im just. sad. thatâs it. really sad. numb? i guess. today is sad.
okay so hereâs a revolutionary idea: what if⊠a musical gaining popularity doesnât make it,,, bad????
my new fav aesthetic:
titles of bootlegs on youtube: âWHAT IS A MUSICAL? THIS? THIS ISNT A MUSICAL?â or one that was blatantly ânot __________ on broadwayâ
Evan Hansen doesnt eat pizza crust
an easy guide to musical theater songs
If the titleâŠ
1. has an ordinary everyday object in it, itâs not really about that object
See: Ring of Keys, To Break in a Glove
2. is an infinitive phrase (has a word ending with -ing), itâs the characterâs life philosophy song. It will be quoted again later to show Character Growthâą.
See: Dancing Through Life, Waving Through a Window
3. is an imperative phrase (giving a command), someoneâs a) at serious risk of dying or b) being seduced
See: Bring Him Home, Stay Alive, Say No to This, Light My Candle, Touch Me
4. contains (reprise), someoneâs dying. Maybe theyâre already dead. Bring tissues.
See: Stay Alive (reprise), Iâll Cover You (reprise)
5. has âskyâ in its title, itâs overused as an audition song
See: Giants in the Sky, Corner of the Sky
A series.
Every time I see somebody trashing Dear Evan Hansen, it becomes evident that that person has never known what itâs like to hate yourself because youâve never seen a character like yourself. Theyâve never known what itâs like to feel like they can never be something, never be someone, because no beloved characters would ever be like you. Theyâve never experienced the relief of finding out that the main character of one of the biggest musicals of the year is finally like you. Finding out that a character, loved by so many, feels the same way that I do, is the same way that I am. It feels like I could actually be loved some day. Dear Evan Hansen is so important to me, and the fact that these people hate it so much because they donât know what it means for so many people makes me so sad.
This musical means so much to me and itâs so heartbreaking to see people hate on it. The show has really helped put my feelings into words and perspective and made me feel so much less alone. Knowing there were other people out there who felt exactly like I did or cared enough to pay so much money to see a show about someone exactly like me has helped me feel okay with myself and accept parts of myself I couldnât before finding this show. Can a musical really be so bad if it has helped people feel better about themselves?
as handsome and cool as we all know jeremy is, i doubt he thinks the same about himselfÂ
based off of this song!! (which i love, itâs really relatable and plus the artist is one of my faves)
