āDo you love me enough that I may be weak with you? Everyone loves strength, but do you love me for my weakness? That is the real test.ā
ā Alain de Botton, Essays in Love
Shoutout to people that were raised in abusive households that are constantly working to re-wire and heal the toxic behaviors they learned.
Showing Love Through Food May Be Making Our Pets Obese And Unhappy
When I looked at my appointment book for the day, I thought something must be wrong. Someone who worked in the fitness industry was bringing his cat in to the Tufts Obesity Clinic for Animals. Did he confuse us for a different kind of weight management clinic? Is he looking to get muscle on his cat or maybe kitty protein shakes?
I was utterly surprised when I called for my appointment in the lobby and an athletic man stood up with an almost 20-pound cat! I asked if I could speak bluntly with him. Why does someone who clearly knows a lot about keeping healthy need to bring his cat to a veterinary nutritionist? What would he say if the cat was one of the people he helps to keep fit every day? Our conversation then went something like this ā¦
āWell, Iād tell her, suck it up, buttercup. Do some kitty pushups and no more treats!ā
āWell, I have to ask, then, whatās stopping you from doing this with your cat?ā
With a worried look of guilt on his face, he replied, āWell, Dr. Linder, I mean ⦠she meows at me ā¦ā
This was the moment I realized that I was treating pet obesity all wrong. I needed to focus less on the pet and more on the relationship between people and their pets. Thatās whatās literally cutting the lives short of the dogs and cats we love so much.

if you want to actually start to end homelessness, you need to give homeless people unconditional homes, including when we use them to do drugs or sit around drinking. either housing is unconditional or it isnāt
someone sitting at home alone, an active alcoholic, squandering your charity, drinking all day is better situation than a street homeless alcoholic. someone using drugs in your charity house is better than them doing the same w no shelter
most of you would not like most street homeless people, I definitely donāt and didnāt when I was street homeless. for every one person who uses unconditional shelter to turn themselves around, someone else will do jack shit and very slowly, if ever, work through the issues that made them homeless, will maybe never be able to live independently. still better than street homelessness, still worth doing. ultimately either you believe that shelter should be universal or you donāt
homeless people actually canāt be rehabilitated if you want to end homelessness. we either affirm the right to shelter for the worst drunken, lying, filthy, cheating, self destructive homeless people that exist, genuinely irredeemable wankers, or we concede that shelter is not a right

It's finally done, I just played it for the first time. My @cherryhilldrums 14x7 aluminum reinforcing ring prototype. This originally wasn't going to me, but a stroke of good luck made it possible. The shell is Ziricote and Burmese Gold Camphor Burl with the first set of aluminum reinforcement hoops ever put on a drum, with all aluminum hardware, all done at Cherry Hill. The hoops are @angeldrumsofficial aluminum angel hoops. Heads are @remopercussion CS clear batter, Ambassador hazy snare side. Wires are @masshoffdrums 24 strand that I grabbed in Berlin. Coffee in Space: Keeping Crew Members Grounded in Flight
Happy National Coffee Day, coffee lovers!Ā
On Earth, a double shot mocha latte with soymilk, low-fat whip and a caramel drizzle is just about as complicated as a cup of coffee gets. Aboard the International Space Station, however, even just a simple cup of black coffee presents obstacles for crew members.
Understanding how fluids behave in microgravity is crucial to bringing the joys of the coffee bean to the orbiting laboratory. Astronaut Don Pettit crafted a DIY space cup using a folded piece of overhead transparency film. Surface tension keeps the scalding liquid inside the cup, and the shape wicks the liquid up the sides of the device into the drinkerās mouth.
The Capillary Beverage investigation explored the process of drinking from specially designed containers that use fluid dynamics to mimic the effect of gravity. While fun, this study could provide information useful to engineers who design fuel tanks for commercial satellites!
The capillary beverage cup allows astronauts to drink much like they would on Earth. Rather than drinking from a shiny bag and straw, the cup allows the crew member to enjoy the aroma of the beverage theyāre consuming.
On Earth, liquid is held in the cup by gravity. In microgravity, surface tension keeps the liquid stable in the container.
The ISSpresso machine brought the comforts of freshly-brewed coffees and teas to the space station.Ā European astronaut Samantha Cristoforetti enjoyed the first cup of espresso brewed using the ISSpresso machine during Expedition 43.
Now, during Expedition 53, EuropeanĀ astronaut Paolo Nespoli enjoys the same comforts.Ā
Astronaut Kjell Lindgren celebrated National Coffee Day during Expedition 45 by brewing the first cup of hand brewed coffee in space.
We have a latte going on over on our Snapchat account, so give usĀ a follow to stay up to date! Also be sure to follow @ISS_ResearchĀ on Twitter for your daily dose of space station science.

I know National Coffee Day is almost over but who can pass up reblogging a combo of coffee, science and gifs? Nobody, thatās who. -Carla
