The Sanderson Sisters

So to kick off Halloween I decided to draw the Sanderson sisters from Hocus Pocus. And the first sister to be completed was Mary. I won't lie, drawing and coloring her was difficult! Because there's no really good screenshot of her outfit. I had to go through several fuzzy screenshots just to get a good idea of how her costume should look like. I remember watching Hocus Pocus when I was a kid and when I rewatch it over and over, I realize just how much of a kiss a** Mary was to Winifred. She obeys Winifred's ever command, always tried to comfort her and over kiss her sister's butt. However, I like how she could smell children out like that's her special power. and then she had to ride on a vacuum cleaner which I thought was funny.

  So I may be wrong, but I believe, the youngest is Sarah, then come to Mary and finally comes Winifred. Maybe I should have drawn them in age order. lol anyways, so in my opinion, Sarah was funny, nerdy and was the Hocus Pocus equivalent of Helda from Sabrina the teenage witch. I never found this girl threatening. Like Mary was creepy because she could smell children like a bloodhound, and Winifred was insane and cruel. Sarah always acted like she was just enjoying everything like nothing bugged this chick. Does that make her simple? maybe. So her special power is that she has this siren voice and could sing children to follow her. Her song "Come Little Children" is very haunting...

The problem with Winnifred Sanderson is that she is played by Bette Midler.  Now what this means is that I don't think Midler is a bad actress. In reality, she is pretty damn good. She is an even better singer. In fact, what made this movie work for me was her singing "I put a spell on you". The problem is when I see Winifred, I don't see a separate character I just see Bette Midler. It's like Kathy Najimy and Sarah Parker are playing characters because I hardly see their other movies. However I've seen a lot of Bette Midler's movies (Beaches, The Rose, The First Wives Club, etc) so whenever I see Hocus Pocus, I can't take Winnifred's character seriously cuz I keep saying to myself, "it's Bette Midler why should I be scared of her?" Anywho, so yay lots of green here. If the costume is somewhat inaccurate I'm sorry, but it was EXTREMELY difficult for me to draw ALL of the Sanderson sisters costumes. I had to rely on different, sometimes pixelated, and even cosplay photos to get a good idea on how their outfits look like.

Awesome Kiki Work!

I decided to start off with a wonderful film that I enjoyed so much as a kid. I watch it still about a hundred times a year and it still has that wonderful magic from the first time I have seen it. I do love Kiki she is an amazing character because she breaks the stereotypes of witches and at the same time, she is still a young girl who was dealing with issues about self-image, her self-esteem and her abilities as a witch. I enjoyed Jiji and love Phil Hartman's voice which I think fit the character of Jiji a lot! And yes I do enjoy the other wonderful films of Studio Ghibli but the one that got to my heart first was Kiki's Delivery Service. I know for sure this isn't the last time I'll draw her XD P.S yes I know Kiki's hair isn't purple. Lol I didn't have any brown markers at the time XD 

So once back when I posted my first Kiki's delivery service pic that I would be considering making another Kiki picture in the future. well, it finally happens! Initially, I wanted to destroy this pic because I thought the blue colors were too dark. I add black coloring to the blue coloring because I wanted that very dark night effect to be happening. However thanks to some white ink and tone adjustments on the computer it seems to be a success. I actually like this Kiki pic over my first one. (and I finally got Kiki's hair right! first, it was dark purple now its a dark brown color!) So yes I've noticed I've been paying a lot of attention to Kiki's and not to other Studio Ghibli films so someday there will be a Ponyo or Princess Mononoke pic up soon. I definitely need to make more natural poses rather then poster poses lol

Jack and Sally

I have plenty of friends who absolutely love "The Nightmare Before Christmas". They will collect TNBC merchandise, quote from the movie and memorize the songs. Hell, even my boyfriend is a fanatic about it. soooooo....what about me? Yes@! Of course I love this movie! While I don't collect merchandise, I still have a ritual of watching it every Halloween and Christmas! and I love hearing the songs while I do homework. (my favorite song is Sally's Song and Jack's Lament) Actually I'm hearing Amy Lee's version of Sally's Song while I type this! This movie has been a part of my childhood and I remember enjoying it. I always saw it as story of wanting to try something new and breaking out of people's stereotype visions of you. Drawing these two was tricky because they are extremely skinny! lol XD but I think I did good with their figures. Maybe I should have put bats or crows on the trees but oh well but I did put Oogie Boogi in the moon! (love his song btw) Anywho these two are soo cute together, I knew I had to draw them!

The Blue Girls Club

It occurs to me a few years back that there are plenty of characters with ice-based powers. and plenty of characters who are in constant blue. Especially in anime. It's all understandable since blue is a popular color. lol I know in Sailor Moon alone there are about 4 villains who have ice powers and wears blue. So for these reasons one day I drew a picture with Sailor Mercury, Berthier/Beruche (An SM villain with ice powers) and Elsa from Frozen cuz I wonder how fun it would be for all these girls to meet. I wanted Sailor Mercury to wonder whether or not to be friends with these two chicks. lol It's a fun world's collide pic with nothing but blue people. Yes, I could have added Palla-Palla, Viluy and Aluminium Siren but I wasn't thinking about them when I was sketching the drawing. Maybe I'll draw them eventually. lol Maybe I should add the blue power ranger! lol I'm glad on the snowflake, it's hand drawn since I don't have any snowflake stencils. Ok so my blue period is over for now. I need to work on my other colors now.

She was the original and first Disney princess. When Walt Disney propose the idea of a full length animated movie, he was laughed at. Yet when the movie premiered it was animation history and it changed how we view fairy tales forever. It made Walt rich and became the foundation of his movie empire. Oh yes, lots of people owe this sweet princess lots of credit. And even I have a special place for her in my heart. I'm pretty sure she was my first movie to ever see. I was 2 years old when I dress up as her for one long ago Halloween. I even had a movie poster on my childhood room wall. Even with all the speculation on whether she's a good role model for the modern girl, she is an important character in pop culture. Yes, she is too flawless (so she's only number 9 on my list). She has the perfect look, voice and she makes friends with anyone. Seriously she's the ultimate poster girl of our image for the princess. Her role is very basic. She's a girl who dreams, falls in love with the first prince she sees, becomes a mother figure to the seven dwarfs and has this Betty Boop-inspired cutie voice. And that's it. There is nothing else to her. But at least she has plenty of lines before she bites the apple and goes into a coma. And I won't lie, I do love the music! I really do love the "Someday My Prince will Come" song. It's beautiful damn it! If there was one complaint I really have about Snow White, it is her dress. It's super awkward in my opinion. Having all three primary colors is too jarring. But I guess it's colorful, so it makes her more eye-catching. And yes I know she also has a cape but I forgot, so oh well. I decided to draw her in the scary forest (because who could forget that scene!?) I also envision her with a bunch of apples. I don't know why. It just was an idea I wanted to run with. A powerhouse princess in my opinion.

Indeed it is the sweetest story ever told, and most likely the oldest story ever told. Chances are every generation of kids knew Cinderella thanks to Walt Disney's version. The blue-eyed blonde girl with the heart of gold, who makes friends with the mice and birds. She told us that a "dream is a wish your heart makes." The voice actress for Cinderella is very good. She just always sounds so calm. I actually found this pose from a Cinderella cosplayer online. I was trying to come up with an idea of what Cinderella should be doing and this position of her getting the tea ready while her evil stepfamily rings those bells look so good. I added the royal castle in the background using white ink to give this whimsical dreamy look. I actually prefer Cinderella's maids dress look compare to her ball gown just because this look, at least for me, is the best representation of a fairy tale done right. Disney got his inspiration from Charles Perrault's version and while there were some tweaks done to make the story a bit shorter, the movie did a damn good job showcasing the spirit of the tale. The only other Cinderella movie adaptation that did an even better job was Ever After starring Drew Barrymore. While Cinderella is not my utmost favorite Disney princess (she's still too flawless in my taste but she has a personality thank god. Unlike Aurora) the movie is among my faves. The music is amazing, the songs are spot on, the art is absolutely beautiful and just love the characters.   so that's all I got to say about Cindy

Continuing on my list is that singing damsel who snoozes, Aurora from Sleeping Beauty. Now, this is the case where I absolutely LOVED the villain more than the princess. In my opinion, the movie wasn't about Aurora, It was about Maleficient and the fairies. Heck Maleficient has more screen time than Aurora does! Heck! the fairies, Flora, Fauna and Merryweather have more lines and screen time than Aurora! When we do get to see Aurora, most of the time she is singing. And while she sings wonderfully and probably has the best voice of all the princesses, that's all she does is sing. She sings about meeting the man of her dreams and when Prince Phillip arrives she sings about loving him too. Who needs a personality? She's beautiful and she sings, and then goes to sleep...and that's it! That's why she's not my ultimate favorite. Heck, the only reason I have her on this list is that her character design is gorgeous! Whether she's in the pink or blue dress, when I read the original story of Sleeping Beauty, her design is exactly how I thought she would look. I decided to draw her at that moment when she touches the spindle because for me at least it was such a hair-raising moment! Gave me a good chance to practice on glowing effects with watercolors. Annnnnnd if you are adamant about seeing her pink dress version, I'll draw her again someday. lol

Just to let everyone know now, I LOVE her name! Its soo creative since she's from a candy game and her name is spin of "vanilla" and "Penelope"! Omg i love when words are combined to make new names! Now I know she is voiced by Sarah Silverman and pretty much designed to look somewhat like she and I are ok with that. I find Vanellope's character design quite refreshing. I like how her hair is a natural black rather than the candy color hairs of the other girls in Sugar Rush. Her clothes are not pop colors but natural colors yet you could tell she came from this world like her candy cane stripe leggings, peanut buttercup wrapper skirts (so cute!) and licorice tying back her hair. I also love how she has pieces of candy stuck in her hair!. So I put Vanellope pretty low on the list because....well why did she have to be a princess? I mean its no huge deal for her to turn out to be a princess but why not a queen? After all, if King Candy got to crown himself king yet be the fake ruler why isn't the real ruler a queen herself? I never got why Disney is so anti powerful women. There is no real reason for Vanellope to be a princess if she is the true ruler of Sugar Rush, QUEEN HER UP DA**IT! So she's on my list but my true opinion she should be queen. Hope everyone likes her.
