When I’m near you, I can’t control myself at all.
But what do we do with that? If God teaches us to love, but we’re not allowed to love each other, then what’s the point of having a God in this world?
I still want to be with you. I still want a future with you.
I’m tired of hiding us. Is it worth it, though? Still not worth it. Worth it now, huh?
I am getting increasingly obsessed with the themes around self-worth in A Dog and a Plane. The way we are all socialized with toxic messaging that makes us feel like we can never, ever be good enough, how it prevents us from finding the things that will truly make us happy, and how love is one of the forces strong enough to break through the facade.
Kanit represents the messaging around romantic relationships, and how we are not complete without them - but only if they're "suitable" and have the right status. He's the person who stays in the relationship much longer than they should, and ignores the tells that they are not truly loved, because they view the lack of a successful partner as a personal failing.
Toto represents the messaging around how if you're born poor, and don't fit in with the dominant cultural expectations around achievement and propriety (and, let's face it, light-skin), then you are automatically lesser, and there's nothing you can do about it. He's the person who has a beautiful heart but gets dismissed over and over again because of how he looks and behaves.
Akki is the former golden boy, the high school athlete who was expected to go pro, and when that didn't happen, was relegated to being insignificant. He's the person who others like having around, but forget the moment he's not there anymore.
Veha (who I think got a lot of unfair hate) is the former invisible boy, the one who didn't conform to the cultural beauty standards that determine how valuable we are as people. And once he did conform, it attracted someone who only saw his external worth. He's the person who desperately wants to be seen, so clings to the closest option, regardless of how much it ends up hurting.
It's all so relatable.
I can't wait to see them all love the hell out of one another. Because in the end, that's the ultimate "fuck you" to our stupid societal standards, is to love one another - and ourselves - fully and completely, as we are.
If you’re here to gloat, just say it. If you’re going to insult me, just do it.

There are still... things that make me... waver. TICKET TO HEAVEN (2026)
What are you doing? Keeping watch over you. I'll stay here until I get an answer. You really don't give up, do you? I'm not usually this persistent, you know. Just answer me. I really want to know. I'm not answering because I really don't have an answer.

If Lion can’t make your dream come true, why don’t you find someone else to do it? I’m both relieved and sad. I’m relieved it’s over, but I’m sad I used to love a bad guy like him. Take it as a life lesson. You did your best. Cut that shitty person out of your life. None of it was your fault. You were a good boyfriend.

Hey, this bed is really soft. I’m just giving you inspiration.

Whatever's on your mind, just tell me. Please talk to me, I'm begging you. I don't understand, Barth. I don't know anything. I don't even understand myself. You do. You're just scared to admit it, aren't you? You know everything, don't you? That I'm not God's favorite son.
