Brief history of my musical career
You cannot have future, if you forget about your past. So just for shits and giggles, here we go!
Got my first guitar and was desperate to find a band. Nothing special happened.
Then at the end of 2008 I found an ad for a guitarist in a band, Sïoux Falls. I got the job.
Well that didn't last for long and we played not a single gig. But it was my first real band. In the next February the band split in half and we decided to form our own group with the drummer, Johnny. (I also changed my hair color from black to blonde. Cool.) The band was called Tragic Gunns (Tragic Gunner at first). Our line-up changed constantly.
Had our first gig already in May.
After few gigs we had found a bassist (Nickey) and lead guitarist (Lany) perfect for the band. But on every gig we had different vocalist. They came and went and it was frustrating. It seemed hard to find someone with a decent voice and band-fitting style. At rehearsals we had been jamming songs with me on the vocals. I never was that good of a singer, but still better than the others we had. So I ditched that guitar and took over the place behind the mic. It was supposed to be just temporary, but look what happened! We recorded our first EP, Stockholm Prostidudes.
Nickey was actually at first our singer but it didn't work. He came back to play bass and later moved on to the guitar, when we found new bass player, Dave. And somewhere between we even made it to the local newspaper. That felt huge.
We played lots of gigs and had fun. Most notably Tavastia, Helsinki and Finnair Stadion. Our set consisted of mostly our own songs, but there was always one or more songs by Hanoi Rocks.
In the 2010 we recorded our second EP.
Then in the end of the 2010 Lany left the group and it was time to find a new lead guitarist. Enter Mr. Jones! He really raised the bar and our live shows got even crazier.
TG's first year we played only 5 gigs. But going to the summer of '11, we had played already 42 gigs in total. But things had started to fall apart. Dave felt he couldn't stay anymore. So he found new rhythm guitarist and drummer. He lured me and Mr. Jones with him. After all, none of us had fun anymore so in the end it was easy to leave.
That's what came next. Only difference to TG was Aladar (2nd guitarist) and Joe (drums). We played few song from the previous group like Whiskey, Stupid and Devil Woman. After all those were written by me. We also played from time to time Hanoi Rocks, Dogs D'Amour, Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders, Hassisen Kone and Chuck Berry.
Right away we had our first mini-tour around the Finland and it was probably the the most fun I've ever had in my life. Sleeping in that small van and doing crazy shit every day. We didn't even have name for the band yet. Don't get me wrong, TG was great and people liked us. But with the Bones it was a total madness. People were crazy about us!
We recorded our first EP, did two TV-shows, interviews, bar had named a drink after us and all kinds of crap. And lot of gigs, everywhere where it was possible. Had a person selling gigs for us. Unfortunately she was a pathological liar and asshole, ripping us off. She took us all the way to the Estonia, where there was nothing waiting for us. No gig let alone money.
The next year brought the winds of change. Dave decided to call it quits and we had to get a new bass player, Pietari. Things continued rolling, gigs and another EP.
And after couple of years I got tired of being blonde. :D
But history repeats itself and nothing lasts forever. The band had slowly started to fall apart. I started to alienate from the rest of the group. Little reasons but so many of them piled up. Bad bad thing. So at the beginning of 2013, after 52 gigs together, I left the band. Really a sad moment, at least for me, but these things happen. We had such a great time and it took me a long time before I was able to meet with my former band mates. But we're all cool now and still great friends. They've been on stage at our gigs and vice versa. I still miss Muddy Bones from time to time, but I'm just glad it didn't ruin our friendship for good!
I don't know if I have that much of saying about this current group. Not because there's nothing to say, on the contrary! It just doesn't have that nostalgic feeling of the previous bands yet.
After parting with the guys from MB I felt lost. Soon I realized there's no time for sobbing and I gotta keep moving! So a bit too hastly I gathered a group of people around me. Edward Low on guitar was a great call. At first he wasn't that good of guitarist, but playing with a proper band improved his skills fast! I asked Artur to play bass. I got acquainted with him already in the 2011 when he applied for bassist place in MB. He didn't get the place but we became really good friends. Then I found Mikko, the lead guitarist and Santeri, the drummer.
The band was ready in less than a month and we started to play short acoustic gigs. Whiskey from Tragic Gunns / Muddy Bones, Last Bandit from Dogs D'Amour and She Ain't Coming Back; our first original song.
Gigs we're at first mostly in the places meant for underaged people. Not so much bars or pubs. We got stuck playing mostly near and around the Helsinki. Recorded our first EP. We wrote a few new original songs. We also played Rolling Stones, New York Dolls, Johnny Thunders and Dogs D'Amour. (We still do actually.)
Things happened slow and at first people didn't find us or care for us. Something was missing. But in the September our drummer left the group and I reunited with my old former band mate from Tragic Gunns and Sïoux Falls, Johnny Christer. It had been over two years since we last time played together for real. The band was starting to get better. We wrote new stuff and continued doing gigs. Then something happened. We had decided that we need to do some changes and in December our lead guitarist Mikko was the one to leave. We felt that his playing and personality just didn't fit the rest of the band. We had couple of gigs with Lany London (from Tragic Gunns) to fill-in. Sometimes I had to play the 2nd guitar. (Actually had done this few times with TG as well.)
Then in February we got the injection we desperately needed when Teemu joined our band as a lead guitarist.
Finally the band felt complete. Our live shows got drastically better and people slowly started to come and see us. Recorded our second EP last summer. Last few months have been great. We've had much more gigs (especially now that we've got someone to book them for us) and we're not stuck anymore in Helsinki. It's time to travel all around the Finland! And finally the audience we so much needed!
So there's a brief history for you! Let's see what happens in the future. Hopefully big things. This has been one crazy trip and it seems there's no end in sight! And just for fun: here's a pic of Mary Celeste on stage with the former members of Muddy Bones! Just to back up my words!
