They are, I believe, what people call youkai.

A lot has happened since I arrived in this town…

Meeting Nyanko-sensei, and inheriting the Book of Friends my grandmother left behind.

The Book of Friends—

My grandmother Reiko, who is said to have had strong spiritual powers, challenged and defeated many youkai—

As proof she had the youkai write their name down on paper, forming contracts that cannot be resisted when their name is called.

Having inherited the Book of Friends, I spend my days returning names to the youkai who occasionally visit me, asking for their release—

And so, with Nyanko-sensei as my bodyguard, I return the youkai their names in my grandmother’s stead.

Along the way, I met many people and youkai.

Classmates from school, people that can see the same things I do.

Friendly youkai, the people and youkai who accepted me—

Hey! Thanks for the translations!

I can recommend Aegisub (https:// github . com/TypesettingTools/Aegisub/releases/tag/v3.4.2 (afaik, tumblr doesn't allow links in anonymous asks. Just remove the spaces)) for subtitles. This way, you can add both main text and t/ns in the same subtitle file (as well as change the colors, font, etc if you want to)

Aegisub was actually my first choice (since it's the one people usually use for fan translations of anime, and you can style the subtitles more) but I couldn't access the original website and can't quite figure out how github works orz So the link is super helpful!

I'm using Subtitle Editor for the main work, and Subtitle Edit when I need additional subtitles (like translator's notes) on the top of the clip

Since tumblr doesn't have a CC off/on toggle to my knowledge I'm burning the subtitle file onto the .mp4 itself with Handbrake c:

hello! it's been months since the latest post on here sorry 😔

BUT i've gotten a pc recently and am thinking of redoing the translations as subtitled clips from the game!!

the audio + sprites are indispensable to convey the characters' tones; different from a novel, which itself is completely text-based and uses other ways to convey nuance that i could also translate as text

hopefully with the voice and character sprites the atmosphere would shine through better! thank you for putting up with my translations so far 🙇
