I find it really interesting that in this part of the story, it is Askeladd, who shows up to advice and motivate Thorfinn. Even Askeladd's final words, urging Thorfinn to move on and find his own way, to become a real warrior, were echoed in Thorfinn’s vision.

In contrast, we’ve seen a disappointed Thors chide his son, before he was dragged down, not even trying to help. Maybe Thorfinn isn’t ready to face his father, maybe doesn’t feel deserving of his support, after all he’s done...

…but he is finally ready to listen to Askeladd, who, while not a good man, was so much alike, was even a father figure of sorts, and did try to reach out back when he was still alive.
