to anyone who doesn’t understand why I’m always so fucking proud of dan, if you weren’t here in 2012 or before you might not GET it completely. you can go back and watch old videos and be like “wow he’s changed” but it’s so different having watched the progression happen, having watched old live shows as they were happening and not just the highlights. he used to be so incredibly insecure about everything, and it manifested in him being overly cynical and sarcastic and defensive. he couldn’t go five minutes without insulting himself, and not jokingly like “I’m a mess lol”, but literally saying in a live show “I hate everything about myself” and you could tell he meant it. he would never not straighten his hair, he would never talk about boys, he would never even consider painting his nails. someone once asked in a live show “are you gay?” and he responded (very genuinely, might I add) “would it matter if I was? would you stop watching my videos?”. he’s always been a soft caring sweetheart, but if you didn’t follow him closely and you just watched a video in 2012 you might not think that. it might’ve seemed like he was judgmental sometimes because of how he reacted to things, but he wasn’t. he was just scared of being judged.

 but now? now he goes out of his way to make sure everyone feels valid and important no matter who they are. now he leaves his hair natural and talks about learning to love yourself. now he talks about boys and is open with his male celebrity crushes. now he’s painted his nails and says “gender rolls are the worst kind of bread”. now, instead of making up stories about how he and phil met through a mutual friend, he calls himself phil trash #1 and calls phil precious and angel bean and “the warmth and light you bring to our lives is as everlasting as the sun”, instead of pretending that he hates phil in videos. now he wears bright colours often, something he once said would only happen when his general mood changes. now he ends his live shows telling people it’s okay, you’re fine, you’ll get through this, take a deep breath, you are valid, you are enough. now he tweets things like “it’s so important to know you should be happy and proud of who you are”. now he’s happy. and he’s still in the process of learning to accept himself, learning to love himself, but he acknowledges that. he’s still insecure, sure, we all know that. he still insults himself sometimes or calls himself trash. but if you can’t see how incredibly far he’s come, then you haven’t been paying attention. so excuse me if I can’t get behind edgy hate towards dan. if I don’t call him trash or think he’s too loud. if I don’t care that he posts silly videos licking cartridges because it’s not “"quality content”“ when quality content imo is just dan being happy, you know?? and that growth has a whole lot to do with being around phil and having that support, but that’s a post for another day.

 so yeah, I’m gonna be soppy and cheesy and over the top about him because he deserves it, and that’s just who I am – thanks to dan always encouraging me to be soft and be myself.

I live in a place with vocal nazis and vocal members of the KKK. You go to school with them and to work with them and they’re given guns and badges.

It’s dangerous. It’s terrifying. But what is also dangerous and terrifying is all the people who don’t necessarily agree with them, but who excuse them or justify them or say “but they’re good people” or “Johnny helped mow my lawn last week”

Well, Johnny has a swastika tattooed on his arm so fuck Johnny. Johnny’s a piece of shit. This is how they win, you fucking cowards.

Every decent person shares the sentiment “Ayy Fuck Nazis”. There is no way to be a decent person and not actively hate and despise all Nazis and their ilk.

The sad thing is we’re living in a world where people have forgotten this. Have forgotten the basic door to humanity has “Ayy Fuck Nazis” written on it.

I’m glad Daniel Howell put it in the back of his video. I’m glad two million or so people will see those words that it seems at least my corner of the world has forgotten.

It’s a small thing, but it’s a small thing that so many people aren’t doing anymore, aren’t doing enough. So…
