Autumn looked at him from the corner of her eye, nervous as to what his reaction might be to the words that were flowing out of her mouth. She couldn’t help but be nervous about everything. The last time she’d opened up to anyone it wound up with everyone in the school shutting her out. She was like a makeshift Harriet The Spy. "Well, I suppose you’ll just have to find out for yourself." She teased him a bit but really was using it more as a way to direct the conversation away from her. "Considering my insomnia, that will be delightful." His next question made her stop in her tracks, she shoved a strand of hair behind her ear. “Basically…I come from a really good family. I mean everyone is great but umh, I had some friends in high school that turned no me and well…no one in my old town talked to me except my family.”
Honestly, he hadn't been surprised by her turning the conversation away from herself. Most people did that. But when they did, it meant they were hiding something or afraid of being judged. Peter only knew that because that's what he always did. He had been looking ahead and didn't notice her stop until he turned to listen to her. He slowed to a stop and turned to face her. His smile faded into a solemn sort of look, understanding taking control. He took a few steps closer to her and said, "Oh...I didn't mean to, uh pry like that. I'm so sorry that happened. People are terrible, especially in high school." He wasn't really sure what to do or say, since he didn't exactly have a ton of experience in the friend department. He turned back to stand beside her and held out his arm. "I don't have much experience as far as friends go, but I won't let that happen to you again. On my honor as a Wolffe." With that, he held out his arm for her to take. "And now for your new life to begin. Shall we?" And he led her toward the old abandoned lighthouse that lay ahead.
