Staying together but falling apart au
AU where Spamton thinks he's the reason Tenna is prophesied to die. Obviously, his benefactor is powerful, who says they don't have the power to change or add to the prophecy?
After Spamton signs the contract he's told of Tenna's part in the prophecy. Why would they tell him now unless it's his punishment for breaking the rules?
Tenna's going to die and it's all his fault.
The added stress, guilt, and piece of knowledge he shouldn't know is was snaps something in Spamton's mind.
He smashes the phone. Tenna comes running at the noise and freezes. How does he react to Spamton destroying his most prized possession?
Something shines in Spamton's eyes that Tenna can't quite identify as he holds Tenna's face with an impossibly wide smile. Hysterically promising everything is going to be alright, that he won't let anything happen to Tenna, he'll fix this.
Tenna's only conclusion is the person on the phone threatened Tenna. If Spamton were more coherent Tenna would probably be ecstatic Spamton chose him over the phone when it counted.
Tenna can understand why Spamton is so out of it. Someone he relied on betrayed and abandoned him. Tenna doesn't even want to think his he'd be if Spamton did that to him.
Tenna heard a crack. Did Spamton step on a piece of broken phone?
Then Tenna looks at Spamton's face, really looks at it. Lines splitting down his jaw, lips peeling back, skin hardening into some kind of… plastic? Ceramic? Bone?
Oh god. Spamton's eyes are melting out of their sockets and Spamton doesn't even seem to notice. Tenna calls for help as he holds Spamton close. As if he can hold him together.
Spamton takes it as Tenna being scared of the prophecy and keeps trying to comfort him as his voice starts glitching and shrieking.
Spamton doesn't panic until they try to take him from Tenna. Tenna comes with and keeps talking to calm him.
Tenna doesn't understand how no one knows what's wrong or how to help Spamton. Apparently the transformation did hurt, but he's not registering it. Tenna doesn't know if he should be grateful Spamton's not in pain or mourn his kids of reality.
Spamton's now little more than a echo of himself and Tenna can only blame himself. It can't be a coincidence this happened after Spamton signed, not with how hesitant Spamton had been about it.
All Tenna can do is try to make up for it by being there for Spamton now.
Spamton is still capable, which isn't great because he's not able to, or refuses to, think through his words and actions. Liked he's completely lost his filter. …Or maybe a different one was added?
He's calmed down since it first happened, now only needing a radio to keep in contact with Tenna instead of constantly clinging to him. He loves Spamton but he still has a show to run. …And it's harder to ignore a problem as it constantly stares you, lovingly, in the face
The moments of lucidity are the worst. The short glimpses of the man Spamton was. He always looks so tired. Trying to reassure Tenna it was his own choice, he just didn't understand the consequences.
It would be easier if Spamton hated him.
