Hey everyone! I've been planning this for a few months now, an adaptation of the AU featuring the Dream Sans and Nightmare Sans brothers in my version!
In my version, I imagined his design could be in much lighter tones, reflecting the idea of him being a peacemaker, so I had him wearing lighter, whiter clothes. And I actually like the idea that, even though he represents joy, hope, and things like that, he also chooses to isolate himself from others, trying not to form bonds with other characters.
I thought he might still use a bow and arrow, but I was too lazy to draw it lol
And because of his isolation, he ends up having difficulty socializing with others, so he may seem quite cold.
I always wondered what it would be like if one of the brothers was a Papyrus instead of two Sanse twins, and I think leaving Papyrus as Nightmare was one of the best choices for me.
I like the contrast between him and his brother; Papyrus is usually portrayed as a very nice guy, and I was missing a villainous Papyrus, so I did this 😺
Nightmare Papyrus isn't a cold and strategic guy like Nightmare Sans; in fact, he's quite a sadistic jerk lol
Unlike his brother, he can't stand being alone for long; he enjoys certain company to seek attention, although he doesn't admit it aloud and prefers to call it "I'm just looking for entertainment."
Regarding the AUs that strengthen the bond between the two, I had thought that:
They have a conflict regarding "territorial dominance"—specifically, over AUs. Dream Sans protects the mood of peaceful AUs (like Underswap) as best he can, and the more positivity an AU provides him, the stronger he becomes.
Nightmare Papyrus is something similar, yet the exact opposite. He, too, can command various AUs—specifically those of a negative nature (Underfell, Horrortale, etc.)—and has the ability to make already dire situations even worse. He derives his power from these AUs.
Undertale sort of becomes the middle ground here; it’s neither purely pacifist nor genocidal, but rather a balance of both worlds that Nightmare Papyrus and Dream Sans manage to master—it all depends on the path the player chooses to follow.
