Team Dream x Mavic Crossmax SL x Stinner Frameworks
I was already a fan of Stinner long before this project. After getting to know Aaron better over the last year and doing a bit of design work for him, I was ready to pull the trigger. Mavic asked me to find a builder to create a concept mtb for their new Crossmax SL Pro & the stars aligned.
Arron and I discussed a bike that would be great for all-mountain riding, bike packing & possibly even touring. We both looked at differing geometry’s for all 3 types of riding and found a lot of similarities. The goal was to build a bike to be ideal for all 3, with little to no sacrifice. I personally wanted a bike that I could pack with with a weekends worth of gear, that would ride comfortably under load, that you can shred once the bags are removed. After Chad from Mavic heard about the bike he was pretty jealous! He really wanted one…so we went ahead & made him a 650b version!
Basically, these bikes can both be 3-in-1, so by building this bike I am eliminating two potential future bike purchases…or at least that is the excuse I will tell my girlfriend when she sees another bike roll into our tiny (bicycle filled) apartment next week. We also added Shimano XTR DI2 to my bike & I am really interested to see how it handles under load. I have never really bike packed (unless you count riding a cx bike with a backpack). I’m pretty excited :)
As far as paint/deign goes, I wanted to play on the classic DayGlo color gradients of the 90’s mtb era. I have always shied away from bike paint but figured this project would be a fun time to give it a try. My initial designs seemed to be pretty impossible to mask based on the opinions of some of the industries best painters. I found Jordan Low (Thanks Adria) and he helped with a realistic compromise. The end result is a collaborative interpretation between the two of us. I am really happy with the end result and look forward to more projects like this in the future.
Thanks again to Mavic, Aaron/Chris at Stinner, Jordan Low, Fox, Thomson, Shimano, Ergon & everyone else who helped make these two bikes happen.
