there's not really much evidence behind this but what if the two planes are a metaphor about the child abuse that is mentioned during petscop? like, the gift plane is what abuse looks like to an outsider, bright and cheery, nothing wrong. but then the newmaker plane is what is actually happening, or from the perspective of a victim. it's dark, scary, even unsettling. it's also hard to understand, unlike the gift plane, where everything is set out for you. i hope this makes sense??

Okay. I know it's not exactly an out there HC but I honestly think the tool is used as a sort of harvesting and implanting tool. Like when the tool is red pinkish it's mike's soul talking and when purpley pink it's tiara. They died to the same fate as Newman's friend via the tool in the windmill and are potentially ready to be reborn anew like she was.
