Kid Dolores with TĂo BrunoâŚ
Part one of a fan board/animatic Iâm working on!
Iâm so in love with this movie and these characters that I had to start making my own scenes đ This obviously isnât canon since Camillo never got to see Brunoâs hideout in Casita #1 in the movie, but this is just to pretend that Mirabel and Bruno showed him.
i'm glad the new tumblr sexyman is latino. representation!!
and DON'T turn him into a British white twink. I'm watching you.
Yes I did buy the book version of Encanto and it was delightful but also a few things were different in an interesting way. (These are all Bruno things 'cause, y'know.)
- When Bruno is having the vision in Antonio's room he's kinda in pain and just not having a good time but Mira reassures him and says the family needs him which is sweet. He sort of goes into a trance after that though. Like he's not able to have a whole coherent conversation during the prophecy.
- He also says it's the first good vision he's ever had.
- "But you dug up the vision and showed the family anyway so who knows? Maybe you do wreck everything" Bruno NO. He's even more spicy in this one.
- Bruno has some different repetitive things he does to ward off bad luck, like counting and whistling (and imo it feels more like possible OCD in the book? Just the vibes). He does still throw salt and hold his breath, too.
- He actually says "If I see something bad, it will happen" in this version, suggesting that he agrees with those who blame him for stuff. Mirabel challenges that idea. Again, infinitely sadder. I like the angst but I do prefer him being annoyed at goldfish lady for the past decade.
- "I think you should go because...well, actually I don't have a good reason. I'm just getting uncomfortable." I dunno why but this is funnier than his line in the movie.
- The epilogue. He never has to eat alone again and everyone loves the rat plays. <3
7 Foot Frame, My Ass: The Collection
There was that deleted scene in COTBP where Pintel said he used to date a eunuch.
So compromise? Gay uncle and nephew duo who use their last brain cells to wreak havoc on the seven seas?
btw this isn't disney saying they're related just to "no homo" their relationship, it actually was a backstory that the actors worked out themselves (and they also gave them first names)
"Absolutely! I'm his uncle, it was like he was like my sister's kid, and that was what we played. You know, basically, is that I was Uncle Abner. He was Terry Ragetti, I was Abner Pintel. We just created our own backstory to give us a reason why we would do some of the silly things, you know. And then we shared half a brain, right? The characters are not the smartest dudes, so that was part of it as well."
gay uncle and nephew duo is absolutely correct though
â¤ď¸đ¤welcome to the love square!đđ
so happy to call this piece complete! my goal was to make a single image that could show all sides to marinette & adrienâs relationship at once. thanks for all the support as i was posting wips; it really meant a lot! close ups for each pair are below. which side is your favorite?
somebody said ed feat. tony-hawk-syndrome and I very much agree
MLB - Chats new power
A random idea I had about Chat gaining a new power, and a suit change, but the power reminds Ladybug of his akumatised alter ego!
you wouldnât believe how much fun I had while making this cheesy comic
If you don't mind me asking ( and you really don't have to answer if it makes uncomfortable or would bring up pointless discourse in your blog ) a lot of people call thomas islamphobic , but like when did that even happen ? Like him not being able to add Muslim characters in the show because he isn't allowed to , isn't islamphobic .
Hi! I don't mind, but I don't think I am the best person to talk about this matter. I'll try to explain, but if my followers have more informations, please feel free to join the conversation.
Thomas has explained on Twitter that no, they cannot put religion of any kind in Miraculous. It is one of the 9 kids show taboos, which are summarize in this illustration. Plus, France has secular laws. One of which voted in the early 2000s notably states it is forbidden to wear visible religious signs inside schools and said law affects the students. So you could imagine the reaction of France if a French kids show -- on a tv channel which probably receives some public funding from the French government -- was showing teenagers wearing a religious symbol inside the collège. That's one reality they are dealing with unfortunately.
Some people respond that is it hypocrite because we have seen the Notre-Dame Cathedral in the show and we did got episodes celebrating Christmas or the Saint-Valentin.
Except, in the show, we have never seen any close-ups of the Cathedral aside of a gargoyle when LB is first testing her yoyo during Origins, nor did we got a scene on or inside Notre-Dame. The closer of the Cathedral was in the background was during Sandboy, and notice how many details are missing.
No statues of angels nor saint patrons. Notre-Dame is visually there because it is huge monument in the landscape of Paris, but the model is reduced to its basic shape with minimal ornaments (archs, columns, and stained glass). You won't find any cross on it (or anywhere in ML Paris) either.
As for the Christmas special, there were no mention to the nativity either. They keep the celebration to its pagan origins. "Yule logs", "peace and thruce", âdecorated treesâ, "presents" and "time and dinner with family" along with favoring the commercially red and white representation of Santa Claus over any bible character.
And Valentine's Day, despite being called Saint Valentin in French, is nowadays not consider a holy day in France at all. There is no prayer nor mass for that particular day. School and commercial activities still are open. People just send letters or buy heart shaped products. However, Dark Cupid is of course based on Cupid, the roman deitity of desire and attraction. Mythological deities as inspiration seems to pass. The Old Egyptian gods, Sapotis, Anansi and Oni-Chan along with some of the superheroes like King Monkey are also based on mythic figures. I guess so long no one is using them as holy idol, they fall more under the "folklore" category which appears more acceptable.
Heck, if we see a wedding, it's a civil marriage in the Mayor's office instead of a religious ceremony.
We have Jeanne D'Arc as historical figure who battled to free France and Thomas depicted her as a previous Ladybug Holder, thus removing the religious elements of her "adventures" who get rewritten to fit the Miraculous Lore.
We got Nathaniel whose familly name is a hommage to Jacob Kurtzberg (AKA Jake Kirby) and since Jake Kirby is a jew, they made Nathaniel's heritage be jew by extension. Thus why we don't see Nate in the xmas episode. And Evillustrator's beret subtly ressembles a kippa in its shape. But those are really small details that can easily be missed.
And we do have Prince Ali's Chaperonne who do have her hair wrapped inside some cloth but it appears to be aesthetic more than anything else. Also, both Ali and his chaperonne come from an invented country.
So we can rise the question : without the religious symbols and beliefs, without the prayers and other religious aspects put behind celebrations, can they still be able to put characters to which people can still identify as Muslim or Hindu for example? After all, someone's culture doesn't revolve around just religion.
Food, language, arts, clothing, gestures, habits and customs.
Those do give some representation. It would be a start but would it be satisfying? Or will something appear to be missing?
That I don't know.
Anyway, context wise, there are way more factors than just creator's decisions to take into account. People really need to stop thinking that everything in the production of a TV show or movie falls on the shoulder of one sole individual. It isn't a self publish novel or comic. It's a product supervised by powerful people from different corporations. As a creator, Thomas can propose and push some ideas, but if there is no support from the higher ups, he is powerless too and must propose something else. Even within his own TV show.
I really wonder how many of these people who do make the claims are actually practicing Muslims. I canât speak for everyone but as someone who is one since I wear the hijab and pray daily in a religious household, it moreso comes off as people reaching and using a serious issue to put down a cartoon that they have grievances with. I find that more insulting than anything, since I doubt they were knocking on every other cartoon who has no rep for this too. It reminds me of how some fans suddenly found characters in season 3 to always be problematic because thatâs when they started disliking the show.Â
Across cartoons, I can only name these visibly Muslim characters off the top of my head
- Background characters in Infinity train/Carmen Sandiego who were wearing the hijab
- Adil from Arthur, who appears in about 3 episodes across the franchise
- That one hijab-wearing girl in Steven Universe Future who appeared for an episode segment
Typically, Iâve just taken it as understanding that kids shows have restrictions and not expecting rep from series, but being pleasantly surprised when there is. Which is why I donât get why people are specifically pushing their expectations on ML to give rep when hardly any mainstream media does (sadly).Â
@kisilinramblingsâ did mention clothing as a way for representation, and I have heard people say they could just have a character wear a hijab but sadly some people find that too religious. Plus, considering these articles are all from 2021...
today im thinking about the huge buff bread guy from kikis delivery service. highly underrated guy
Genuinely just a good man. Wife adopts teenage witch that needs a place to stay in the city? Sure. Even though you got a kid on the way? Thatâs fine. Cat too? Love cats.Â
My favorite moment with him is when he goes to get some prepped baking sheets and he does this fancy twirl with them in front of Jiji. Like, thereâs no other people in the room, he does this to impress a cat.
I donât think he ever says more than a whole word the entire movie, and I still love him more than most Disney princes based on this one moment alone.
And the part where he wanted to surprise Kiki by making that beautiful elaborate sign OUT OF BREAD to advertise her business and he was all anxious for her to get home and see it
But then when he sees her coming he gets all bashful and runs away đ
Little animatic of this post by @pipiezexal bc i can't stop thinking about it
