Yesterday my conservative parents were Shocked and Horrified that the UHC CEO was murdered. Thoughts and prayers etc. I couldn’t make a single joke. It wouldn’t have gone over well. Tragic
Tonight my folks were ranting about how their new insurance denied my dad one medication unless he tried another medication first, then denied that medication because his recent blood tests indicated he didn’t need any medication, never mind that this a direct result of my dad being on the original medication for years
So I chimed in “kinda makes sense that someone went and 86’d the United guy, huh”
And I got to watch the wheels spin in his head for a few seconds before scoffing and saying “yeah. Guess it does”

imagine how much more fucked up the history of the world would be if eating someone's brains reliably conferred on you their memory and knowledge
So, some of cultures believed this, and more believed that eating their flesh conferred their strength. And you know what? It didn't lead to people killing each other to eat them.
What happened was that they'd eat their enemies after battle - the ones that they killed. And they'd eat their loved ones after they died so that their loved ones would live on through them.
Importantly - these were cultures that weren't wrapped up in capitalism, so there wasn't a scarcity mentality. Their fellows honored them in life and then honored them in death through ritualized cannibalism.
tl;dr: The history of the world would be fucked up with this *only because* of capitalism. Cultures have believed things similar to this and it didn't lead to murder, it lead only to honor.
