Find out how on Wednesday, November 29th, 7 pm, at the Artful Dodger, 1631 11th Avenue, Regina.

Your hosts, Permaculture Regina, will begin the conversation through a screening of the energizing documentary Cultivating Calgary’s Local Food Resiliency (67 minutes), followed by a discussion.

Share your accomplishments and challenges from this summer, your ideas for your home and yard and for local food production. Enjoy a beverage and socializing with others!

Note that the Artful Dodger is moving, so come out and enjoy this venue on 11th Avenue one more time.

Together, we can envision a bold future where we can increase our local food production, reduce our ecological footprint and protect ecosystems, build community, have fun and eat delicious food!

About Jenine: Jenine is studying to become a herbalist at the Herbal Academy of New England and runs a permaculture design company called Edible Landscapes. She also does public speaking and hosts workshops at her farm on foraging and wildcrafting. Jenine has a BSc in Physics and received her Permaculture Design Certificate from Geoff Lawton in 2014.

We have chosen The One-Straw Revolution by Masanobu Fukuoka as our next book.

We will also discuss future field trips including comparing well maintained and badly maintained pastures and visiting Prairie Cherry Orchards near Lumsden, and we welcome any other ideas floating around out there…

Permaculture Book Club meets once a month, on Sunday afternoons. We choose a book to read and then meet to exchange ideas and sometimes even talk about the book. Sometimes we plan an excursion. We have travelled to Craik, toured the Regina Waste Water Treatment Plant and gone to Buffalo Pound to tour the Water Treatment Plant. So far we have read 4 books: Introduction to Permaculture by Bill Mollison; Rainwater Harvesting for Drylands and Beyond Vol. 1 by Brad Lancaster; The Humanure Handbook by Joseph Jenkins; and Urban Homesteading by Rachel Kaplan with Ruby Blume. We will leave Regina at 11:45 am on Friday, travel for one hour to the Plant, spend two hours touring the Plant, and return to Regina before 5 pm.

We will learn about the current water shortage, learn vital information about our bio-region, learn about where our water comes from, and where it goes.

Saskatchewan Solar Tour

9am - 6pm, Bus departs from Candy Cane Park in Regina at 9am and Noon

Saskatchewan Solar Tours is having its 6th annual tour on Saturday June 20, 2015. Canada's longest running solar bus tour showcases the most innovative applications of solar technology used for producing electricity and heat. Solar energy systems featured this year include passive solar, photovoltaics (electricity), solar hot water, a solar wall which heats air, and up- and downstream wind generators. These systems are used in residential, commercial, educational and agricultural settings.

The morning tour will visit sites in Regina. The afternoon tour will be heading to Craik after brief stops at excellent sites in Lumsden and Aylesbury. In Craik we will visit a solar farm, the Eco-Centre, and the eco-village. The bus is air-conditioned and has a bathroom. There will be door prizes and all carbon emissions will be offset.

Tickets for the tours are $20 for the morning, $30 for the afternoon, or $40 for the whole day. Visit their Facebook page here for more information.

Nature Conservancy of Canada Volunteer Events

The Nature Conservancy of Canada is holding Conservation Volunteers events across the country and will be at eight different locations in Saskatchewan throughout the spring and summer including Saskatoon, Regina, Edenwold, Mortlach, Keeler, Kayville, Shaunavon, and Asquith.

We will explore positive solutions to build resilience, and discuss ideas such as sharing skills and resources (how to set up a neighbourhood compost or tool library); connecting with our neighbours (organizing block parties), beautifying our neighbourhoods (revitalizing greenspaces), and more! Green Drinks Regina: Spring Permaculture Edition

To get everyone inspired for spring the next Green Drinks on Wednesday March 4th from 6-8pm will feature a movie screening of "Adventures in Permaculture". The movie gives a nice introduction to permaculture and its benefits. After the movie (45min) a few people from Permaculture Regina will speak about what their group does and about their upcoming events. Then folks from the Prairie Spruce Commons cohousing project will speak about the permaculture related features of their building (including grey water recycling, roof top gardens, and large scale composting). There will also be time for a general discussion about permaculture and possible future projects in Regina. As always, the presentation will start at about 6pm and you are most welcome to come and enjoy some great conversations and delicious food and drinks beforehand. Come by and have supper and stay for awhile or stop by for a few minutes and grab a coffee or a tea! Abstractions Cafe is keeping the restaurant open for us with their yummy world-wide inspired cuisine. Hope you can join us! > What is Green Drinks? Green Drinks is an informal, come-and-go gathering of environmental professionals, students, and citizens interested in sustainability. Also note that Green Drinks Regina is looking for organizations to host Green Drinks each month.
