Something that I really hope femmes know, especially younger femmes and femmes new to being femme, is that in our pursuit to fulfill our community role in trying to uplift and support the community, we do not have to set ourselves on fire to do that. Not emotionally, not sexually, not financially.

We’re allowed to have boundaries. We’re allowed to say no. We’re allowed to revoke help we’ve been giving if it hurts us. We’re allowed to say we’ve done our best or tried hard enough.

And we’re allowed to realize that the person or people we’ve been helping aren’t good for us.

Fuck that sunken cost fallacy. We do not need to suffer to prove ourselves.

For what it’s worth: it happened to me. It happened to my wife. It’s happened to my friends. It’s happened to mutuals of mine.

Sometimes by the same person who managed to leverage community members with popularity to shield himself. And sometimes this person isn’t a romantic partner. Sometimes it’s someone you thought was your friend.

And sometimes they wield their influence and social media alliances like a cudgel to stop people from speaking out about the harm they’ve caused. We have to be open to the fact that sometimes people use our community against us, use our terms to hide behind and our history, and they do it to silence the people they’ve hurt.

It’s got to stop. So if you know someone like this, please be brave enough to let people you see them interacting with know how they treat others. I wish I had been braver over the last year about this.

I think once you’ve hurt the majority of the femmes in a community, pushed them out of the community and/or pressured them into silence, you shouldn’t get to paint yourself as the innocent tortured hero anymore, but that’s just my two cents on the issue

I have such a complicated relationship with tumblr at this point. I kind of want to delete my blog. I regret sharing so much of myself, I regret pouring myself out. I genuinely think my mental state would have been better if id never started here, but also this is the place where I started unpacking my worldview at 12. The place I learned to be a femme. It shaped my humor in ways ill never recover from. I met so many cool people. Wasn't it fun? I had fun. I wish I could stay longer but I don't know if I will.
