A young girl came up to me and asked me for a list of all the vampire romance books in the library. I was in a hurry as there were several patrons behind her, so when I went to search our records for the word “vampire”, I was surprised when the system only came up with one hit. 

…until I realized that I was searching the patron records. This man’s name is not vampire or anything like it, he doesn’t borrow a lot of vampire books, there was NO REASON for his name to come up, but for some reason when I typed in vampire, the system brought up his name. 

So with that in mind, I think I need to go buy some holy water, a stake and some leather pants. Frankly, I knew what I was getting into when I became a librarian.

Hey I just wanted to add one thing to the discussion about Aziz Ansari and criticism of him for oversimplifying what a feminist is. I get the complaint- BUT- it seems to me like what he's responding to is the many people who reject the term feminism, Bc it's a "bad word," but if you asked them, would answer that they support equal rights and are against violence and objectification (and more). He's saying hey, you can't do that- and he's right, you have to embrace the word to end the stigma.

I agree with what you’re saying 100%, that he’s trying to demystify and normalize the word. Which is CRUCIAL, since confusion around the word and around the real goals and motivations of feminism prevents a LOT of people from helping. 

Anti-feminists have done a painfully good job of painting a negative picture of feminists and their motivations. 

Resulting in a ton of people including - at different times - Taylor Swift, Lady Gaga, Shailene Woodley, Bjork, etc. etc., - to refute the feminist label, even as they were basically living embodiments of feminism:

- Care about women

- Care about LGBTQIA+

- Generally progressive 

- Strong and self-directed business women and leaders
