attention is not just nice; it’s a basic human need. humans need positive attention. they need it like they need sleep, or clothes, or shelter. when humans only receive negative attention - or no attention at all - it hurts them. breaks them over time. and, like a starving person stealing food out of desperation, a person starved of positive attention will do drastic things in order to get the attention they are lacking. it’s pretty easy to get annoyed at someone who is clearly trying to steer attention towards themselves. but maybe it will help you not be so quick to judge or get annoyed at them if you can stop yourself and say “maybe they’re just not getting the positive attention they need”. it doesn’t mean you have to be the person to provide that attention; it just gives you a mechanism to defend yourself from hating someone needlessly. and maybe it will even help you get in touch with your own need for attention, as well. good things will come from that.
