⟡ yan! izumi who's been by your side since you were toddlers.
⟡ yan! izumi who was there for your first crush, first kiss, first relationship, first everything.
⟡ yan! izumi who could only wish that he was the one who gave you those firsts.
⟡ yan! izumi who was the only person you came to for your troubles.
⟡ yan! izumi who saw how your mood was dropping day by day. the day he noticed the bruise on your arm was the day he heard about how your boyfriend was treating you, and he decided that it simply wouldn't do.
⟡ yan! izumi who politely pulled him aside after class and gave him a "talking to" about how he should be treating you.
⟡ yan! izumi who just smiles and nods when you excitedly tell him all about your date, and about how your boyfriend has been extra nice to you lately, his stare unrelenting as if he was entranced by you.
⟡ yan! izumi who's noticed that you're not relying on him as much as you used to.
⟡ yan! izumi who tries to rationalize with himself. you're both growing older; he has more shoots and idol work to focus on, you have work and school, of course the passage of time is gonna make you two drift apart!
⟡ yan! izumi who still just can't come to terms with it. he can't deal with not being your number one anymore, not being your rock.
⟡ yan! izumi who starts texting and calling you more, simple check ins turning into almost religious daily messages.
⟡ yan! izumi who is ecstatic when you text back. your messages seem slightly less enthusiastic than normal, but it's a response nonetheless!
⟡ yan! izumi who fills you in on everything that's been happening in his life, giving you a reason to tell him the same.

⟡ yan! izumi who had been texting you nonstop for a few months.
⟡ yan! izumi who flies all the way back home from his shoot in milan after you didn't respond to him for two days.
⟡ yan! izumi who shows up at your doorstep, and comes face to face with you after a year.
⟡ yan! izumi who notices how sunken your face looks. your dull skin, dark eyebags, and miserable expression making it clear to him that he needed to be here. rationality be damned, you were suffering without him!
⟡ yan! izumi who offers to stay over at your place to watch over you. you've clearly been neglecting your health, so he can make sure you're well taken care of!
⟡ yan! izumi whose heart drops to the bottom of his designer shoes when you blatantly refuse. you blame your disheveled state on him coming at a bad time, but he doesn't accept that. he insists on staying, insists on being your rock once again just like he was all those years ago.
⟡ yan! izumi who starts to get mad when you say no over and over. you know that your relationship has already become rocky due to all those years apart, but he's still holding on for dear life to keep the threads of your past together in one coherent woven piece.
⟡ yan! izumi who, despite your constant refusal, still books a hotel near your campus anyway.
⟡ yan! izumi who "somehow" manages to keep bumping into you on your way to and from class.
⟡ yan! izumi who stalks all your favourite restaurants, cafes, libraries, and desert spots just so he can get another chance to talk to you.
⟡ yan! izumi who (through very ethical means) gets a hold of your schedule, just to know when your finals end.
⟡ yan! izumi who's sitting on your bed when you come home from your last exam of the season.
"congratulations, doll!" his voice pierces your ears as you unlock the door to your room. his perfectly poised appearance seems wholly out of place in your messy dorm, the papers and clothes strewn over every flat surface seemingly meaning nothing to him. "i got your favourite." i tilts his head toward your desk, which had a pile of snacks and sweets from your childhood. "i thought i'd treat you for working oh so very hard during all your exams... ♡" he stands up and drapes his arms over your shoulder, smiling brighter than the sun as you take in your surroundings.
"Sena, what the fuck?!" you push him off of you, glaring bullets into his head. "when i told you i didn't need your help, that doesn't mean find every possible way to wiggle your unwanted presence into my life." you take a step back, crossing your arms and pointing your finger accusingly at him. "don't think i haven't noticed you sneaking around everywhere i frequent. the cafe near campus, the library, my bingsu spot?! it's like the word "no" doesn't exist in your dictionary! and now this... this is seriously fucked. i don't even wanna know how you got into my dorm, or how you got my schedule." your gaze falls to the floor, your shoulders slumping in defeat. "i know you're trying to hold on to the past, but i seriously think you should let it go. i've tried to be nice, i've tried to let you down as softly as i could, but i can't sugarcoat it any more than i already have. we're both adults now, we're not those little kids who hung out at the mall or snuck around buying—" you pick up a snack packet from your desk. ""hello panda minis" anymore. we have our own lives, you seriously just need to let go."
izumi's eyes grow hazy and unfocused, as if he's not understanding anything you're saying. "no, no, no! it wasn't even that long ago when we were doing all those things- and who's to say we can't be friends even in adulthood?" he takes a step toward you, a tentative hand on his heart. "the fact you even remember what we used to do together is proof that our relationship can be the same as it was then! i'm putting in the work, so all you have to do is listen to me here!" he grabs both of your hands, staring into whatever's left of the soul he was once so entwined with. "we can do this together. i'm not letting you throw away all we had just because you're too good for me now."
you stare at him incredulously, trying to wring your hands out of his grip to no avail. "ME? TOO GOOD FOR YOU? you're the model, you're the top idol- i couldn't even dream of being on your level!" you finally do manage to get away from him, putting a good deal of space between the two of you. "i just- i have my own life now, sena. i have new friends who are on my social level, i have a career, i have a little fling... as much as i'd love to reconcile with you, too much has changed between us. so if you could please leave my dorm and take all your... gifts, back, that'd be great." the tone of your voice signals finality, leaving izumi speechless.
after a beat of silence echoes through the room, his shoulders drop in defeat. with a heavy sigh, he stalks over to your door, not bothering to pick up everything he left on your desk. "i'm leaving the snacks for you, you'll probably enjoy it after working so hard today." he places his hand on the doorknob, not opening it just yet. "if you really want me to go, i will. but just... try not to forget me, okay?" he turns to you with a slight smile before opening the door and slipping outside.
the rest of the week goes by without another mention of him, almost as if his entire existence was erased from your life after he left your room a few days ago. you try to focus on everything else that's happening: graduation setup, room cleanouts, extra credit opportunities - but no matter what you do and where you go, you just can't shake the feeling like you're being watched. "i'm just being silly, it's probably the lack of sleep that's getting to me..." you think to yourself. to get your mind off of it, you decide to go out for drinks with your friends. a night on the town will surely get your mind off things!
the weekend after your altercation with izumi, the plans have been made to go to the local bar with a small group of your closest friends. after throwing together a simple outfit and fixing your hair, you grab your keys and head out the door. the bus ride to the bar goes smoothly (besides the weekend traffic), but once you step out of the drivers seat, you get that feeling again... the one of eyes on you from every angle. you decide to ignore it like you always do, but it feels a bit too intense this time. less like general paranoia and more like a genuine feeling of being stalked. you look toward the dark forest beside the parking lot, and after looking a bit closer, you swear you see a shadowy figure hide behind a tree. "whatever, whatever... it's not real, just ignore it..." you whisper to yourself.
you pop into the bar and immediately spot your friends, a small relief. you sit down in the booth and lean your head on the table, the weight of the past week suddenly hitting you at once. "you okay?" your best friend chimes in from across the table. "yeah... yeah. i'm fine. just tired... i still have a few more extra credit assignments to do..." you sigh, slumping against them. "awh, shame. on the bright side, you only have another week before you're free!" they pat your head. "i'll drink to that..." another friend chimes in from across the table. a drink is slid across the table toward you, to which you happily accept. you all exchange cheers, and you start to feel just a bit lighter.
after one or two (or three or four) rounds of drinks, you all decide to pack up and head your separate ways. you exchange your goodbyes, before heading outside to walk to the bus stop. your stroll down the street is hazy, your vision blurred from the multiple long island iced teas. you lean against the pole as you wait for your bus, feeling the presence of someone beside you. you pay no mind to it, rocking back and forth without a care in the world. "got your own life, huh? what a joke." the voice whispers, causing you to turn to them. the last thing you see before you're dragged into a black sedan is your masked assailant's hungry eyes. you should've known he left too damn easy.
you scream, kick, and flail as hard as you can, but it's no use. when you're thrown into the back of the car, your wrists and ankles tied up, you hear a familiar voice. "stop moving. you're lucky i even kept you conscious. i could've shoved this rag into your mouth and knocked you out, but i'd rather have you along for the ride... aren't i soooo gracious~?" you try to move your head up to look at the disembodied voice, but your head is shoved to the ground. a silk blindfold is tied tight around your head, completely blinding you. "do you like it? i made sure it was soft so it wouldn't hurt your pretty head." your shoulders are grabbed and (not so softly) placed into the lap of your kidnapper. "we're gonna have such a great time, you and i... i'll make you regret ever saying no to me."
the car comes to a halt after a seemingly long drive. your head is still swimming from the alcohol and adrenaline, but your senses are shocked into function when you're harshly shoved out of the trunk. you can hardly walk without stumbling, the blindfold only making your balance worse. "honestly, you can't do anything without my help... just like back then. ♡" you're scooped up into their arms in a princess carry, your head cradled by their chest. they shove open a door and throw you down onto a couch, and behind the muffled static of alcohol running through your system, you can hear a lock clicking.
you struggle against the bindings holding your wrists together, your breathing heavy and labored. "aww... look at you. my sweet bunny... you've always been so gullible, haven't you? it hardly even took any work at all to get you here..." the blindfold is ripped off your eyes harshly, the dark living room making it hard for your vision to adjust. a lamp is turned on in one of the corners, illuminating the back of your kidnapper. you can faintly make out a designer logo on his black shirt, his silver hair glowing in the light of the pink flower lamp hanging on the wall. as your eyes scan the room, you realize it's not a living room at all. it's a one to one copy of your childhood bedroom complete with books, the video game console you had all those years ago, and the pictures on the wall... except, those are different. instead of it being you with your mom, you with your childhood pet, and your family, it's all been edited so he's in the photos as well. your heartbeat starts to pick up, your mind growing hazy as you fall back onto the bed. you look down, and it's the exact same bedsheet you had back then.
you finally find your voice after a bit of hoarse whispering, but before you can scream, a gloved hand comes to cover your mouth. "hush now, doll. we wouldn't want anyone to disturb our catch up, would we?" izumi looks down at you with a forced smile, a vein bulging in his forehead. "i did all of this just for you. i thought that maybe, maybe if i brought you back to when everything was good, that you'd realize that we're meant to be together. it's always just been me and you, what part of that can't you realize?!" his fist slams into the wall, causing one of the picture frames to fall. you let out a small whimper when the glass shatters against the ground, tears welling up in your eyes. "oh... did that scare you?" he sits down beside you, bringing your head in his lap. "my poor little lamb... don't worry, it won't hurt you." he pets your head condescendingly, like one would a caged animal. "zuzu's here to make it a~ll better, okay?" he whispers to you. the softness in his voice makes tears fall from your eyes, your body curling up as you sob into his lap.
"why... why are you doing this? what did i do?" as you wail into his arms, his gloved hands come up to wipe your tears away, but when you look up you notice that the light in his eyes is gone. the warmth that used to flicker in his eyes like a steady flame has been blown out, now replaced by a harsh glare. the smile on his lips doesn't reach his eyes as he softly caresses your face, gently cooing soft nothings to you. "it's nothing you did, sweetness. i just didn't do my job as your pillar. it was my responsibility to keep you safe, healthy, and cared for, and i didn't do that. i let you stray away from me, from my security. and now look at you... drunk out of your mind, exhausted, overworked... all because you thought you were too good to accept my help. but now that i have you here, i'll make sure you don't let your silly ego get in the way." he boops your nose with a bit more force than is necessary before kissing his cheek.
at the wave of sudden affection, you start to sob again. you wail into his arms, blubbering drunken nonsense. his hands tick with restrained anger, but it's your incessant pleading that finally gets the best of him. "i'm sorry, we can be friends again, just please stop this! this is all so insane, why can't you see that?!" he stares down at you blankly, no longer trying to smile. "... when you look at the world through rose colored glasses, you really can't see anything all that well." he growls under his breath, tugging off his glove. he grabs your chin harshly, tugging on your bottom lip to force your mouth open. he shoves the leather glove into your mouth before pushing you off his lap. "you'll stay here until you can realize just how good i am to you. just how nice i'm being, how i'm doing all of this for you." he stands up off the bed, not bothering to undo your restraints. "but i'm sure you'll come to eventually. after all...
you've always been "izumi's sweet little doll", haven't you?"
