have you considered that antisemitism isn’t required to advocate for palestinians and that it is in fact an active choice to dilute that activism with antisemitism (antisemitism that actively endangers and ends jewish lives)?
least favorite genre of post on here has gotta be "having mental illness doesn't excuse bad behavior" from people with depression/anxiety, who mistakenly believe everyone with psychosis is simply suffering from distorted thinking like they are. i have the kind of bipolar that causes psychosis under the wrong conditions and it is radically different from the distorted thinking i have when manic or depressed. "distorted thinking" is "there's nothing wrong with stealing those groceries from a stranger's car, they won't catch you and you need it more than them". "psychosis" is "you're not stealing those groceries in that stranger's car, they belong to you and those people are just holding them". (never mind that "i haven't eaten in days and they can afford a car" morally complicates either situation for a moment.)
i have been in a state where i earnestly believed things that were radically untrue and they lead me to cause harm to others. these were not minor distortions in an otherwise accurate picture of the world, they were fundamentally incorrect pictures of the world. some of them were fairly innocuous and are largely water under the bridge. some of them were serious and i still feel shame about them now. but i have also seen people hounded to the ends of the earth over shit they did in a delusional state which would be utterly out of character while compos mentis and it feels cosmically unfair.
I would like to reiterate that among the advocates of the “mental illness does not excuse bad behaviour” line is the legislature of the state of California

Mental illness can and does often mitigate responsibility, excuse behaviour, and morally exempt you from “accountability” (social debt). You can’t voice agreement with the op and then add, “Well but of course this doesn’t make psychosis an excuse.” Yea, if you were delusional to the point you had no fucking clue what you were doing then it damn well does, that is the entire point

As a Jewish person who suffers from bipolar disorder, I have no sympathy for Kanye West. Bipolar disorder turned me into an apathetic, irresponsible person, sure, but it never turned me into a fucking Nazi. There is no manic episode that could make me shout racist slurs, or spew such vile things. When I was manic, I turned into a promiscuous alcoholic, not a bigot. Turning into a Nazi isn't in the DSM5, I can assure you.
Kanye West has more followers on Twitter than there are Jews worldwide. He is one of the most famous people on earth. The fact he can go on an antisemitic rampage without consequences is terrifying. If you're not a Jew, your Jewish friends need your allyship more than ever right now.

Okay, but
Why in hell are there so many people that continuously claim that El needs to be single in order to be independent and become the person she's meant to be? Single and independent are not synonyms. Independent does not mean alone. That's not how it works. They're not interchangeable. You don't need one in order to have the other.
No matter who you do and don't ship, my point still stands. There's so many people that have said it. And among those people, there's so many that claim she needs to be single in order to be herself, to be independent, and use that as their excuse for thinking El and Mike need to breakup, but then go and say that Mike and Will can get together afterwards. Or that El and Max can get together afterwards. If someone needs to be single in order to be independent, does that make everyone else who is in a relationship dependent? Not their own person? Hell no.
And I've also seen so many people claim that El takes after Mike. That Mike is always pushing his likes and interests on habits onto El. That he doesn't let her be her own person and that's what makes their relationship so "bad". That's what makes them have so many issues. Especially in season 3. But no, it's the opposite. They had so many issues in season 3 because El is independent. Because they are two different people. If El wasn't her own independent person, she wouldn't of gone to Max. She wouldn't of followed Max's lead and broken up with Mike. She wouldn't of gone on this whole journey of discovering new parts of herself and as well as exploring all of her relationships with people and then also returning to her relationship with Mike of her own free will and choice if she was not an independent person. If El was solely dependent on Mike and her personality and existence was based on Mike's specifically without her making any of her own choices, she would never have broken up with him in the first place. And in season 4, she wouldn't of argued with him so much.
Mike and El have their issues because they are both 2 different, very independent people who are also both very much teenagers and very much human. But everytime they've had an issue, they've worked through it, just like two people who are in a relationship and want to stay in that relationship do. Some people say that at the end of season 4, they're at their weakest point in their relationship. But no, it's the opposite, they're actually at their strongest. Why would it show them cuddled up together in the hospital while visiting Max if they were still having issues? It's been made plenty clear that if El is mad at Mike, she doesn't want to be around him, so she would definitely not be leaning against his shoulder and holding onto him if she was still upset with him, no matter what was going on around them at the time.
So I've said it before, I'm saying it now, and I will continue to say it in the future. Mike and El are both independent people, even while together. El does not need to breakup with Mike in order to be her own person or to be independent. That is not how it works. Mike and El can both be their own person while also being together. They both are their own person while being together. Just because that person isn't who you personally want them to be, doesn't mean that they aren't their own person or that they need to change some part of them or their life in order for things to be "solved". And El especially does not have to have some "I don't need a man" mentality and lifestyle in order to be her own, usual, badass and awesome self. She's already badass and independent and awesome and incredible and intelligent and unique whether she's in a relationship with Mike or not. Her relationship status does not decide her personality and character and it never has and it never will.
Really not a fan that "lost focus and had a consensual workplace relationship" is being memed because so many people don't seem to realize it's in reference to a wildly inappropriate boss-employee relationship and not, like, two people who got overly distracted by their relationship.
Reframing it this way is exactly what Ned wants. He wants you to think it's a branding problem and not a Title VII issue. He wants you to ignore the power dynamics. He's trying to salvage his reputation and mocking his deliberate word choices for the wrong reason just helps him.

Lucas Sinclair / Caleb Mclaughlin appreciation post!
Lucas is one of my favorite characters.
He had amazing development with El, a beautiful relationship with Max, and a close and special friendship with Mike, Dustin and Will.
Caleb's acting is magnificent and way underrated!

It makes me so sad to hear that fans didn't like Lucas and still continue to not appreciate him. And it’s not an exaggeration to say the fandom is racially motivated. They 100% are.
Lucas, Erica, and Argyle are amazing characters and most fans don't like them for disgusting reasons.
Just a PSA, desecrating a Torah is not the same as burning a Bible.
Torahs are not mass produced, and cannot be mass produced due to how specific and strict the rules are for construction. They have to be handmade in a very specific process with specific materials (the scroll must be made of calf skin instead of paper, for example) A rabbi can reasonably spend about a year making a single torah. It must be written by hand in ink, and if a mistake is made on a page, the page must be thrown out and started from scratch. Because of this, torahs are often extremely expensive and delicate, and we have rules for how they are to be held and interacted with so as not to damage them. One of the most important rules is that you cannot touch the parchment of the scroll with your fingers, you have to use a pointer called a yad. This rule is for religious reasons, but also practical ones because the oils on your hands can damage the parchment very easily if touched regularly. That is how fragile these objects are.
In addition, if one is damaged, it is no longer considered kosher and must be replaced. There is obviously a spiritual reason for not wanting a torah to be harmed, but it’s also because they are extremely expensive, often very old heirlooms or artifacts, and handmade art pieces. Desecrating a torah is not just a symbolic gesture of disrespect to Judaism, it is destroying an expensive, old, and culturally significant art piece.
The Christian equivalent would be more along the lines of smashing stained glass windows in a historic church. Bible burnings as a form of protest are almost always done with copies you can buy for $15 at Barnes and noble. It is certainly meant to be disrespectful to the Christian faith, but it is not the same in terms of level of harm caused.
Bible burning vs torah desecration is a comparison made in bad faith I see occasionally to be like “why is antisemitism bad but being mean to Christians is fine?” But I’ve met a lot of well meaning gentiles who don’t fully know the cultural context or significance of the Torah and genuinely don’t understand the gravity of desecrating one.
I think a lot of leftists don't understand that:
a. the revolution is not going to be a bloody battle because pretty much every communist revolution like that has led to us all getting murdered by the state and the state using it as an excuse to install fascism as quickly as possible. most of us softie leftists don't even own guns and have never fired one. the US has the highest military spending of any country ever. we lose if we go to war.
b. while voting is never going to create the world we want it can slow the tide of fascism to give us time to work on the actual revolution. we need to work within the system somewhat, even if it can't fix the problem outright.
c. the revolution is already happening. it is happening in an underground way. not as in people secretly planning military plays cause again we lose in that scenario. but in order to properly get rid of the system of capitalism we need to create a system that runs counter to it. basically building the alternative without permission from the state.
d. everyone has their own unique jobs in the revolution. educators and propagandists, protestors which keep the cops busy and keep attention on issues, people building labor and renters unions, people making cop monitoring networks, people providing shelter and food to those in need, people protecting their friends and creating mutual aid networks, people running underground medical networks or whatever else is in their power. hell even people openly living as their truest selves is revolutionary, the fight against capitalism is the choice to do whatever is in your power to help someone you know who is in need. this is the revolution.
yes, violence is called for in many instances and we should be ready to fight back but genuinely stop expecting for someone else to start a war and do something to help someone. you want a community? start building. talk to your neighbors and start a renters union or something. I keep seeing leftists lament that they can't do everything but babe no one can but you can still do SOMETHING and it will help. even if that something is just letting yourself be helped for now so you can help someone else later.
also learn conflict resolution I swear to god so many communities fall apart because they don't know how to handle differences. teach yourself to not react before you think and allow yourself to be humble even when you are right.

if they want to refer to themself as another term, they are fully allowed to do that, but for everyone else, the correct term is jew or jewish. not convert, not ger/giyoret/gerim. jew. jewish.

i wrapped tefillin for the first time yesterday and it was a magical experience. my rabbi offered to let folks borrow one of the pairs he has to explore our relationship with them, and i think i might. the thing that i think draws me to tefillin is that it’s a mitzvah that isn’t based in logic, it’s based in mysticism, and that’s a place we rarely get to go in the modern world. for those of us who live modern lives, we’re often looked down on (by both non jews and other jews) for indulging in our own mysticism because for some reason we have this idea that mysticism and science cannot coexist. but they can, and they should.
Sooo much of the Kabbalat Shabbat service is rooted in mysticism and because it’s become mainstream we totally forget.
