This is actually a phrase from the Quran from Surah An-Nahl which is basically a chapter titled “The bees”. I’ll post the exact phrases along with a little explanation because I have always found this one very fascinating! The exact Aayas are:
{وَأَوۡحَىٰ رَبُّكَ إِلَى ٱلنَّحۡلِ أَنِ ٱتَّخِذِي مِنَ ٱلۡجِبَالِ بُيُوتٗا وَمِنَ ٱلشَّجَرِ وَمِمَّا يَعۡرِشُونَ}
68. And your Lord inspired the bees, saying: “Take you habitations in the mountains and in the trees and in what they erect.
{ثُمَّ كُلِي مِن كُلِّ ٱلثَّمَرَٰتِ فَٱسۡلُكِي سُبُلَ رَبِّكِ ذُلُلٗاۚ يَخۡرُجُ مِنۢ بُطُونِهَا شَرَابٞ مُّخۡتَلِفٌ أَلۡوَٰنُهُۥ فِيهِ شِفَآءٞ لِّلنَّاسِۚ إِنَّ فِي ذَٰلِكَ لَأٓيَةٗ لِّقَوۡمٖ يَتَفَكَّرُونَ}
69. “Then, eat of all fruits, and follow the ways of your Lord made easy (for you).” There comes forth from their bellies, a drink of varying colour wherein is healing for men. Verily, in this is indeed a sign for people who think.
The Quran highlights the honeybee as a profound sign of divine design by dedicating a whole chapter to them, while yes bees have always been important to humans through the ages, Islam was more focused on how they’re built in these verses that describe the bee’s complex behaviors such as building hives and gathering nectar using precise feminine verbs, mentioning the anatomical production of honey, and confirming its medicinal, healing properties.
Modern scientific discoveries align remarkably well with these Quranic descriptions:
The Arabic text uses feminine commands like اِتَّخِذِي (take/make) and كُلِي(eat). Science now confirms that all foraging, hive-building, and honey production are carried out entirely by female worker bees, a fact unknown 1,400 years ago.
The Quran describes the honey as emerging from their “bellies” (plural form بُطُونِهَا). Entomologists confirm that bees have a specialized honey stomach (the crop) separate from their digestive stomach, where nectar is collected and transformed before being regurgitated.
That’s why the phrase ends with “for people who think” because Islam has always encouraged humans to get in touch with nature and pay attention to the tiniest details in their surroundings. Once you start thinking and realizing that everything is existing in perfect harmony and working like clockwork you can’t deny the existence of the creator behind such precise coexistence.
