this was going to take was a small adjustment and that would be that. “I’m so happy for you and when I meet him I think i’ll be very happy.” After all her mother seemed to be glowing like never before and Peaches was so grateful. “You know me so well, mama. We’re gonna have a great mom and daughter time.” She added softly before grinning wider. “Perfect. Now come on, let’s get outta here.” She began to run to the car.

“How about over dinner Wednesday? I work tomorrow night, and tonight is gonna be just us girls, alright?” Honey commented and then leaned in to kiss the middle of her daughter’s forehead. “Besides, you just broke up with what’s her name, you don’t need me rubbing my relationship in your face,” Honey said and then made her way into the kitchen to grab her phone. “So where do you wanna eat? Your choice. Or if you want, we can just have the food brought here and we can have some wine and do our own nails and watch shit television.” She then made her way back into the living room where she had left Peaches. “Anything you wanna do, baby.” And Honey meant that. She wanted Peaches to see that even with a man in her life, her daughter was still her number one priority. No one or nothing could come between the love she had for her. 

“Wednesday definitely works for me.” It’s not like Peaches had any plans anymore. The girl was totally free, besides studies now which she was kinda grateful for because the grades always had to be up, just like her guard. “You’re very thoughtful, but you’re excited and right now I want you to tell me more about him..like is he really that pretty, or are you just being nice? Because you’ve had some questionable television crushes.” She joked around with her mother and laughed hard. “Then i’d like to stay in tonight. Ice cream and movies. I’m gonna turn off my phone and get away from friends and all that...for the night.” She murmured.

It almost broke Honey’s heart hearing Peaches say such a thing, like Honey could actually choose a man over her own daughter. “Girl, if you think any man is gonna come between you and me you’ve lost your mind.” Honey said and moved to cup her daughter’s face in her hands, her brown eyes darting along her beautiful face. “No man is gonna break us up, you hear me? You come to me any time you want, you can come crash here any time you want. I promise you, if I thought he was bad I wouldn’t even think twice about being around him. Can you just give him a chance before you judge him and finalize your decision on not wanting me with him?”

Nodding her head, she felt herself feel a bit better about the whole situation. Her mom was her best friend in the world. Ever since Peaches could remember, she always had her mom and she was always so close to her mother and she always feared of someone getting in between them, but with this reassurance, she was able to feel a bit relaxed about the situation, especially feeling her mother cup her face. “I hear you, mama. Y-yeah, i’ll give him a chance and I promise to be on my best behavior. How about over dinner dinner tonight? Or whenever you can?” She asked, looking at her mom before smiling softly. She was willing to give him a chance for her mom and Honey did look really happy lately.

Honey was confused when her daughter looked at her the way she did. And with the answer she got, Honey was even more confused. “What do you mean no?” she asked, her voice a little worried because she had no clue what was going through Peaches’ head. Of course, it was sort of a big change, Honey had to take that into consideration since Peaches had never seen her mother with a man or a woman ever. But still, what was she going to do if her own daughter didn’t approve of her relationship with Jesse?

She then shook her head, ready to spill it to her mother. “Because mama...it’s you and me in our family. Someone can’t just come in and take you from me. What if...if I need advice, or if I need a place to crash one night? I don’t know if I want you with this guy and I know it’s selfish, but it’s scary to me. I-I never been through anything like this.” It was a very big change for Peaches and she didn’t want to upset her mom.

“There is no groom, but.” Honey trailed off and smiled a bit. “I am seeing someone, a new anchor. He’s really sweet, and gorgeous!” Honey said and sighed contently a little. She hadn’t dated since Peaches was a little baby, after that she just did’t for her daughter’s sake. “They do, but you don’t deserve that. I mean no one deserves to be cheated on, but you no, you just don’t do that.” she said and sighed. “I bet the bitch wasn’t even cute.” she shook her head. “Hey, but since you can’t use her company as an excuse to get away from me, why don’t we go get some medi pedis and facials, catch dinner or somethin’.”

But? It had Peaches a bit confused because she thought her mother would never really date again. This had to be some kind of joke; at least Peaches thought it was a joke until her mother really seemed to tell her about this guy. She gave her mother a blank stare for a moment before adding, “Mom..no.” Wow, did she just say that? Peaches felt hurt though because she thought they were just going to be them and not really any more guys or girls around her mom. “Yeah, I-I know.” She frowned, thinking back on her ex girlfriend now. “I’d like that, but is your news anchor coming?”

“And I still didn’t need you looking at me like it was your business. Headphones in or not, I am not some thing to look at and watch my problems unfold.” She gave him a look. “Don’t fucking talk to me like that. I’m not telling you anyway. I don’t even think I know you.”
