tobioshinohara:
Si-Hoo’s response, like all his others, proves to be infuriating, and Tobio finds himself puffing an irritated sigh. He had thought of Si-Hoo as weird before, what with the tattoos and the lilt and the cherry candy, but now he’s concerned that the boy really does fancy himself a detective. He wants to grab him by the shoulders and shake him until he acknowledges that this isn’t some news program, and Tobio isn’t about to provide some earth shattering scoop, but instead, he just rolls his eyes.
“Everybody has secrets, you mongrel. That’s a byproduct of being human; nobody is an open book. And if you’re suspicious of everyone with nice hair, I have some bad news for you; I saw some other people here with well-maintained hairstyles. Why don’t you go harass the boy with the long white braid, hm?”
“…Though, I guess you’re implying you don’t have any secrets of your own, with that ratty mane.”
Stealing the candy had only been something Tobio had done on a whim - something to prod at Si-Hoo even more than he already was - but seeing his smile fade cues him in on the fact that stealing candy from this baby takes all his power away.
(To any onlookers, this might have been interpreted as a feud between enemies, and while Tobio supposes that he does dislike Si-Hoo - rather strongly, in fact - there’s also something about the exchange that he likes. Knocking smug boys down a few pegs is always a good time.)
“Of course the pleasure is yours. There’s no universe in which I’d actually be pleased to be around you. This is where I’d ordinarily introduce myself as Tobio Shinohara, but you, Lee-”
He pauses, briefly, to slot the candy back in Si-Hoo’s mouth.
“…can call me ‘your majesty’.”
The first thing that makes Si-Hoo frown is the fact that Tobio doesn’t seem phased by Si-Hoo’s criticism- and the second thing is that he doesn’t understand an obscure Mean Girls reference that Si-Hoo only knew because of his sister.
(It was a pretty funny movie, though, if you like trashy movies.)
However, he doesn’t let himself focus on that, instead focusing on the more important part of that conversation- and quietly, he laughs, flipping his notebook open once again like only the cheesiest of detectives. He begins to write more, though this time it’s more commentary- how Tobio stands, how he folds his arms, how often he blinks- it’s almost obsessive.
(But, hey, it matches your notes on everyone else, Si-Hoo.)
“Ah, that’s where your wrong, angelface- ‘m full of secrets. My entire career is based on ‘em. And just b’cause you’ve got a few- probably just that y’come from fake money, yeah? Daddy probably won a lottery ticket, but y’want t’pretend that y’rich? That’s a good secret, mm?”
Tobio’s smirking at him, and it makes Si-Hoo frustrated, and so, he scowls- and, quietly, pulls out another lollipop and sticks it in his mouth, somehow relaxing afterward. Tobio seems to smile at him like he knows something Si-Hoo doesn’t, and it’s infuriating. However, his smile never wavers, even as Tobio instructs him to refer to him as royalty.
(As if.)
However, once Tobio returns the candy, he’s left with two- and ends up idly twirling one in one hand.
(Nice. Playing it cool, Si-Hoo.)
“Is that a challenge, babydoll? ‘m sure I can give y’plenty t’be pleased about. Snngrk. But, ah, your majesty? How about ttong-gae?”
