I'm so glad that abhorrent update got rolled back. It should have never been put out in the first place. But to be clear @tumblr, nobody on this site cares about reblogs that "gives every voice in a chain the credit it deserves." Seriously, think about every iconic tumblr post out there. The weed smoking girlfriends, the colour of the sky, etc. Blaiz and her Hello Kitty tattoo are famous because users on this site care more about committing to the bit than they do about being at the top of the chain. This isn't a popularity contest. Nobody cares who's reblog of OP's post gets the most notes. And even if an individual did care about seeing the impact of their reblog, they already get notified every time someone makes an addition down the chain from them. Nobody, and I mean nobody, is here because they want "credit". They're here because the inability to purposefully gain popularity or steal attention from other blogs is just about the only thing that makes this site more bearable to use than others. Don't try to fix the one part of your site that isn't broken.
this. tumblr is (and has been) the very last hope for “early modern media.” it gives us the ability to publish publicly, without the psychological factors that come with doing so with literally any other platform. i haven’t loved on this & kept it a secret since i was fifteen to get famous or to become an influencer, i haven’t even written anything with the mindset that others will consume it. there’s no comparisons to these feeds, just inspiration. its a mindless, quiet channel of thought, of nostalgia, of vulnerability. that’s the entire point.
tonight felt hard.
it’s the day before Valentine’s Day. one of my words for this year is “celebrate,” and lately i have been feeling each of the thirteen show up in their own unique ways. in the thick of a stomach flu, i decided I’d host a valentines party this year, a small one for myself, my three friends, and our children. i am known to enjoy hosting a party, i did it fairly often in Athens, but this would be my first in Texas. everything was perfect. perfect decor, perfect food, perfect theme. bean was good, went off to bed, and i had some time with my new friends. we laughed, made crafts for our children & our husbands, & once they left, I immediately got to cleaning everything up.
it wasn’t until then that it hit me like a bus.
i sat down in the chair in the dining room & turned on kate bush and cried. i have never cleaned up a party that I’ve thrown all on my own. i have always had help from my mom, my family, & friends. i love these new friends & am working hard to grow these friendships, but that feeling, that sting, ruminated. suddenly it felt like the first time i have felt the cost of being a military wife. you build your community as you go and you make new friends, but you don’t forget your old ones either. the party was so sweet, simple, & heartfelt. it just wasn’t in my actual home, my family, my pencil tower….
everything feels so different. she’s changing every day & becoming more of a person, i feel weird that i grieve it already. we’re told i will not be moving home for summer like i had planned, which certainly adds some weight to my heart. he’s working more, as am i. time keeps going, and we are growing up. i miss my mom. i miss my sister, and my friends. i miss trees, and green, and piper in the backyard. i miss home.
all of this to say, after a moment of tears, i made myself some water, and got into bed. i will remember that it is different, and that may feel hard, but it’s okay. i am grateful for these new friends & their support, and i am proud of myself for trying. it’s okay that it feels sad, too. we all struggle out here, away from our families.
just going to keep going.

time for my new year's post, about twenty days late.
2025 was the year i started to see in color. the year i conquered some of my most challenging moments, the year that i dug deep into myself, my heart, my core. the year that i found my purpose. and that purpose, is her.
i think about a year ago, i was writing about my hopes & dreams of becoming a mother. i had no idea that motherhood was to find me soon & fast, and it was going to bring the greatest gift that i could ever receive.
we moved across the country a few times, i lived away from my family and friends for the first time, and explored new things. i battled depression for a little bit, fought it (and some intense morning sickness), moved forward, and found joy in more little things, like the cherry blossom tree outside of our little apartment in sierra vista. i learned that i love him so much deeper than i could ever imagine, and that time with family is precious. i cried in a few airports, i felt my heart burst, and i accessed a feeling that i have never, ever, felt before in my life. i felt wholeness. it was a harder year, with the most incredible reward.
i brought a baby into this world, watched my parents become grandparents, and felt my heart heal in ways that i didn't even know it needed to. i had another nostalgic winter (as an adult) and rediscovered what it means to be home.
now sitting here in late January, with her sleeping in her crib next to me, life seems so simple. everything that i held so close to my heart before, the memories, the years, the people, it all led to her. every decision, every interaction, all of it, brought her to me. i could not be more grateful.
the feeling reminds me of the one i would channel over and over again at 15, 17, 18, 20. the deep feeling of feeling home. like when you know you are in the right place, at the right time, and you can embrace it with everything.
i hope this year brings more of what we have found this year. more joy, home, peace, & creativity. it feels like a year of promise.
& for my maren, i hope it brings magic.
with all my heart,
a brand new perspective
