â My, so you did remember. Thank you Tsukasa-chan~ âȘ â
âOf course. I would never be so irresponsible as to forget, unlike a certain Leader of ours.â
â Ara ara⊠Is it really a birthday if youâre not even alive anymore? â
âHappy birthday to you, Narukami-senpaiâȘ.â
At the slight bow, he instinctively returned the gesture albeit hesitantly.
Suou Tsukasaâthe name sounded Japanese⊠completely foreign, so as he had expected, this was just a regular human. He wasnât even a distant relative, yet still held disturbing likeness in appearance⊠well, this wasnât the first time such a thing has happened, but he never expected for there to be more than one person who looked this alike to him.
Speaking of names, though⊠well, it was about time he figuratively buried himself in the figurative hole he found himself in.
He braced himself for the obvious reaction.
With a straight face, he answers, âItâs⊠Americano Beans.â
Americano Beans, huh. It was a strange name indeed. They must have had a parent that loved coffee enough to name their kid after it. But a name was a name, and it was just downright disrespectful to make fun of someoneâs name.Â
Tsukasa would know, especially with all these upperclassmen who insisted on calling him by tasteless nicknames and a certain person who wouldnât bother to remember his name at all.Â
Beans though, he couldnât remember the family name of Beans from anywhere at all. Maybe they werenât related after all.Â
âBeans-san, is it? What is it that I can help you with?â
Playing chest against himself had proven to be the most efficient way for Yamato to get his thoughts in order again and again. Longing for peace of mind he had purchased this chess set today. It wasnât like any of the chest sets he had owned while still alive. It was but a cheap wooden chess set, but it got the job done.Â
As Yamato played against himself at Star Gardens he quickly found what he had been longing for. Recognizing chess patterns gave him comfort. Although many of his memories had been lost, it seemed like all his time studying chess hadnât been taken from him. He remembered.Â
He had just decided on his next move when someone suddenly asked for his attention. Yamatoâs gaze shifted, his eyes falling on a red-haired boy whose face he had never seen before. It seemed the boy wanted to play a match against him.
Seeing no harm done in playing a match against a stranger, Yamato gestured for the other to take place. In the same motion, Yamato began to place the chess pieces back to their original positions.Â
âHotsuin Yamato,â he spoke, his voice monotone as he got the introductions out of the way. âA pleasure.â
Chess, what a nostalgic game. Tsukasa also remembered when he would play against himself as practice. It was one of the hobbies he had grown fond of when his parents were on their usual business trips.Â
He gave the other a nod. âSuou Tsukasa. Nice to meet you.â
âHotsuin-san, do you play this game often too? It seemed like you were close to checkmate just now.â
Tsukasa took a seat across from Yamato. The pieces were already arranged into their original places, with the white side being his and black being Yamatoâs.Â
âThe black king... how nostalgic.â
Tsukasa found himself thinking out loud. Truly nostalgic indeed. He was suddenly reminded about the irresponsible leader of his unit. The black king who had given judgement to the unit...
Shaking off his thoughts, Tsukasa picked up the white knight piece and moved it so that it was now defending a pawn.Â
What kind of poor sheltered life did this child have?
âNo⊠you only need the cup.â He held up one to show Tsukasa. âYou take off the lid, pour boiled water in and then leave it for three minutes.â Either way, that sounded simple enough, rightâŠ?
âI would show you, but my kettle is in my room.â
Ah yes, if there was anything Tsukasaâs parents taught him correctly, it was donât go with strangers to their homes.Â
âOnly three minutes? Thatâs awfully convenient... but for price and convenience this kind of product is certainly harsh on oneâs health, am I correct?â
âBut perhaps for the time being, I too shall indulge in such commoner practices~âȘ.â
He paused and turned to Shinjuurou.
âThank you for your assistance. May I know your name?â
:D
   â⊠Red? Prince? Red Prince?â
âThat is a marvelous nickname indeed.â
I bought a cat.
SON WHERE DID YOU GET SUCH MONEY OUR FAMILY IS POOR.
âEeeh⊠is that so~? What did you name the cute little kitten, Tsukasa dear?â
I robbed a bank with Amel what do you think.
âIts name is Riida.â
â Ah, you know how to warm my heart; I just love capable and hardworking boys like you, Tsukasa-chan. When push comes to shove Iâll be counting on you to protect your onee-chan as well, okay? â â
âYes, of course. Fear not Narukami-senpai, for I, Suou Tsukasa shall protect you with my life.â

He knows for sure that he is an only child, so the possibility of something like a long lost sibling is thrown out the window as a ridiculous fancy. Still, even if it wasnât possible, there were multiple instances in the past, when he was alive and had felt particularly lonely on a night away from home, where he imagined impossible scenarios of having a younger sibling whom he would, without a doubt, pamper and spoil.
Again, those were only silly dreams that could never, and would never, become reality.
All this over spotting someone who held an uncanny resemblance to him.
Well, he had figuratively dug himself a pretty nice hole by approaching this stranger solely because he had been drawn in by their red hair.
ââŠYou, whatâs your name?â
Tsukasa had always been an only child. That was the reason why he had been so spoiled by his parents. At the same time, he had also wished to have a sibling sometimes. Especially during those days where his parents were on their usual business trips, and he was left at home all alone.Â
Although, he was quite stunned when approached by someone who looked like they could be his sibling. The resemblance was uncanny.Â
Caught in his thinking, Tsukasa almost forgot to reply. Bowing slightly, he gave his introduction.
âI am Suou Tsukasa. Might I ask for your name as well?â
Perhaps they were possibly a relative?
Tsukasa knew he shouldnât wander too far from residential area, just in case he got lost. This time he probably wouldnât get so lucky as to run into someone that he was acquainted with. But still, he couldnât help but wonder what kind of marvels Amaranth held.
This garden for one was simply marvelous.Â
Tsukasa had read that it was much more beautiful during the night, but he shouldnât risk running around at night, so a walk during the day it was. It was during this walk that he stumbled among something- or rather someone who caught his attention.
An attractive silver haired boy with an exceptional aura was sitting among the benches. Surely he wasnât just someone normal. His bright purple eyes were fixed on the item in front of him. A chessboard. Tsukasa couldnât resist walking over. It had been a while since he had a good chess match.
âSorry for the interruption, but would you mind if I join you in this game?â
â My, I guess my excitement was a bit too much⊠But how can I not be happy to see my cute kouhai safe and well? â
âYou worry too much Narukami-senpai. Iâm not some helpless child. If it came to the worst case scenario, I could always defend myself with a bow and arrow.â
â Ara, thereâs no need to be shy, Tsukasa-chan. Just let your onee-chan stay like this for a bit; itâs very soothing. This whole thing has been giving me so many worries, Iâll end up getting wrinkles at a young age! â
âAhh Narukami-senpai youâre hanging on too tight. I canât breathe. Please let us resolve our problems in a more befitting manner.â
Seriously? There was a person out here that was able to ask this kind of question? Were they sheltered? Rich? Maybe that meant something that Shinjuurou could take advantage of if he really wanted to.
âTheyâre noodles.â He explained shorty, having turned his head to eye Tsukasa by now. â⊠In a cup.â
Because really, didnât the name speak enough for itself? Shinjuurou was puzzled by the otherâs confusion. There wasnât much he could say about cup noodles.
âYou pour boiled water into them. Thatâs all.â
Just noodles in a cup? It couldnât be that simple right? There had to be more to it right??
âBut wouldnât the noodles spoil if they were to be stored for that long?â
Of course he wasnât thinking that there were dry noodles in the cup. The concept of noodles that Tsukasa had grown up knowing were the freshly made ones. He just couldnât wrap his head around the ânoodles in a cupâ that Shinjuurou was talking about.
âThatâs all? You donât need to cook it in a pot?â
What is this feeling that something small and precious has come to town? Could it be? Could it really be?
     â Tsukasa-chan~. âȘ  â
âNarukami-senpai I am excited to see you too, but please stop touching me like that.â
Ah yes! Dandy Mart. One of Amaranthâs cutest highlights. Need some food? Step right up! Want to see a cute dandelion mascot dance outside of the store? Youâre at the right address.
Everything was just fine and dandy.
Well, probably. Not like Shinjuurou agreed. He looked to the shelves in deep thought, eyeing the collection of cup noodles that the shop had to offer. Was today a beef day? Or a chicken day? The detective was low on funds, so he couldnât afford to make the wrong choice here.
A mart. This was where commoners went to buy their food right? Perhaps Tsukasa could find something interesting here. Trying out commoner food was always interesting. There were always so many varieties of tastes that he had never eaten before.
Well itâs not like he could afford anything else right now.Â
Tsukasaâs pad of checks had gone missing somehow between his travel from home to.. here. Wherever this world was. Right now he only had a few coins on him and his stomach growled.Â
Luckily, Tsukasa found someone who was staring intently at the products on the shelf. Someone with a deep love of.... âcup noodlesâ perhaps? Maybe they would be able to help him.
âExcuse me? May I take up a bit of your time? Could you please explain to me what these âcup noodlesâ are?â
