Reasons I'm a feminist
Because girls are taught in public school that once she has sex she’ll lose a part of herself.
Because women who have a lot of sex are sluts while guys are studs (double standards).
Because Amanda Todd, Felicia Garcia, ect. were drove to ending there lives because of sexism.
Because women are told the first time they have sex it will be painful, and bloody - they can be terrified.
Because one in four women are assaulted and society still asks “what was she wearing?”
Because male victims of rape aren’t believed since “guys want sex all the time” right? No.
Because of cat calling, and street harassment, because no, its not a fucking compliment.
Because when I talk about consent, people laugh.
Because boobs are used to sell everything from burgers to soap “but don’t you dare breast feed out in the open”.
Because not shaving as a female is unacceptable, people whereas males have an option to (double standards).
Because of how much pressure we put on girls to value their appearance above everything else.
Because of the many plastic surgeries people are encouraged to have.
Because are culture considers it normal to cut off part of an infants penis.
Because male orgasm in films is rated PG13, while female orgasm is rated R.
Because in 2013, in the USA, there was over 700 bills proposed to regulate a woman’s body. And for men, the rightful number, 0.
Because the political body in the USA is over 80% male.
Because men occupy the top ranks of not just politics but every industry in the world.
Because jobs! Women only hold ¼ stem jobs, 6% of TV stations, 5% of executive positions of the media.
Because a woman taking on a leadership role, is consider bossy
Because of the pay gap in the US. They will make $450,000 less than a male in the same exact position.
Because the media tells me women are my competition, destroying my friendships with them.
Because of gender roles.
Because calling someone a “pussy” and being compared to a woman is such a harsh thing to say.
Because boys are shamed for being emotional. Because that’s a “girl thing” and girls are “weak”. Nevermind the fact that it was a woman who pushed you out of her goddamn vagina.
Because people still say that asexual, bisexual, and trans folk don’t exist.
I’m a feminist because same sex marriage is a no brainer.
Because in many places, its legal to discriminate transgender.
Because representation in the media is unfair to LGBT folk and women, especially of colour.
Because I believe the world should be safe for girls everywhere.
Because half the girls in Yemen will become child brides.
Because 65% of Brazilians believe that a woman who dresses in revealing clothes deserves to be raped.
Because in Saudi Arabia, women still can’t vote or drive.
I’m a feminist because in every corner of the world, every day, women’s bodies are used as a battleground in wars started by men. Raped, beaten, sold into slavery, mutilated, burned with acid.
Because people would take these words more seriously, if they came out a guys mouth.
Because when I dare to get angry at injustice I’m just “another feminist who’s on their period”
Because I believe in gender equality.
