Admirable

A true follower of Jesus Christ;

But please, there’s no need to be a martyr.

He continues to steal bricks from your temple, and stands back to watch you collapse pillar by pillar.

No support : no standing

Yet, he is swept away with shock, when each of your rooms fill with rubble.

And you no longer provide refuge, no more shelter from the rain.

May he be appalled at his own shame.

Psalm 40:14-15

14 May all who want to take my life be put to shame and confusion; may all who desire my ruin be turned back in disgrace.

15 May those who say to me, “Aha! Aha!” be appalled at their own shame.

That Stupid Smile

Her stupid smile arrives before she does like it forgot how to knock and never learned any manners

It tilts sideways as if it knows something the rest of us missed and is too polite, or too cruel, to explain

It ruins seriousness Destroys good arguments Makes doors out of walls I spent years building

I call it stupid because I don’t have a better word for something that disarms me without even trying

Because intelligence has plans and her smile just shows up barefoot and uninvited and suddenly I’m laughing too

If that’s stupid then it’s the cleverest ting I’ve ever lost my footing to

Hollow spines threaten to pierce your skin, if you even think of walking away.

Haughty eyes and screw tight lips

Alone at Night, a poem

My skin becomes ice at the jagged bite 

Of cold, hungry moonlight. 

The fangs pierce flesh and bone,

Gnawing away at ancient stone. 

But if I dare to resist, push or pull,

It would peel the gold from my skull.

I close my eyes, allowing light to flow

As sharply or as smoothly as it can go.

When my eyes flutter open, my skin warms,

And there are no bite marks on my arms.

But as I gaze into the shadowed lake,

I see the silvery glint of something

Waiting for a soul to take.
