Hess is More
2/26/2013
A word of reminder on my calender.
"Hess is More", words from a stranger.
It's been up written up there for days but what is it? what does it mean?
You wouldn't normally trust a stranger telling you how to spend a Tuesday night but, fuck it, I'm on a date.
I am alone and ready for a musical experience. Upon entrance, I am happy to be here. I've seen great bands here at Glasslands so I grab a Brooklyn and check out the stage. All electronics are lit up and ready for action when a trio takes the stage! They are looking fresh, moving in step and bring good energy to the room. DJ starts the track and delivers easy listening beats with cool bass waves from stage left. The vocalist becomes center with his light brush strokes over the music while, the DJ keeps the story moving with his beat machines. There is light dancing and foot stomping but ample room to soar higher. I would color their sound as a light blue, and rich pink with moments of yellow. Good taste but not spicy enough. I enjoyed the Frenchmen's take on modern electro-pop.
I could've been annoyed by "Hess is More" but they did exactly what I wanted. From the first note, I was in. With 7 members on stage this beat is going through a clinic. I became heavily drugged by their sound, with moments of pure ecstasy that could make a man cry because, it's everything you wanted and more. The music is driven by a car with two steering wheels, while electronic drums hold down the 1, everyone else gets a turn to drive the dance machine. Tribal percussion, rock kit, xylophone, key-tar, synth, horns, guitar, bass guitar. All the ingredients for a feast in sound. I had 2 beers yet, I was high the whole time... words cannot do their set justice. It was an experience that music lovers & dance enthusiasts ought receive in communion. I got lost in the music and found joy.
After the gig, I exchanged what I felt about the set with Martin, the percussionist. He is loosely quoted here, "No two shows are ever the same, depending on rehearsals & members. We play the themes with our band leader calling shots." The information I got about this band was that they are a collective based out of New York but, the band leader and his brother travel around the world performing. They keep busy with music.
I believe what I witnessed is the future of live dance music... it pleases a wide palette. Who thought it could be so simple? I guess Hess really is More.

Who does the Excalibur belong to?
In the dictionary “destiny” is a noun… not a verb. But if so much of its meaning revolves around the events that occur, the actions we personally make and all the uncontrollable events we face, why is it represented as a stagnant freeze-frame of an end result? Maybe it should be classified as an adjective, since the word is most always associated with being lucky, fortunate or blessed. That boy was always going to become king. That man was always going to be a profitable CEO. That championship was always his. This type of an end result is much more than a lucky accomplishment; it comes from the highest of authorities…with an official stamp. Someone, somewhere took the time out of their existence to pre-plan this, way before it ever took place. We are conditioned to believe that those that work the hardest, live the purest and pray the most, are the ones that are rewarded with such a pat on the back. So, what kind of a notice does a man that loses his job due to a poor economy, house to a flood or life to a silly war receive? This must surely mean that the rest of the “unlucky” ones are bad people that in no way contribute to society and do not deserve any of its fruits. Positivity is always highlighted, if sometimes in black. Before we go further you need to decide whether destiny applies to all or just some (careful, pending decision may alter your life)…otherwise it will be difficult justifying the existence of such a concept when we see that at least ½ of our race lives in poverty. (http://www.statisticbrain.com/world-poverty-statistics/) Or, we accept the fact that a great number of people were born to suffer, fail and nothing more...at a disturbingly accelerating rate. You need to accept the fact that it is the destiny of 22,000 children to die DAILY because that’s what they were born to do (http://www.globalissues.org/article/26/poverty-facts-and-stats) “Destiny of the misfortunate” just doesn’t have that nice ring to it. Can someone be destined to be a serial killer, homeless or a pedophile? Or does destiny apply only to the ones that “make it?” After all, every dynasty was properly backed by the sun, and from childhood we are raised to associate kings and rulers as good people that want nothing but the best for their servants. Many religions have used it as a tool to justify outcomes in the past and even in the present (http://www.motherjones.com/mojo/2013/02/intelligent-design-missouri-evolution) Does destiny control us or do we control it? Is either even possible? Some take the approaches of sailing free and letting be. Others do everything in their power to micromanage their outcome.
It’s true, every choice we make has a consequence down the road; so looking back we can re-trace the path. But we can only go so far back. We don’t know if any of our previous existences have had any impact on our current situation. Nor do we know when it is that our true destiny will come full circle.

Words?
Used for what?
And, in what case?
Often I've wished for expression greater than words.
But, when it comes down to it,
It's probably the mode we often focus on,
When in reality it is the most detached form we have.
Almost any other form of expression is more direct and honest.
Sick and tired of writing these words.
Nothing is more tiresome than finding those "Right" words.
Would like to just act and express what "I" feel to "You" directly;
A feeling of greatness,
And a line of hope that leads to a place far better than here.
Just want "You" to know, what "I" hope to know...

There is a lot of noise in life you have to fight through
In a world where we strive for individuality and distinction within an ever growing human population i see very little pure action from anyone. Its usually a reaction at best. So lets react. This time it feels like a reaction to the unwanted external influences, social pressures and the hypocrisy that we face daily. So far its just a conversation with a faint hope of a call to arms, a reflection on the delusion under which it is assumed that now we are happier, healthier, smarter and more free than ever before. It bothers me that as we gain better understanding of ourselves and our surroundings it slowly becomes apparent that we are doing nothing more than committing a self inflicted and self perpetuated cultural suicide, where in the name of cultural preservation and a blind belief in outdated values we often curb others happiness as well as the progress of social living.
In this social state we have come to find a culture for many considered to be worth aspiring too, where people without much hesitation compromise their lives just to get a taste of this sweet nectar. And so we face a constantly growing level of anxiety, depression, suicide and a general discontent with life. Most people dream daily of nothing more than making a radical change to their current situation, yet they sit still. More and more people are accompanied by constant displeasure with what is available to them even-though everything is available at arms length. The idea of greed has become one of humanities most exploited traits, where we have been successfully hijacked by simple yet effective economic illusions around which we have created social norms that force us to constantly upgrade ourselves, all within a false reality built around synthetic needs.
Somewhere along the way we lost the idea that individuals have the capacity to define their own needs and their own happiness. We arrive at a disconnection with ourselves where working and spending becomes the lifestyle. In return for our most precious commodity, our time, we are promised more control over our lives. Regrettably the exact opposite is true. We are nothing more than just passengers. So is freedom in fact real? One thing is for sure, freedom must be the most abused and misinterpreted idea of our time. Suddenly the greatest creation of our society has encroached upon those same freedoms that it promises creating yet another paradox.
I take the liberty to use “we” as I do not wish to take a “holier than thou” attitude and point fingers, since I too am part of this culture and I too have fully embraced the entire spectrum of this temporary relief to entropy. This superficial gap filler contributes to our inability to embrace and communicate the simple things like the joy of discovery or creativity. On a much larger scale we choose to ignore real problems like the dysfunctional utilization of energy around the globe, because the intractability of the problem and the vast availability of passive entertainment leads us right back to the temporary relief. There is a need to illustrate a reflection to the current social norms where each one of us can draw our own conclusions and hopefully realize that we are capable of controlling our own lives despite the social triggers. Every action we take and every choice we make has a much wider consequence than just the initial results. We need to focus on all that connects us rather than what makes us different, we are in need of progress driven by more informed actions starting with our daily individual lives.
As someone wise said, we are emerging upon a new renaissance or a new dark age ... the choice seems to be ours to make.

Ruski's Poetic Manifesto
In a day that's a night as proclaimed by those "right" The Nobles will show you the way When your soul feels no warmth despite all that you're worth Do not fall for the illusion ploy
Floating around in a dried up lake
For our cause is essential for you to awake
Universally guided and yet earthly provided
Full circle your conscious will come
Entertain and inspire, enlighten with fire
The Nobles will show you the way
