my love, my love not, my dream and my heart,
he was always just that: a dream
his voice was the sea, and i was swept under by its waves,
closing my eyes to the truths underneath
i had never believed in anything like i had believed in him, in the promises he made;
i’d have given anything for some light, any light,
but he had none to give
so i pretended horns were halos & black holes were stars
loneliness is a terrible thing
you go too fast for me, crowley.
@feraladoration‘s tags were just too good I’m sorry
how many scenes had to be redone because David Tennant’s contacts would twist?
None. We fixed it in CGI.
Then why didnt his pupils dilate even once?
*sobs*
Because when they did, he was wearing shades, and you didn’t notice.
(Also, snakes aren’t cats. Their eyes aren’t dilating to tell you what they are thinking and feeling. While snake eyes dilate, in my experience, they mostly do it if it’s getting dark, or if they are going to attack.)
I work in a zoo (usually in the reptile section) and I can confirm this statement, and also add a few interesting little tidbits for anyone out there who might find this stuff interesting:
- You can get snakes with rounded pupils, but these snakes are commonly Diurnal (meaning they are most active during daylight hours). Nocturnal (active during night hours) snakes are most likely to have large eyes with elliptical pupils (like we see on Crowley)
- Elliptical pupils can dilate under certain circumstances but its not as common as a cats pupils going wide because they see something they want to chase. Typically the pupil will dilate when it is attempting to gather as much light as possible, so while it’s out at night.
- Nocturnal snakes also have a sort of lense they developed that sits over the eye which allows them to let UV light in. They can basically see in the dark.
- This means their eyesight during the day isn’t the best either, they’re not exactly evolved for it.
- another time you’ll see their pupils dilate is when they are actively hunting something. This again is a way of letting as much light in as possible. So snakes pupils will dilate just before it strikes, as its really trying to hone in on its prey.
- Finally a last little bit of info people might find interesting, there was a study conducted recently that investigated the visual pigments in the rods and cones of a snakes eye to determine what colours they can see. The result of this study indicated that snakes possess three visual pigments and are dichromatic during daylight hours. They only see two primary colours where most humans see three. Obviously we can’t tell which they see, just that there’s only two.
So have fun with that information, folks!
It’s not often my fandoms and my animal degree cross paths but boy it sure is fun when it happens!
And at least demons dance. Not what you’d call good dancing, though.
Bonus: epic bts of this scene
Crowley: [sees Newt's license plate] "Dick Turpin? Wasn't he a highway man, 'bout seventeen hundred something?"
Aziraphale: "I think you're right. I wonder why - ... (GASP!) Oh! Because whereever it goes, it holds up traffic!!"

I think Good Omens is so popular with the gay community because we always see the start of lgbt love stories, but along they way get muddled by drama and fights and deaths. We’re always given the passionate start of gay relationships but even when they do get a happy ending its so hard to know what that looks like. There’s so much still to face, family conflict, general prejudice, etc.
Then this show comes around and shows us a relationship (though not confirmed romantic, heavily implied or at the very least symbolic of a lgbt relationship) 6000 years in the making and still happy. It’s not as common to see older openly gay couples in public as it is with straights. Theyre there of course but society still isn’t at a point to fully accept them displaying their love. In Crowley and Aziraphale we’re given a show that isn’t without conflict, but the conflict has nothing to do with their relationship. They’re ok, together they’re always ok. In fact, they’re fighting because 6000 years wasn’t enough together, they still want to get crepes in paris and bicker about proper driving speed. They’re lives are comfortable together— safe— and they like it that way.
I think for a lot of kids it’s hard to imagine a time past the turmoil of being young and gay. Youth for us is full of risks: coming out, facing harmful opinions, and being doubted of your identity. And though Good Omens has a great plot and lots of fun ideas I think at the end of the day Ineffable Husbands are just,,, so nice to see all on their own. They represent hope of a time when things are all figured out and we can finally just exist.
