C'mon Daddy, listen to me! All of my life, everyone has always told me, 'You're a shoe! You're a shoe, you're a shoe, you're a shoe!'. And today I just stopped and I said, 'What if I don't wanna be a shoe? What if I wanna be a- a purse, y'know? Or a- or a hat! No, I'm not saying I want you to buy me a hat, I'm saying I am a ha- It's a metaphor, Daddy!

I really resent the whole “you can interpret art however you want!” Narrative. Like … sure. But that doesn’t make it right. Some of you never got told you were dead wrong by your lit professors and it shows.
The idea that while there’s levels of subjectivity, that theres no objective truth, is fucking weird. The ability to understand context and interpret words, visuals, tone, etc. is kind of important!
I agree completely!

“Acting isn’t as complicated as [acting teacher] Lee Strasberg thinks. I’ve listened to that Method thesis. Instinctively, you do these things. You do it naturally—I mean digging into your own experiences. What no instruction explains is that indefinable something, the reason why the eye of the audience is on one person in a scene. That quality, the one that singles out a particular person’s interpretation of an emotion, can’t be taught.” —Tony Curtis
