Once Al mentioned the activity they would be doing, Pennylet out a soft, barely audible “Oh fuck.”
She was not the warmest towards people, and she knew thatabout herself. Not that she was ever rude, but Penny didn’t appreciatebullshit. Instead, she was the type of person to give it right back. Then, hermind started wandering, and she wondered what she would pick out. Of course, itwould be something Deadpool-related. She was hooked on the comics and movies. But suppose the person didn’t like comic books? Or, books in general? A comicbook wouldn’t work for them. Al could own the comic book shop, but that didn’tmean he enjoyed reading. And if she couldn’t “sell” the product to him, shemight lose her job.
Walking slowly out of the backroom, poking Barrell as shewent past, she stepped over to the side and looked at the store. Clothing wasnever a good idea – she didn’t know anyone’s clothing style, and it would beembarrassing if they didn’t have the right size.
Her eyes fell on Funko Pop figurines, and she scurried overto the bookcase that held them. Now, just to find the right one, and she wouldbe all prepared for the activity. Already, she was thinking of reasons whypeople would enjoy one.
Barrell knew jack shit about Star treck. That space stuff had never done it for him. But he offered a playful roll of the eyes at Al’s comment, playing along as though he got it entirely.
It wasn’t until Al mentioned a game, that the blonde boy fully perked up. Penny cursed something so softly that Barrell didn’t quite catch it, but by the looks of it she didn’t seem too thrilled. — Standing side by side the two surely held very opposite expressions.
Oh. This would be a piece of cake.
He passed Penny in the store && ventured right back to the section that landed him this job in the first place. The spiderman comic books. The one series he’d actually geeked out over as a kid, learning all the ins && outs of the adventures of Peter Parker.
Now. To pick the right issue. — Miles Morales was too new to have many selling points. The kid was fresh, but so was his story. ( for the most part. ) The Clone Saga, Spider-Gwen, && Scarlet spider was pretty cool, but got too confusing with all of the universe jumps. So he reached for a classic. The Amazing Spiderman.
The let his finger brush against the brims until he found the one he was looking for, a cocky little smirk tugging up his lips. Issue #121. It wasn’t an original print, but that hardly mattered. When it printed, it took the comic book world by storm. So, yeah. This was what he was going to go with.
“ boop. “ He teased, returning Penny’s poke on his way back to Al.
Al watched the kids pick out their choices. He’d suspected Penny would be drawn to the shelf of Funko Pops. After all, she had been working here a few days already and he’d noticed that she was fond of them and had pointed out some of her favorite characters to him.
This Braeden (Brandon? Bart?) kid was a mystery though. Al stood, arms cross his chest, watching as the kid leafed through some of the comics, before settling on a classic. Damn. Nice choice kiddo.
He did his best to hide his beam of pride as his newest employees came up to him. He had to be all boss-like and whatever, ya know, be all tough on them for the first day.
“Alright, guys,” he said, clapping his hands together. “Whatcha got? Wow me–Ladies’ first,” he gestured towards Penny.
