==> Scofflaw: Dream
You couldn’t make out his words, really. You could just about make out a cadence, anger or sadness or maybe both, you didn’t care. Mostly every syllable was just a throb of blinding agony inside your skull. The light hurt, your body hurt, your halved eyeball fucking hurt. Your world had become a last sip of liquor swirling around the bottle, everything rushing and draining away from you, the world brown and red and liquid and pain.
You had to fight your own brain, make it force your arms up to grip at Scofflaw’s coat. Except, only one hand made it there. Again, with stabs of fresh, searing despair, you remembered that there is only one.
You tried to scream at him. You tried to talk to him, even. You’d lost track of everything in your state but you did remember that Innovator did this, that your life was no longer an option. You knew that people who went into the river didn’t come out alive. You’d seen enough corpses fished out, investigated enough of their cases to know they usually lead back to Scofflaw. And now here you were. You were half dead already and you had no idea why he was gripping you like that but you didn’t want to die now, and you tried to tell him as much.
All you actually did was make a few gargled sobs. You couldn’t work your tongue around actual words.
You shut your eyes eye and tried to picture the sickened, miserable look on Deadeye’s face when he would inevitably find you on the shore, surrounded by police tape and all the people he hated. And then your brain gave in, mercifully, temporarily. It didn’t want to know when you hit the water. It didn’t want to feel the pain of drowning, your lungs filling with water, collapsing, stopping your heart.
It let you slip away, and you went limp on the dock right then, Scofflaw’s voice fizzling out to nothing at all.
There is no way in any universe you're leaving him here. There's no way you can let him die, drop him into the river, watch him slip under the black water and disappear from your life. You don't want him gone. You'll pay the price. You'll pay whatever Innovator throws at you, lose your own eye and arm.
For once in your life, you're feeling you've found something that's worth it, but you can't quite grasp why. You have no idea how Scout has wormed his way into becoming important, but he is. And halfway between the feeling of bile rising in your throat and your brain dropping out of your head, you lift him up in your arms and he weighs less than ever. It's that fact that keeps your legs moving, away from the chill of the dock, away from certain death of the one person who doesn't bend over for you. The person who reminds you that you are alive and this is not all a perfect dream where everyone does what you say. There is nowhere you can take him. There is only an alleyway, a dark slash between two buildings. You pick a nice alley at least, right? Something respectable. Sort of. Between restaurants. He'll be found in no time. Tying his own belt around his arm, you try to stop the bleeding. Your coat is thrown over his body, tucked in, praying he doesn't freeze. Hand covering his eye, you want to help. You can heal yourself. Your body puts itself back together. The shadows swirl around on your fingers, but then blaze purple, and your hand flies away from his skin like a whip. All you could've done was burn. He's dying and you can't even help him. Wiping blood from his cheeks, you choke up, and try to whisper how sorry you are. With a kiss to his forehead, you're gone, as the sound of voices carries into the alley.

Welly well well Hellooooo there.
==> Scofflaw: Dream
You were not unconscious. You wished to god that you were. The pain was unbearable, the most wretched thing you’d ever experienced, but you were mercilessly tough. Your mind and body would not give out. You stayed awake. You felt it all, even after you were drained of your ability to scream.
He touched your face and that ability was renewed as new agony shot through your skull. You let out a hideous sob, and cracked the back of your head against the dock to distract from the blood and god knows what else oozing from your sliced eye, wishing to heaven or hell or any godhead that would listen that you would just black out and not have to feel it anymore.
But you wouldn’t.
You tried to hit him, but muscle memory doesn’t mean shit when there’s no limb attached. Moving the stump where your arm used to be was a mistake. You almost threw up. You were already broken, from the minute Innovator got his hands on you. Now you were just desperate.
You screamed and screamed and wept like a child, begging Scofflaw between sobs. Begging him to spare you, or kill you, because the agony was too much and you wanted it all to end right then and there, it was the only escape, you couldn’t take it, it hurt.
Breath catching in your throat, you stared, gaped at him as he squirmed just barely and wailed. It was quiet, like someone had a hand over his mouth, only due to how weak he was. He shouldn't have even been conscious. He dry-heaved and turned onto his side, tears running out of one eye. Just the one eye, you remember it quite clearly. You fumbled for something in your pockets, fingers curling and uncurling as you sputtered and stared, breath coming up short as you put your hand on his shoulder. Gritting your teeth, you went to shove him into the river, nudging him a few inches towards the edge of the dock. The moon wasn't out, but a car passed by at just the right moment to catch light, and you're pretty sure that's what they call fate. His face lit up just a bit brighter, agony and sadness, and it shot you straight through the heart. Swallowing, you buried fingers in his jacket and snarled. "Why can't I just fuckin' kill you? The fuck's wrong with me? I can't do this to ya, Scout, I can't drop you in there, I just can't."

Finally admitting you have nipple-eyes, eh, Snowflake? Great.
Imagination’s the foundin’ principle’a life, an’ shit. Just ask Inny. I think. I’m drunk now.
I don’t see how imagination founded anything! I thought that was some sciency principle or something, like the big bang.
...Big bang? Big bang, you say. There was a big bang that started everything, huh. I'm pretty sure your mom and I just called that Thursday, thirty-seven years ago.
