Life Updates
Hey! Just wanted to give our followers a quick update! Sorry we have been so inactive - a lot of life has been happening since last summer.
Mary went back for her last year of college, and in the time leading up to Katsucon, Mel added a last minute Nier: Automata 2B cosplay to our list so that became a rush to finish.
Katsucon went great, but we haven’t had much time to work on anything between graduating and beginning the job search and moving out.
Our next posts will be of our completed cosplays that we wore to Katsucon, as well as some breakdowns of our next costumes. So look forward to those!
This upcoming week we will be making another big house move, but hopefully from there on out we should be making weekly progress on our costumes.
Thanks for sticking with us,
Mary & Mel
Love me some good Gay Space Mom aesthetics. Those rainbow clown shoes though.
Clunky and awkward design considered, we’re super happy with how these came out! The acrylic paint and whole no-longer-looking-like-clown-pants bit really helps.
These are cardboard and craft foam, and the knee pad and thigh holster/brace in the top right are EVA foam and craft foam.
The Gaige tools are all complete!
They’re all just EVA foam and acrylic, with some Sharpie detailing.
Still haven’t decided if I’m going to spray these in a matte finish or not...
Part of me says it is a waste of time, but part of me looks at that unholy Sharpie glare...
Athena’s pants are complete! It’s kind of weird to have them fade out like that but the paint goes down to mid-calf and her silly space boots go all the way up to the knee.
All just acrylic and jeans!
Legendary Mecromancer class mod and the Roboteer class mod are complete!
This was a super fun little accessory to make, and now my Gaige cosplay has a purse, which is always a bonus.
This is a painted aluminum lunchbox from Five Below. The inside is covered in felt and there are lots of custom “stickers” on the sides, which I’ll have to get in more detail later.
Here’s the almost complete Athena armor! All that’s left is to spray a matte finish on it.
As for Gaige, the lunchbox has got its flat colors, and the bike belt is ready to be assembled.
The front of the lunch box is going to be the Legendary Mechromancer class mod, and the back is going to be the Roboteer class mod.
And last, the first half of my Gaige skirt is complete! Sooooo excited about this one!
Kicking off Athena’s leg armor! We gave the EVA foam ones a shot, but they were too bulky and weren’t creating the shape we wanted, so we’ve moved to the tried-and-true cardboard method.
This is the first and middle layer of the leg armor. There’s going to be another craft foam layer on top, as well as a “inner” layer set into the top of the armor.
When these are all finished, we’ll be adding zippers to the back.
Here’s a comparison of the two different breastplates we made for Athena’s costume.
The left one is the first EVA foam piece we had ever made, completed a few months ago. The piece on the right is the one we just finished!
I think we’re making good progress!
The Athena scarf is completed!
We’re pretty happy with how it came out! There are some hooks that attach the short side of the scarf to the hood, and it takes some arranging to get it to sit correctly, but overall it really came together!
It’s being set aside until we paint and distress all of the clothing.
Camilla and Leo Aesthetics!
Got our shoe bases and all of our fabric! (Not pictured: the two yards of black vinyl for our armor)
Very excited to begin Mighty Purple Momther and Grumpy Baby Boy as soon as we hit the accessory bump for the Borderlands costumes.
Cellshading on the belts for Gaige and Athena is complete! Another check off the list.
Both Athena’s little box thing and the Borderlands logo are attached with velcro for easy storage.
Kicking off Athena’s leg armor! Here’s to hoping these work.
More photos coming as we get these glued and painted!
Here are the (almost) completed Gaige shirt and skirt!
All that’s left is to iron the skirt and paint on cell-shading details with acrylic.
I’m super happy with the embroidered patches, and the painted skull! (Also that bias tape. First time “properly” sewing bias tape.) It was also my first time hand-patterning anything, and luckily, I don’t think the skirt suffered from my lack of practice.
Some updates to the Athena armor! (and a shot of the Gaige belt accessories)
Turns out having the proper tools and glue makes things much easier.
This is our second attempt at the armor; this rendition has fewer overall pieces and a much better shape overall.
Next step will be making the craft foam details and getting those attached before sealing it with mod podge.
That contact cement tho
