I can recommend Aegisub (https:// github . com/TypesettingTools/Aegisub/releases/tag/v3.4.2 (afaik, tumblr doesn't allow links in anonymous asks. Just remove the spaces)) for subtitles. This way, you can add both main text and t/ns in the same subtitle file (as well as change the colors, font, etc if you want to)
c:
Hello!! Thank you so much for the link!
Aegisub was actually my first choice (since it's the one people usually use for fan translations of anime, and you can style the subtitles more) but I couldn't access the original website and can't quite figure out how github works orz So the link is super helpful!
[update] Sorry for the late reply!! I checked with a more tech savvy friend on which file to click on lol
I have it on my PC now!! There's lots of stuff going on but I'll. figure it out đ Thank you again (ÂŽâœ`ÊâĄÆȘ)
hello! it's been months since the latest post on here sorry đ
BUT i've gotten a pc recently and am thinking of redoing the translations as subtitled clips from the game!!
the audio + sprites are indispensable to convey the characters' tones; different from a novel, which itself is completely text-based and uses other ways to convey nuance that i could also translate as text
hopefully with the voice and character sprites the atmosphere would shine through better! thank you for putting up with my translations so far đ
(#3) Assignment Report: Check Out the Materials Found
Duration: Whole Day
(ârequest start) (triggered automatically upon completing (#2) Assignment Request: Look for Materials at Takiâs Home)
Requested by: Taki Tooru
While going through the storehouse at Takiâs house, we found some materials that we might be able to reference for our report.
There was also an old map that caught my eyeâŠ
Iâll go to Takiâs home again some other day.
(â¶request in progress)
Shrine Area - Takiâs Home
Tanuma Kaname: Yo, Natsume.
Natsume Takashi: Tanuma! It sure is hot today too.
[door opening]
Taki Tooru: Ah, Tanuma-kun, Natsume-kun! Come on in, come on in!
Natsume & Tanuma: Pardon the intrusion.
Natsume Takashi: âŠIs this the mountain of information we found yesterday?
Tanuma Kaname: Looking at it like this, there's quite a lot.
Taki Tooru: Ahaha⊠I tried going through it, but there was just too muchâŠ
Tanuma Kaname: HnâŠ? Hey, isnât that mapâ
Natsume Takashi: Yeah, thatâs the one I found.
Tanuma Kaname: I wonder if this is an old map of the area?
Taki Tooru: As for that, I ended up not understanding it at allâŠ
Natsume Takashi: So was it just a doodle
Taki Tooru: Itâd have been nice if place names at least were written down, but there were no names that could serve as any clue.
Tanuma Kaname: Youâre right. If weâre talking about clues, itâd have to be this mark here.
Natsume Takashi: It looks like some kind of landmark⊠âŠI wonder what it means.
Taki Tooru: It's a peculiar shape, isnât it⊠The first one is a mark of a dog-like animal.Â
Tanuma Kaname: The second is⊠a mark like boiling waterâ
Tanuma Kaname: The third is⊠a face? Four circles above a rectangleâŠ
Tanuma Kaname: Beyond this third mark is probably the goal, and there is a jagged line over the tree as a landmarkâŠ
Natsume Takashi: There's a "â" next to the tree⊠It kind of looks like a treasure map, doesnât it?
Taki Tooru: âŠâŠA treasure map?
Natsume Takashi: Taki?
Taki Tooru: âThatâs right, I remember nowâŠ!
Taki Tooru: This... This is a treasure map my grandpa drew!
Tanuma Kaname: Then... What does this mean...?
Taki: Um, when I was littleâ
Taki Tooru: When my grandfather brought me to the storehouse, he found this map and showed it to me.
Taki Tooru: When grandpa was still a kid, he hid something precious here... he said.
Natsume Takashi: Could it be at this place marked with "â"?
Taki Tooru: Yep; he did his best to make it so that no one could find it, it seemed.
Taki Tooru: Because of that, he said that he couldn't remember the meaning of the marks at all...
Taki Tooru: Thatâs why I said âIâll find it for you!â to him.
Taki Tooru: âGrandpa was happy to hear that⊠He said: âIâll be counting on you when youâre a little olderâ.
Tanuma Kaname: I see, there was a promise like thatâŠ
Taki Tooru: Yeah. "Leave it to me!" I proudly said. Even then...
Taki Tooru: âI ended up forgetting about it completely.
Natsume Takashi: TakiâŠ
Natsume Takashi: (Takiâs grandpa, Shinâichirou-san, passed away when Taki was still young.)
Natsume Takashi: (A promise with that grandpaâŠ)
Taki Tooru: Sorry. I was feeling a bit nostalgic by myself.
Taki Tooru: So, this map might be unable to serve as reference material. Shall we look at the other documents?
Taki Tooru: Um, I also foundâŠ
Natsume Takashi: Hey, Taki.
Natsume Takashi: Now that you've managed to find it, why not try searching for the treasure this map points to?
Taki Tooru: âŠEh?
Natsume Takashi: We'll end up having to go to a lot of different places for the assignment report anyway.
Natsume Takashi: Wouldnât it be the perfect opportunity to go treasure hunting?
Tanuma Kaname: Treasure hunting; that sounds interesting. I'm kind of excited.
Taki Tooru: âŠIs it okay?
Tanuma Kaname: Of course. Right, Natsume?
Natsume Takashi: Yeah. We want to help too.
Taki Tooru: You two⊠Thank you!
Tanuma Kaname: Now then, letâs start by deciphering this mark.
Taki Tooru: If we could figure out what the dog, water, and face marks mean, we would know the location of this tree with the jagged line.
Natsume Takashi: Then⊠First up would be the mark of the dog.
Taki Tooru: Could it be a place related to dogs
Natsume Takashi: Then again, is this really a dog in the first place?
Taki Tooru: Grandpa was good at drawing, so I think itâs a dog, butâŠ
Taki Tooru: HmmâŠ
Tanuma Kaname: Itâs getting late today, so letâs continue this another time.
Tanuma Kaname: Letâs split up and investigate, and share what we find.
Natsume Takashi: Youâre right.
Taki Tooru: There might be some hints to the marks on the map in the storehouse. Iâll try going through it a little more.
Tanuma Kaname: Then, the treasure hunt has started.
Natsume Takashi: (Now then⊠Iâll try investigating the mark of the dog first.)
Rewards: 500P
Natsume Takashi: (I copied the marks from the map into my notebook, butâŠ)
Natsume Takashi: (...How do I go about investigating it?)
Natsume Takashi: HmmâŠ
Nyanko-sensei: It's finally time to rest, and yet youâre staring at some paper; how dull.
Natsume Takashi: If thatâs the case, then help too, sensei.
Nyanko-sensei: I have an important matter to attend to now!
Natsume Takashi: At this hour? That meansâŠ
[window sliding open]
One-Eyed: Madara-samaâ!
Ox-Faced: Sama, sama~
Natsume Takashi: âŠI knew it.
Nyanko-sensei: Thereâs a banquet going on after thisâȘ
[window sliding shut]
Natsume Takashi: Donât drink too much, okay.
Natsume Takashi: (Gone in a flash.)
Natsume Takashi: âŠNow then, for now⊠Itâs the dog mark.
Natsume Takashi: (A place where a dog is likely to beâ Was it the pet of someone in the neighbourhoodâŠ?)
Natsume Takashi: (Thereâs no way Iâd know who had a dog at the timeâŠ!?)
Natsume Takashi: (This is a problem... I got stuck right away.)
Natsume Takashi: (I guess I'll just have to go out tomorrow and gather some information.)
Natsume Takashi: (Iâll try going to a place with lots of people.)
Natsume Takashi: What are you doing outside when itâs this hot?
Tanuma Kaname: Father said that since itâs the summer break, heâs leaving the cleaning of the temple to me.
Natsume Takashi: By cleaning you mean⊠the entire grounds!?
Tanuma Kaname: It might be a wide area, but Iâve always done it like this.
Natsume Takashi: Living in a temple can be difficult tooâŠ
Tanuma Kaname: This is still easier than it used to be, you know. When it was an abandoned temple, I didn't know where to start.
Natsume Takashi: (Even though he said heâs used to it, itâs going to be tough for Tanuma aloneâŠ)
>Help with the cleaning
(Other option: >Do it later)
Natsume Takashi: If you don't mind, could you let me help you?
Tanuma Kaname: How could I- Iâd feel bad.
Natsume Takashi: If you were to do it alone on such a hot day, you might get heat stroke.
Natsume Takashi: We could get it done in half the time with two people. Also⊠If you ended up collapsing, itâd be difficult to work on the assignment.
Tanuma Kaname: Whatâs with thatâ Then Iâll take you up on the offer, Natsume.
Tanuma Kaname: Thank you.
Tanuma Kaname: Let's start by sweeping the grounds. Please gather the fallen leaves on the approach to the temple.
Natsume Takashi: Yeah, got it.
Everyday Request: Temple Clean-up
Requested by: Tanuma Kaname
Letâs help Tanuma, whoâs been tasked with cleaning up the temple.
We should be able to finish it quicker than doing it alone.
(â¶request in progress)
>Investigate the shining spots on the ground
I raked up the fallen leaves thoroughly.
Nyanko-sensei Spotted!
Natsume Takashi: Nyanko-sensei, what are you doing in a place like that?
Nyanko-sensei: Donât disturb my precious naptime!
>Investigate the third spot
Natsume Takashi: Ah!
Tanuma Kaname: What is it? Natsume.
Natsume Takashi: This fallen leaf looks like Nyanko-sensei.
Tanuma Kaname: Hn? Youâre right. Fufu, itâs as round as Ponta.
Natsume Takashi: He ate too much the other day, and ended up like this too.
Tanuma Kaname: Hahaha! That sounds just like him.
Natsume Takashi: Ahahaha!
Tanuma Kaname: Thank you for going out of your way to accompany me, Natsume.
Natsume Takashi: Itâs fine; I was the one who said I wanted to help.
Tanuma Kaname: To be honest, I thought I wouldn't finish it by today if I had been alone.
Tanuma Kaname: Next time Iâll be the one to help you, so just let me know if thereâs anything.
Tanuma Kaname: Thank you very much for today, really.

Assignment Request: Look for Materials at Takiâs Home

We will be shown the storehouse of Taki's home to gather old documents and materials.
Iâll try going to Takiâs home in the shrine area some other day.

Natsume Takashi: Tanuma! Sorry to have kept you waiting.
Tanuma Kaname: Ah. Pontaâs here too.
Nyanko-sensei: Hmph. There's no way I'd forget the promise of Nanatsujiya manjuu.
Tanuma Kaname: Ahaha. Thatâs just like you, Ponta. Then, shall we go in?
[ding-dong!]
Taki Tooru: Welcome! Thanks for coming even though itâs hot.
Natsume & Tanuma: Please excuse the intrusion.
Natsume Takashi: Gulp⊠Thanks for the barley tea, Taki.
Tanuma Kaname: It's especially good on a hot day, isnât it?
Taki Tooru: Hehe, Iâm glad to hear that.
Taki Tooru: Here, Nyanko-sensei! Nanatsujiya manjuu!
Nyanko-sensei: Mu, mind me not.[1]
Natsume Takashi: Thanks, Taki. To think you even prepared manjuu.
Taki Tooru: Itâs nothing. Iâm asking for your help after all.
Natsume Takashi: Then, letâs head to the storehouse after taking a breather.
Tanuma Kaname: Yeah.
Nyanko-sensei: BunyaâŠ!!!
Natsume Takashi: What is it, sensei?
Nyanko-sensei: Cobwebs! I canât get it off⊠Take this! Take this!
Taki Tooru: Iâm sorry; I do clean regularly, butâŠ
Nyanko-sensei: Even so, this is definitely the most peculiar place in this house. I sense a lot of strange magic going on.
Tanuma Kaname: I see; Ponta has never been to this storehouse before.
Taki Tooru: At the time, if I remember correctlyâ He left after eating the youkan, right?
Tanuma Kaname: We were surprised when we first came here too.
Natsume Takashi: By the kokeshi[2]⊠By the masksâŠ
Taki Tooru: Ahaha⊠The other members of the family find it creepy, so they wonât come in hereâŠ
âŠCome to think of it, thenâ
The number of kimonos⊠There was a third one only I could see.
At the time, I ended up keeping quiet about it so as not to scare Tanuma and Taki, butâ
âif it was me nowâ
Taki Tooru: âŠNatsume-kun?
Tanuma Kaname: Did something happen?
Natsume Takashi: Eh, ah, itâs nothingâ
Tanuma Kaname: Is that so. Then thatâs goodâŠ
Taki Tooru: Even if you do see something, donât do anything reckless alone, okay?
Nyanko-sensei: Hmph, you have me as your bodyguard. I'll work for my share of Nanatsujiya manjuu.
Natsume Takashi: âŠThatâs right; thank you. Iâll rely on you too, sensei.
Natsume Takashi: (Iâm able to rely on everyoneâs help like this now.)
Taki Tooru: Taki, are we out of manjuu? Youkanâs fine too.
Taki Tooru: Hehe. Letâs eat again after we finish going through the storehouse?
Tanuma Kaname: Yosh, letâs start.
Natsume Takashi: Phew⊠Just a bit more to go.
Taki Tooru: Yeah. Did you find anything that could be used as reference?
Natsume Takashi: I found some ancient literature. What about you, Tanuma?
Tanuma Kaname: I found some documents too. And this is the last shelf hereâŠ
Natsume Takashi: (Yosh, Iâm almost done as well. âŠI wonder whatâs in this box?)
Natsume Takashi: (Thereâs a scroll in here. This isâŠ)
Tanuma Kaname: Natsume, did you find something?
Natsume Takashi: Yeah, it looks like a map of some place.
Tanuma Kaname: If itâs somewhere in the area, wonât we be able to use this for reference?
Natsume Takashi: âŠBut this is⊠hand-drawn.
Taki Tooru: It looks like a doodle, doesnât itâŠ?
Tanuma Kaname: Perhaps⊠Taki drew this when she was small?
Taki Tooru: Mn-n⊠I donât rememberâŠ
Taki Tooru: Iâll check it out once we've finished sorting out the storehouse.
Natsume Takashi: Got it; Iâll leave it to you.
Taki Tooru: Phew⊠Weâre done~!
Natsume Takashi: Thank you for your hard work. Itâs looking much cleaner now.
Tanuma Kaname: Yeah. Besides, there were quite a few things that could be helpful to us.
Taki Tooru: Thank you very much for helping, everyone.
Taki Tooru: Everyone's already exhausted for the day, right? Why donât we check out what we found next time?
Tanuma Kaname: Sounds good.
Natsume Takashi: Shall we meet in front of Takiâs home again?
Taki Tooru: Yeah! Letâs do that.

Nanatsuji Area - Before Nanatsuji Park
Natsume Takashi: How did it go, you two?
Tanuma Kaname: Ah, my dad told me a lot of stories. I was also able to borrow some documents.
Tanuma Kaname: Theyâre mostly about the temples and shrines in the area, but I think they could be useful.
Natsume Takashi: Woah⊠As expected of the son of a temple priest.
Tanuma Kaname: They seem like a difficult read, though.
Natsume Takashi: Haha⊠Letâs do our best together.
Taki Tooru: How did it go for you, Natsume-kun?
Natsume Takashi: Ah. Touko-san and Shigeru-san told me a lot of their memories.
Tanuma Kaname: The Fujiwarasâ memories⊠Iâm kinda interested in that.
Taki Tooru: Right? What was it like?
Taki Tooru: Itâd be nice if we could also reminisce about the past like this for someone someday.
Tanuma Kaname: Haha. Someday, we might tell someone about that time the three of us and one animal put our heads together for a summer break assignment.
Nyanko-sensei: Fufun. If youâre going to be talking about me, make sure you elaborate on and on about how I was a charming and noble daiyoukai, got it~
Tanuma Kaname: And um⊠Your favourite foods are ikayaki, fried shrimp, Nanatsujiya manjuuâŠ
Natsume Takashi: Coming home drunk at night⊠That doesnât feel noble at allâŠ
Nyanko-sensei: What did you say..! How much do you think I've helped you!? You ingrate-!
Tanuma Kaname: Haha, you might be passed down as a cat thatâs cute on the outside but an old man on the inside, Ponta.
Nyanko-sensei: Elaborate more on the noble part!
Natsume Takashi: Right, I borrowed a historical novel from Shigeru-san. Itâs set in this town, so I thought it might be useful as a reference.
Tanuma Kaname: Ah, my dad has this book too. I think itâs set in the area of the rice terraces.
Taki Tooru: If Iâm not mistaken, thatâs where Shibanohara and the temple are, right? We might be able to use the book for reference for the report if we read it!
Natsume Takashi: So, how did it go for you, Taki?
Taki Tooru: I took a peek in the storehouse, butâŠ
Taki Tooru: Itâs so big that I havenât been able to look at everything⊠Sorry.
Natsume Takashi: It is quite largeâŠ
Taki Tooru: There has to be something in there that can help with the assignment! Iâll do my best.
Natsume Takashi: Taki, can you let us help you?
Tanuma Kaname: Yeah. It must be a lot of work for you to go through the storehouse by yourself, Taki.
Taki Tooru: Is that okay? Thank you! Itâll be a big help.Â
Tanuma Kaname: Yosh, then itâs decided.
Taki Tooru: Will you be coming too, Nyanko-sensei?
Nyanko-sensei: Iâm not that free, you know. Helping humans with their assignments and what-notâŠ
Taki Tooru: I'll prepare plenty of Nanatsujiya manjuu!
Nyanko-sensei: âŠ!! Hmph, then it canât be helped. I guess I could go along.
Tanuma Kaname: Then, letâs gather again at Takiâs home.
Taki Tooru: Yeah! Iâm looking forward to it.
Natsume Takashi: (Takiâs home⊠If I remember correctly, itâs in the shrine area. Iâll try going over there another day when Iâm ready.)
Natsume Takashi: Itâs the mid-ranks. What are you guys doing?
One-Eyed: Hiiiie! N-Natsume-sama!? W-W-W-What brings you here!?
Ox-Faced: What, what!?
Natsume Takashi: Nothing in particular; I was just passing by though.
Natsume Takashi: You guys⊠Youâre kinda suspicious, sneaking about like that.
Natsume Takashi: I hope you're not up to anything bad.
One-Eyed: No no, no such thing, no such thing.
One-Eyed: We are just living our lives in amusement as usual, having fun.
One-Eyed: Well then, we are busy, so weâll be taking our leave for now!
Ox-Faced: Taking our leave, taking our leave.
Natsume Takashi: Suspicious⊠Nyanko-sensei, what do you think?
Nyanko-sensei: Whatever it is, whatever theyâre planning to do, there's no telling what they can actually accomplish.
Nyanko-sensei: You donât have to pay it much mind.
Natsume Takashi: Is that so⊠But, Iâm still curious after all.
Natsume Takashi: Letâs try following them.
Nyanko-sensei: Do as you please. Iâm going back~

Natsume Takashi: Hinoe! Do you have a moment?
Hinoe: Oya Natsume. What is it?
Natsume Takashi: Actually, itâs something thatâs been happening recently, but the mid-ranksâ behaviour seems suspicious.
Natsume Takashi: They seem to be searching for something. Do you know anything about this, Hinoe?
Hinoe: The mid-ranks? I wonderâŠ
Hinoe: Now that you mentioned it, theyâve been sneaking about near Furuuchi High School recently.
Natsume Takashi: Furuuchi High School huh⊠Iâll try going there.

Ox-Faced: Indeed, indeed!
Natsume Takashi: You made this? Are you using it for something?
One-Eyed: I'm ashamed to say, but we made it to give to Natsume-sama.
One-Eyed: We wanted to show our gratitude to Natsume-sama for always looking out for usâŠ
Ox-Faced: Made it, made it!
One-Eyed: Indeed; carving the wood, pulping the paperâŠ
One-Eyed: In this way, we have created an innovative and fashionable design.
Natsume Takashi: (Fashionable⊠Is that so?)
One-Eyed: To think that I would drop and lose it right before giving it to Natsume-samaâŠ
One-Eyed: Well, talk about embarrassing.
Ox-Faced: FhmâŠ
Natsume Takashi: Haa⊠So this is what itâs about.
One-Eyed: So, while it's strange to ask you againâŠ

Nyanko-sensei: I canât move a single step moreâŠ
Natsume Takashi: But even so, collapsing in a place like thisâŠ
Natsume Takashi: Can you get home by yourself if you eat something?
Nyanko-sensei: N-Nanatsujiyaâs- Nanatsuji manjuu⊠Otherwise I definitely wonât be able to moveâŠ
Natsume Takashi: No such thing!
Nyanko-sensei: There is if I said there is~! Natsumee~...!
