what’s your mutant’s ability? Life Force Manipulation, the ability to drain, store, and transfer the life force of one being to another what’s your mutant’s classification level? Alpha/Beta depending on if anyone connects her tremors/migraines to her powers. how old were they when they first discovered their abilities? how did it happen? When Allegra was eight years old her family dog was hit by a car. As she was holding her she transferred her own life force into the dog, putting Allegra in a three month coma and saving the dog’s life. so, what can your mutant do with their abilities?…and what can’t they do (at least, not yet)? Allegra can drain the life force from others, store up to 50% of another beings life force in her own body, and transfer stored life force into other beings. However, Allegra can’t store life force energy for more than 24 hours at a time with a 24 hour cool down period and when she is storing life force she’s prone to migraines and tremors.  what’s one thing they hope to learn or are currently trying to learn with their abilities? Allegra is trying to understand where her powers came from since she was raised by her aunt (father’s sister) and knows very little about her family history. She also wants to learn how to control the tremors and migraines that come with her life force storage so she can store and transfer more life force for longer.  what is the most powerful thing your mutant can do with their abilities? do you think they would actually do it? If desperate enough Allegra could potentially transfer more than 50% of her stored life force, using her own life force as well, to another being. However, because of the coma she was in when she was eight she would be too scared to try it. what are your mutant’s weaknesses? When Allegra is storing life force energy she is prone to intense tremors and migraines, making it very difficult for her to participate in battle or combat unless she almost immediately transfers the energy somewhere else. do they use their abilities in their day-to-day life? in what ways? Allegra has a huge heart and will often use her own life force, or small amounts of stored life force, to heal injured animals, revitalize plants, and help her friends get over colds or pains. as a mutant, do they have any goals? dreams? Allegra hopes to one day be able to more reliably store life force energy so that she can act as a healer during combat.  how do they feel about the last 30+ years of mutant history? Allegra was raised by her aunt, an investigative journalist who investigated various human rights abuses. Because of that she has a strong sense of justice for mutant kind. While she believes that politician’s and the president’s hearts are in the right place, she also believes that they are too cowardly to make any true progress and knows that the only way mutant rights will be advanced is if they change the societal view of them. Allegra is highly suspicious of anything that comes from the Essex house, having been held there for a short time and is waiting impatiently for mutant abuses to be exposed but feels powerless to do much about it herself. 

BIO

Allegra was born to Cleo Zhu and Henry Carlisle in Hong Kong. Both mutants Henry passed Allegra off to his sister Kimberly because of his status as a gamma mutant leading to his inability to keep a job.

Allegra had a relatively happy childhood but always felt like something was missing since she didn’t know either of her parents. 

Allegra’s been interested in fashion since she was five years old and her babysitter taught her how to sew doll clothes. She knew she wanted to be a fashion designer/seamstress from a young age and spent hours sewing her own clothes, halloween costumes, and homecoming and prom dresses.

At eight years old Allegra was put into a coma after transferring her own life force to the family dog after a car accident. While she was in the hospital the Essex house intervened, taking Allegra without her aunt’s consent. 

Allegra was held in the Essex house for a month, in a coma the entire time, before her aunt managed to get her out using her investigative journalism contacts and threatening to go to the media that they had taken Allegra without her consent. 

Allegra spent many years hiding her powers, only using them in secret, but honing her skill by revitalizing plants, healing injured small animals, and discreetly curing her friend’s minor illnesses. 

Allegra attended the New York Fashion Institute and through the grapevine found out about the Xavier Institute, being welcomed there with open armed after she finished her two year design degree.

Allegra currently splits her time between training and doing various mutant activities with the Xavier institute and working at an idie fashion house in New York city as an assistant designer and seamstress.

POSSIBLE CONNECTIONS

Co Workers-Allegra works at an indie fashion studio in New York, it would be great for her to have co-workers, freelance or full time. Customers-Allegra works as a seamstress and designer outside of the studio she works for and I would love for her to have friends/acquaintances who come to her for various clothes commissions  Boyfriend-Looking for Allegra to have a boyfriend, preferably somebody that she met via the Xavier Institute but not necessarily required Half Siblings-As Allegra was looking for her mother (Cleo) I like the idea that she tracked down other children that share either her mother or father.

ALLEGRA​:

Allegra crossed her arms and pouted, she felt powerful with Tenzin’s life force coursing through her veins. Like she could jump off a building and fly or command an army of thousands. This wasn’t quite her, but she didn’t care.

“That’s no way to talk to someone who holds your life in their hands.” 

Allegra knelt down to get on the other girl’s level. “I’m here because I fucking live here. You Brotherhood terrorists are the ones who stormed the gates.” 

“As for what’s happening to you, that’s your life force, your energy, your chi if you will. Leaving your body and seeping into mine. By my estimates you’re down to maybe 30% of your original amount. You’ll get your powers back around 60…maybe. Maybe they’re mine now.” Allegra bit back a laugh, she absolutely didn’t have the power to take others mutations but simply watching the fear in the girl’s eyes was so satisfying that she was willing to keep lying. 

As she watched Tenzin gasp an idea flashed into her mind and she smiled, information was power and from the look of her the girl held a lot of it.

Allegra let a tiny bit of life force, maybe 5%, flow back into Tenzin and observed as her muscles relaxed. “Here’s how this is gonna go, you’re gonna tell me who you are, why you’re here, and what you want. You tell me the truth, I give you a little bit of your life force back. You lie? I drain you like a juice box. Are we clear?” 

Tenzin said nothing as she listened to the younger woman speak. Did she really think that she was going to give up the Brotherhood? Magneto would have her killed. She’d rather have her life sucked out of her than go through the torture he’d inflict. “Well, I know you don’t have my power,” she snapped, now kneeling and staring straight into the stranger’s eyes. “I can feel it inside me. I know when it’s there and when it isn’t.” There was a piece of her mind that was solely dedicated to the unyielding self-control she had to exert whenever she spoke. Her words held too much power if she didn’t take care with the way she said them.

“What the fuck do you think I’m here for, kid? A party?” Tenzin rolled her eyes, moving to cross her legs and sit with her back against the wall. If she was going to die, she might as well die comfortably. “See, I think my power is in working order. Even weak, I can use it. It’s performed mentally, not physically.” She sighed, brushing off her outfit. “You caught me off guard when I rounded that corner. I didn’t see you coming. But right now, I see you. I know exactly where you are. You try and drain me again, I’ll fucking kill you.”

Stopping herself from using her persuasion on this woman was hard, but she wanted to see what she’d do. Playing mind games was Tenzin’s favourite pastime. “I’ll burn you from the inside out. You’ll feel your organs slowly turning into ash, I’ll leave the heart and brain for last, so you feel the agony ripping through your body.” Tenzin didn’t really have that power, but bullshitting was fun. Reaching into her pocket, she pulled out a lighter, thumb flicking over the flint to start the flame. “Sounds fun, hmm? Liquid flames inside you.”

Allegra was past anger, this was rage, pure, unadulterated rage.  “You’d do well to remember that a minute ago you were on the verge of suffocating.” She tried to knock the lighter out of Tenzin’s hand but barely avoided getting grabbed.  Focus, you’re letting your emotions control you.  As Tenzin lunged at her Allegra snapped. Sucking, draining, taking every ounce of the energy that powered the girl’s body.  She could kill her, she wanted to kill her, but that wasn’t what she had been taught and she knew no good would come of it. Killing a brotherhood member would only make the institute, and the Professor, and the X-Men, everyone, it would make everyone look worse. 5%, that’s all the girl was left with when she stopped, but she did stop. Nearly positive she was unconscious Allegra bolted down the hallway, trying classroom after closet, all locked. Until she felt a familiar life force from behind a closet door.

Allegra let out a small laugh, “She’ll live. The girl from the brotherhood, if she’s stupid she’ll get up and keep fighting, might land herself in a hospital. Hopefully she’s smart and gets the hell out of here.” 

Allegra deeply enjoyed being close to Leo, her life force was electric in a way that only immortals are. When she was with Cleo it was like getting electrocuted, but with Leo it was like being charged from the inside out.  “I guess having a knife is better than nothing though.” Allegra shrugged, “I’ve always been told in training my powers should be used for defense, not offense.” She let out a sigh, “By the end of this I’m going to have one hell of a migraine.”  The life forces swirling around in Allegra’s system were practically intoxicating, the heroin-like energy from Tenzin, Joey’s primal insticts, and Cleo’s electricity all coursing through her veins, making her hands shake and screaming to break free. Allegra had been told never to store more than 50% of an individual’s life force, right now she was rocking at about 120%. “Thank you, by the way,” She decided after a moment, “For giving me advice about Cleo the other day. I think I may have actually been able to make a difference with her.” 

“I hope for everyone’s sake that she decides to be smart.” It’ll give the media way too much power if this goes in the Brotherhood’s favour. The world is always looking for excuses to vilify mutants, so God knows how much damage is already done. Attacking a school… a school of mutants, their own people. Leo can’t imagine what they were thinking. She’d like to remain optimistic and believe that good will win, but she’s lived enough of history to know that idea is a bland platitude.

The good guys don’t win. If you think the good guys won, it’s because they’re the ones that wrote the history books. Leo’s going to fight, and keep fighting, because that’s the right thing to do and all the young mutants here deserve a chance at life, but she isn’t really sure if she’s got much hope. The pensive expression on her face softens, tilting upwards at Allegra’s thanks. “Oh, it’s no problem, really! Me and Cleo go way back. She’s always been difficult.” Or maybe Leo is biased because their first encounter was Cleo attempting to kill her. “What did you end up saying to her?”

Leo is keeping an eye on the corners and doors, aware that they could be waylaid at any moment – - but she’s hard put to resist a conversation like this. It’s about nurturing a young member of the Institute, but it’s also pretty close to gossip, and those are two things Leo has always enjoyed immensely.

Allegra sighed leaning up against the wall. “Part of me wants all the people here to just get the hell out. Part of me wants to drain the life force out of every single one of them until they’re on the floor begging.”  The words almost surprised her, Allegra wasn’t sadistic by any means, most of her Professor’s at the institute told her that she was too gentle in her fight simulations. Then again...they also said she was too easily influenced by her emotions and currently she felt nearly consumed by rage.”  “As for Xiuying, well...I convinced her to stay and help, so that’s something.” She shook her head, “But it’s not like she’ll be applying for a position here anytime soon. If nothing else she sees that it’s wrong to attack a school full of children, mutant children, but I wish I hadn’t had to convince my own...mother...of that.”  Allegra was about to ask Leo what they should do next when she felt something strange. Immediately she took off, Leo following close behind, and decided,  “I can feel someone, someone who’s right on the edge of life and death. Their life force is hanging on by a thread,” She blinked quickly, “I have to do something.”

Allegra needed somewhere to hide and fast. She had sensed a group of brotherhood members, all most likely much stronger than her, in the next hallway and she knew there was no chance in hell she could take them all.  “C’mon, c’mon, c’mon” she thought, passing doors to classrooms and closets, all locked.  Finally she felt Joey’s life force behind an unlocked supply closet door. Joey’s life force always sent goosebumps up her arms, it was something primal but there was an indomitable good underneath the layers of prehistoric instinct.  Flinging the closet door open Allegra bolted in and shut the door just as quickly with her foot.  She grabbed Joey in a massive hug and breathed deeply, “You have no idea how happy I am to see you.”  

         this isn’t supposed to happen. it’s the one thought that they keep coming back to, again and again, while they curl in on themselves in the supply closet. this isn’t supposed to happen. xavier’s is supposed to be safe. but there’s masked assailants working their way deeper into the bowels of the institute, unafraid of breaking down any student that gets in their way, and all he can do is hide. uselessly. it’s the worst feeling in the world.

         but worse still is the brief moment of terror that the door flinging open gives him. has he been found? is he about to die? worse still, is he going to change and hurt someone? but thankfully, the other party isn’t one of the rampaging mutants coming to collect another head. “allegra?” he all but squeaks, taken into a tight hug before he can fully realize what’s happening. “oh my god, are you okay?”

Allegra wedged herself fully into the closet and dragged over a heavy looking cart to barricade the door.  “Yeah, thank you. I’m fine, had a bit of a go around with some brotherhood girl...she got away. Mostly it’s just nice to see someone who doesn’t want to kill me. What about you?” Allegra looked at Joey concernedly, he was tense and shaking and a piece of her did worry about possibly being trapped in this closet with a prehistoric rage monster if he lost control.  “Your life force were you...were you attacked? It might just be your anxiety you just feel...off. Is there anything I can do.”  She sat down the corner of the closet and motioned for Joey to join her.  “I’m really glad I found you.”

until now, xiuying had always made a point in remaining neutral in the battle between the brotherhood and xavier’s institute. it wasn’t that she didn’t want to pick a side, she simply hadn’t felt the need to pick a side. but this attack- well, it was different. and while she hadn’t donned the yellow and blue spandex, she was clearly fighting on the side of xavier’s. 

she wasn’t sure how much time had passed, then again she’d lost her sense of time long ago. she just knew that one second she was engaged in hand to hand combat and the next she was face to face with allegra. and as much as she wanted to turn and run, they were unfortunately, alone. 

“allegra,” she spoke, a slight hesitation present in her voice as she looked at the younger woman. “are you alright?”

In barely the blink of an eye Allegra was in the middle of a group of brotherhood goons. She could see another person fighting them on the other side of the room as well, although she couldn’t make out who it was. It couldn’t have been more than ten minutes until the assailants were either unconscious or had turned tail. Allegra planned to go after one she had seen slip away, but as she turned to run down the hall she came face to face with Xiuying.  “Oh...” Her breath caught in her throat. “Yeah...yes, I’m...I’m fine.”  Allegra’s mind was already a ball of conflicted emotions at having the institute invaded and she was overwhelmed from all the life forces she could feel. Xiuying was the last person she wanted to see right now, but she was still her mother.  “Are you? If you need a top up I can...you know.” Allegra looked around to make sure they were alone. “What are you doing here? It’s not like you’re the biggest fan of this place.

Allegra was furious. How dare they? How dare they come into the institute, into the professor’s house. Mutant liberation? Yeah fucking right. If you’re so concerned about the safety and survival of mutants why are you attacking the one place where they’re actually safe. 

Thugs, over-confident thugs drunk on a power fantasy. That’s all they are.

Allegra could feel the life force of someone rounding the corner. For half a second she was overwhelmed, whoever it was their life force practically felt like heroin in her veins, she could get used to this feeling. 

No, shut up, stop it, make them pay.

As the girl is about to open her mouth Allegra grits her teeth and decides, “nice try.” 

She starts to pull the life force from her, draining her reserves, down, down, down. “I could kill her” Allegra thought, halfway between panic and satisfaction. “She probably deserves it.” 

Finally, when the girl is on the floor, gasping, Allegra stops, asking “What the fuck do you think you’re doing here?” 

Tenzin had no idea what was happening. One second she was looking for Nia, and the next she was on the floor. She had one hand clawing at her chest as she tried desperately to breathe, the other was pressed against the ground, taking her weight. It felt like she was being slowly suffocated, her lungs burning in desperation as she failed to take in enough oxygen. This was her third time knocking at Death’s door in only a couple of months — people always said third time is the charm. 

It was hard to have any coherent thoughts when her life was being slowly drained from her, like energy from a battery. But there was one question flashing at the forefront of her mind, like a bright, red, neon sign: IS THIS HOW MY VICTIMS FEEL? Did they feel hopelessly alone as they tried and failed to stay alive? This was worse than how she felt at Essex. She still had her power this time, but she was unable to speak and get herself free. 

She looked up, finally, and saw a woman standing above her. There was a hint of fear in her eyes as she stared at her. How had she incapacitated her so quickly? Tenzin hadn’t even seen her before she was on her knees and at her mercy. The pain suddenly left her body as quickly as it came, her chest heaving as she sucked in short, sharp breaths.

The question forced her to take a moment to think, her breathing slowing down as she realised she wasn’t being starved of oxygen anymore. “I could,” she started, pausing to clear her dry throat, “I could ask you the same question.” Her chest was sore from the ragged breaths she’d taken, and her body felt exhausted. “What the fuck did you do to me, you wretched brat?”

Seeing Leo Allegra let out a huge gasp of relief. “Finally somebody who doesn’t want me dead.” 

She hugs her quickly and they start to walk in lock step.  “So what’ve you been up against? I think I managed to knock some sense into Cleo, helped Joey a bit, and I’m charged up on some brotherhood girl’s life force. I still can’t believe they’d hit the school? A school!” Allegra shook her head. “If they care so much about mutants why the hell are they attacking the one place we can actually be safe?” 

“Allegra!” Leo lets out a soft sigh, expression relaxing. She is having a decidedly bad day. Blood stains the front of her clothes, red rivers that ripple with each movement like a flag declaring her failure. She’s annoyed at herself; a state which rarely occurs. Every now and then she just thinks… a lifetime and another lifetime and another lifetime of frivolity is all good fun for her, but there’s a point at which empathy wavers. In a hundred years this day might be easily forgotten by Leo; but for everyone else present, this could well be one of the most awful things they live through.

She leans into Allegra’s hug, grateful for a brief moment of normality. “Politics are never about what people say they actually are,” Leo sighs, shaking her head. She doesn’t know what politics are actually about; she can’t imagine why the Brotherhood are attacking the school. She’ll leave the why’s to greater minds than her own; she just knows people rarely say everything they mean. She looks over in interest at the idea of Allegra fighting Cleo; immediately she wants to know more, but this is probably not the best time to stop for a gossip, unfortunately. She just nods. “Sounds like you’ve been busy! I’ve… not been much use so far, unfortunately. I seem to have brought a knife to a gun fight, literally and figuratively.” She gives her sword a little twirl. “Is she okay? The Brotherhood girl?” Leo wants to get an idea of how bad it is out there; how many lives are really being lost.

where exactly do they live? Allegra lives in a studio apartment in Silverhouse apartments

nice, nice! do they live there on their own or does your muse have a roommate / roommates? Allegra would rather have a small space to herself than a larger space she has to share which is why she lives in a studio

okay but tell us their favorite part of their place? what’s that one part of their home that makes them happy and they’re always just there? Allegra really, really loves her couch. She found it at a thrift shop in the west village and it’s original from 1958. She completely reupholstered it in torquoise velvet, her favorite fabric, and it’s her ultimate happy place.

alright next question, what about their room– is it clean or messy? bare or overflowing with things? tell us about it! Allegra’s space in general is pretty well organized except for her kitchen’s ‘chaos drawer’. That being said, her sewing space is always a complete mess and you’re always in at least a little bit of danger to get poked by a needle when you’re at her sewing station.

does your muse like having people over / how do they feel about people invading their space? Allegra LOVES having people over. The main reason she keeps her home so organized is so that people will always feel comfortable being over. Her ultimate favorite activity is watching tv or listening to music with one of her friends while she makes them a new design.

if their home was on fire, what are the three things they’d grab and save before running out? Her massive pile of plushies, Allegra’s been collecting plushies since she was a little kid and they are her darlings.

Allegra was trying not to panic, scratch that, Allegra was failing at not panicking.  Her hands trembled so bad that she could barely hold on to the pins she was using to fit the skirt suit to Frances’ body. Allegra’s boss, Hannah, took pride in the fact that her boutique dressed multiple members of congress, pro and anti-mutant alike. That being said, Frances Coldwell-Gould never failed to scare Allegra shitless. To be fair, completely disregarding her anti-mutant politics, Frances perfect, probably fake, stepford-like personality was more than enough to unnerve Allegra. But knowing that at any moment Frances might become suspicious of why she had to reschedule appointments because of migraines and sometimes her hands shook like she was freezing was enough to make her completely terrifying. “So…” Allegra steadied her hands for the moment by forcing a small bit of the extra life force she was storing into some flowers on the verge of wilting upstairs. “What event does our little boutique’s work have the pleasure of being on display for?” 

Frances noticed the light tremor for a moment—but as steady fingers slipped another pin in, she thought she may have imagined it. The only cause for concern would be if said shakiness lead to a little stab in her thigh. 

A morbid thought that often occupied Frances whilst she stood for her fittings. A seamstress would make a wonderful assassin, wouldn’t they? Although killing off the clientele wouldn’t exactly be good for busine— So… Pulled from her odd little reverie, Frances looks down at the young woman.

“I’m afraid it’s not very public in the chances of making the papers…” she begins, trailing off as she looks at her reflection. A slit may suit this, something demure but a little tantalising. Or for sheer practicality’s sake if she asks for it be fitted any tighter. “I’m doing a bit of a meet and greet, I suppose. Ingratiating myself with some of our fine public service members. Do you think going any shorter would be… too much?”

Allegra tilted her head, thought for a moment, and then took her fabric scissors cutting a couple inches up the skirt and pinning the fabric so it overlapped, lining up on the bias with the folded lapel on the suit jacket.  “That should give a bit of an illusion affect, make you look slimmer. As for going shorter, I can pin it up about an inch but any higher and the suit jacket will hit a bit strangely.”  Allegra took out more pins from the hedgehog pincushion she kept on the side table, marking up the new length.  “Public service members though, always good to see politicians supporting our first responders. I’ve got some friends in the...” She stopped herself, about to have said the Omegas, but that was definitely not the right thing to say. She cleared her throat, “I’ve got some friends who work on the front lines, first responders always work so hard it’s nice to see them getting support.”

Shocked was putting it lightly. Allegra was blindsided, completely dumbfounded, and more than a little enraged. She’d known for Cleo for years, a friend of her aunt’s and Allegra had assumed, up until this moment, a travel writer with all the international jetsetting she did.  But Allegra had also been searching for her mother for years. Ever since her Aunt Kimberly had finally gotten dial up for their house and she had discovered the wonders of an MSN search. Now the two were colliding in a ball of fire within Allegra’s mind. The woman who her aunt drank wine with in their living room, who gave her her first electric sewing machine for her 13th birthday. And the woman who abandoned Allegra on the streets of Hong Kong, who left her father, already living on the streets due to his mutations, with a baby swaddled in a purple blanket and barely a word of goodbye. They were the same woman, her name was Cleo, and she was sitting across the table from Allegra. She could feel Cleo’s life force coursing through energy channels and it was taking all her self restraint not to start draining it out of her, just so she could experience the kind of pain growing up parentless, the only asian child in her school, the only mutant in her town without the words to even explain what was happening to her. Gritting her teeth Allegra decided, “Start talking.”

cleopatra had always struggled when it came to emotional availability, it was the main reason she had stayed out of allegra’s life, with the exception of a few visits here and there. just like the parents that had turned their back on her, she was weak, she couldn’t cope with it. the idea of eventually losing her own child, it was something she didn’t think she’d be able to handle. 

she usually had to build up her courage before visiting - which meant she was caught off guard by the other’s presence. apparently, she hadn’t done a good job keeping tabs on the young woman. 

“it was selfish of me,” cleopatra spoke softly, “but i didn’t- i couldn’t be a mother, it wouldn’t have been fair to you,” she started to ramble, tripping over her words. this shouldn’t be happening, it wasn’t supposed to happen. “your father and i- we agreed it would be best for me to keep my distance,” she continued, this time biting down on her lip. “perhaps we can continue this - somewhere more private?”

Allegra sat lock jawed and silent the entire walk to her apartment. They had agreed to speak at her place since Cleo’s wasn’t even on this side of town. Sitting down on the over-stuffed turquoise couch she tried to gather the various thoughts that were swirling around in her head into a coherent sentence. “I have spent an...ungodly amount of time...trying to figure out where I came from, what actually made me...made me the way that I am.”  Her hands shook, it wasn’t from storing energy, she wished it was. She wished that she knew what to do with these emotions and questions and that Cleo didn’t have hundreds of years on her in knowing how to stay calm and collected.  “I’m not angry. Really, I’m not. In some way’s I’m actually incredibly excited to actually know you. Can you just...can you tell me about yourself?”

Allegra had nearly walked the whole of the institute’s grounds in the last forty-five minutes or so. She was on the lookout for any wilted flowers or drooping branches, anything she could give a little bit of life back into. Her tremors were getting worse and she had to expel some energy before it turned into a full blown migraine. Holding the energy she had transferred out of a would-be mugger a couple days ago was starting to put a serious strain on her system. Finally Allegra saw a tree with some patches of wood rot and sat up against the trunk. She opened her mind to the energy stream flowing through the tree and eventually located a patch of wilting roots.  Letting the energy flow out of her like a faucet she could immediately feel the tree stand slightly straighter and the roots unclench.  Eventually Allegra felt somebody watching her and her eyes snapped open, “What? This your first time seeing an energy healing?”

It was a new in, working some of the grounds of the institute. He was never very keen on the whole idea of the school for as long as he could remember, but they were paying him and well. Not to mention, he had no need to lug a hose across the yard on this job, and it made his life that much easier. It was like getting paid for less work in its own way. He had spent weeks keeping the ground around the school in check, cleaning up long forgotten patches of the yard that had fallen to the wayside. It was inevitable on such a big plot of land. Just the other week, he had stumbled across a half dead tree that he was sure he could salvage with the right stuff. At least, he wanted to, it was in a quiet spot, and the perfect place to get away from everyone else for a few hours. 

He was going to check on it again this week, and see what the real state of the tree was when he came up on a girl seated under the tree, watching it heal before his eyes. It was like nothing had ever happened to it in the first place. The girl caught him staring— that was on him. But, he glanced down at her and nodded. “It is, actually, that’s a new one. You’ll put me out of a job with abilities like that.” All Lachlan could do was water plants.

Allegra smirked, she was so used to the people at Xavier’s being unsurprised by her powers at this point, it had been two years after all.  The fact that this guy, she supposed the new groundskeeper, was impressed by her. Well, it does something for a girl’s ego.  “Your job’s safe I can promise you that, plants still need sunlight, humans still need food, we all need water. What I do that’s...critical care we’ll call it. Living off life force energy alone wouldn’t last you very long, we all need to do the more mundane things that keep us alive.”  Allegra paused for a moment before continuing, “I’m Allegra, on my second year here. Are you a new groundskeeper? What’s your name?”

The cherry on top of the cake that was currently Mari’s life could have been any number of things. Jack, Mark, Betty, Erik— the last person she expected to ruin her day even further was Allegra. Ruin might have been a strong word choice, but any complicated feeling felt like too much, and Allegra came with a lot of those feelings. 

It was incidental the way that they met, an injury and Mari being in the wrong place at the wrong time— or maybe the right place. It was those complicated feelings for sure. It shouldn’t have been, Allegra had saved her life. But, at the same time, she was an Xavier’s kid with an attitude at that. And Mari did not want to see any Xavier’s student, let alone Allegra. 

“I don’t want to hear a peep out of you,” Mari warns as she plops down on the bus bench across from her, not a single other empty seat to be found.

Mari was an interesting case to say the least. They had met two or three months ago, when Mari had stumbled into Allegra’s boutique half dead after seeing the mutants welcome sticker they kept on the back door.  She wanted to keep the mutants welcome sticker on the front door. But her boss, Hannah, dressed politicians, pundits, and various public personalities all of whom most likely wouldn’t step foot in a store that declared itself a safe space for mutants. Allegra had healed Mari that night, in the boutique, when she was the only one still working at nearly one in the morning.  Since then it’s been somewhat of a cycle, every few weeks Mari would track her down, once in a cafe, another time at work, and now as she waited for a bus to Brooklyn to pick up fabric for some new projects. Thankfully, when Mari came to her she generally wasn’t as depleted as the day they met, but she drained her life force alarmingly fast and Allegra could only imagine the number of fights she got in to drain herself so quickly.  Mari’s life force felt like heat energy, not quite fire, not quite electric, kind of like the warmth you feel from a sunbeam, expect the sunbeam was on fire. Curling a finger through Mari’s Allegra opened her mouth, then thought better of it, fully aware she was not above punching her in the face. She let the life force energy she had been storing from training yesterday flow into Mari and her life force intensified slowly, but eventually to the point that Allegra was sure she would be scorched once she walked away.  Standing up, she decided, “Next time either bring me a plant to drain or ask me if I have reserves, I’m not using my own life force on you.”
