“Got it!” Ekko chimed back. “One or both?”
While waiting for an answer Ekko tore one of the drumsticks off and placed it upon her plate before having to tear into the breast. In hindsight perhaps he should have grabbed a knife, but he was worried about how Nat would fare with one here. He wasted no time in making sure he had a decent portion upon his plate either as the boy’s stomach was gnawing at him.
—≪☢≫”One for right now. I want to save room for some of the other things you brought. I can always go back for seconds of it.”
She accepted the plate eagerly from him, instantly starting to chow down upon the meat. A delighted hum left her lips as she savored the taste… Piltover people sure did know how to live it up with good food, that was certain.
“True, the desserts looked awesome! That’s why I nabbed them!” Ekko declared. “I think I’ll start nabbing more and more stuff to spruce up this little shack, but at least we have the bare essentials. Some food and water, I even managed to get us those pillows and blankets for covering and resting on.”
There was no way he could pinch an entire sofa from anywhere, but a few cushions was definitely not out of the question. Leaving the thoughts behind for now he finally took a bite into the food he’d tore for himself. A hum that matched her’s left the youth’s lips. Damn the food was good. The fact that other things were waiting to be tried had his mouth watering.
“I’m glad I can be sharing this food with you Nat.”

His smile turned to a frown as Janna explained her circumstances before the calling. It remained there as shock filled Ekko’s eyes as the divine avatar of wind so easily gave out her age. The idea that Ekko was in love with someone who had that many more years of life experience on him was unsettling. Not due to her age or their age gap, but because it made him even more uncertain as to what he really had to offer her.
“I don’t think that’s right.” Ekko finally replied. “Too many people have to get by like that if they don’t work in a factory. Some still do.” He explained. The boy was upset by the fact they mocked her. “Both of my parents work in the factories just for us to barely get by. Sixteen hours every day, no breaks. Yet we can’t afford anything past the necessities. There’s so much to change, to fix to make Zaun the great place I see in my dreams.”
It then occurred to Ekko that perhaps he said too much about himself. Janna was meant to be his focus after all.
“Sorry. The poor treatment of you got me thinking about my life goals.” Ekko apologized. “If you were getting by only by those means… Does that mean you were an orphan?” The inquiry was close to home. While he wasn’t one Ekko often ran with and was friends with most of the Orphan kids that lived in the slums.
—≪💌≫ “ No, no, I don’t mind at all. It’s interesting to learn more about you. In regards to your question, actually yes, I was. I don’t remember my parents at all. “
Life on the streets… Being afraid. A few important faces were a blurr to her memory, she always wondering if they were her parents or not. The images would never focus long enough for her to dwell long enough on them.
“I’m lucky then.” Ekko answered with a small smile. “I run around the slums with the kids who don’t have any. Even with their memories bringing them warmth, memories don’t fill stomachs.” He elaborated. “I know it causes my parents a bit of trouble, but stealing so they can eat isn’t something I can avoid. Besides, it’s easier for me to get away if someone notices.”
A slum dog kid he may be, but the youth had his pride. His pride, dreams and moxie had been enough to carry him this far. A long road was waiting ahead, but maybe Janna’s gentle breeze would be enough to keep Ekko from diverging from the road he’d chosen.
“I dream of a Zaun where kids don’t go hungry. Where Pilties don’t look down on us. A Zaun where we’re an equal power and known for more than just the pollution that makes everyone down here sick. I probably won’t ever be able to stop that first one realistically, but I want to try.”

More after prom? He’d have to think on that for a moment, but more would be pretty cool. The idea of more dates made him blush. More dates with the most popular girl in school? How could anyone say no to that? It’d be a lot of work and did make Ekko wonder if she’d be worth it. Still he had to answer her questions and that alone wasn’t easy.
“Alright, taking these one at a time and from the top.” Ekko stated as a means to ready himself. “I’d love to do more with you after prom. Both the night of and after. The thing that worries me is if you’ll get bored.” He explained. “If this can open the door to more dates though, I’m down. I do actually care about who you are as a person.”
—≪❤≫”Despite my popularity, don’t let it get in your head that I’m not easily impressed or am high maintenance. I’m just as normal as anyone in this school. I’m not even sure how I climbed the social ranks here… But yeah. Just be yourself, Ekko.”
She did hate that there were rumors circulating that a person to get her attention at to be at the top of the social food chain to have a chance at going out with her. IT sucked. She was certain it ruined a lot of potential encounters.
This one was going to work, dammit.
“You, high maintenance? I didn’t think that one bit! your tails on the other hand? I’m looking forward to learning how much care goes into each and every one.” He admitted. “I can at least promise you that I won’t show up in some gadget suit. Well, it might have one or two small ones. Enough to uh...”
Ekko paused. Did he really want to admit he didn’t dance that well? It’d probably be better than doing some kind of hijinks with the suit and shoes.
“Actually.. When are you next available? I’ve got something special we could probably do in terms of preparing for prom.”

—≪☢≫ “Drumstick!”
No hesitation on her part, it was always her favorite piece. She bounced a little in place, the horrors that had taken place in her mind just minutes prior, forgotten. Her stomach was occupying most of her thoughts right now with as loud as it was being.
“Got it!” Ekko chimed back. “One or both?”

—≪☢≫”Okay…”
She carefully picked one of the bottles up, taking a sip. Then she smiled, pointing a finger at one of the turkeys.
“Let’s get right to the meat, hmm?”
“You want to dig into the main course first?” He asked with a laugh. “Right to the point as always Nat!” Ekko continued with a big smile on his face.
The boy slowly dug out the only things he hadn’t shown off; two plates he’d pilfered. One was set out before each of them before bringing his hands to the turkey.
“So, you want a drumstick or do you want some of the breast meat form the body of the bird first?” Since he wasn’t picky himself he didn’t mind offering any of the good stuff away to her first. besides, Ekko knew she needed some quality food in her stomach.

Ekko’s eyes lit up at Ahri’s last remark. If he could have that noticed and received well he’d up for some major and amazing opportunities. That sort of thing was impossible to pass up. As he realized where his mind was going though, Ekko stopped and shook his head.
“Look, I may be in over my head here making you a promise like that.” Ekko confessed. “But believe me when I say I’ll do my best to make sure it’s a prom you don’t regret taking me to.” He continued. “Here’s the thing though. I don’t want you to try and give me that sort of incentive again. I don’t want to be driven by some ulterior motive to try and make it a night to remember. I just want to do it so we have fun. So with that off my chest, I’ll have to decline that offer.”
—≪❤≫”I don’t mind. Let me just set the dates up in my phone. Are we going to do anything after the event or is it just prom? Also are you looking for this to turn into more dates afterwards or what? Like, I totally got to know where we stand. I’m totes open to anything.”
She hummed as she typed away on her phone.

—≪♔≫ “You have to stop being so reckless. It’s going to cost you or someone else their life.”
A sigh came. This wasn’t the first time Ashe had brought this lecture to the table and it wouldn’t be the last. He thought for a moment though. It wasn’t like when he was a kid, the people he cared about could remember when he rewound, when the fights would reset. Hell he even kept track of how close people’s vitals got to ceasing before he would rewind everything. Ekko felt like he had to.
The goal of the left hand was to be the one doing everything in secret or close to secret. All of the work the young man did were things where he had to mostly work alone until the situation meant otherwise. Everyone had their place in the resistance when it came to teams. Everyone except Ekko. Ashe had Leona and they’d gone on to become lovers, Lucian and Fiora had brought Yi into their fold to help him recover and then there was Ekko. In a way he filled in the missing part of Ashe’s unit, but most of the time he felt disconnected.
“I’ll be more careful...” Ekko answered. He wasn’t even willing to argue right now despite having a counter ready. The psuedo master of time just wasn’t in the mood. He’d been thinking about his place in the resistance, even over thinking it probably.

—≪☢≫ “It’s wonderful! Thank you…”
She knew he had to steal, but they had no other choice. Maybe when she found a job or had some sort of income, she’d be able to payback what had been stolen. Then again… If she thought about all she owed, there would never be enough to cover all the damage there was.
“Where should we begin?”
“Anywhere you’d like Nat. We can start with the turkey or we can start with the assortment of foods. Oh! I forgot!”
Ekko quickly dug out two bottles of Ionian Spring water and set one down beside each of them.
“I snagged those too so we’d have something to drink with our meal. I want you to pick because this is the first time in a while you’ve had much freedom of choice. That I know of at least. And in this frame of mind. I want to help solidify it as the base structure for you to continue to amaze yourself with the endless possibilities you can achieve when your demons and skeletons have been abolished.”

—≪✨≫”Oh yeah, we need to put that up.”
She knew exactly what he was talking about. The mistletoe… This was going to be fun. She hopped up, off his lap, skipping over to the last box they had opened, fishing it out.
“Hm... The question is, where to put it.” Ekko mused as he looked around and considered their options.
There was over any of the doors that wasn’t the front. They could hang it over the entrance to the kitchen. There wasn’t a hallway at all as it was a single bedroom apartment so the options were fairly limited.
“Any idea where you prefer it be put up Nat?” Ekko asked in an attempt to take into consideration her preferences.

—≪✨≫ “That’s right… I remember that. It was amazing.”
She leaned in, giving him another kiss on his cheek. Good memories… She knew there had to be some, despite what happened to her later on. Thank the stars all her screws weren’t loose anymore or they’d be sunk just having this conversation.
“Remember the time we dyed Vi’s hair that awful shade of green?”
“How could I forget?” Ekko asked while going into a fit of laughter. “She was so pissed with us. Everyone was commenting about how grass could naturally grow in Zaun for weeks!”
Not only had she gotten angry with them, but Vi had practically chased the pair around all of Zaun and even through Piltover. When it was all over the three did buy some ice cream though. It was a fun experience all in all.
“Man, those days were great.” Ekko sighed. “I like the present better though and for once I’d say the future looks pretty damn bright.”
stardust-winds:
—≪💌≫”For me… It was wonderful. It was nice to leave the life I had been forced into. I finally felt like I had a purpose in life. Unlike, you, Ekko, I was in very dire circumstances… The only way I was getting by day to day was prostitution and thievery. It’s why some in Zaun still mock me instead of seeing me as a way to know that no matter what, there is always a way out of where you are.”
She leaned closer.
“It’s hard to believe after nine hundred and thirty five years, people still enjoy making a mockery of me.”
A giggle, as she leaned back away. She wasn’t angry or upset, more of disappointed with society. Sad to see that some things never changed. Perhaps, someday, Zaun could be transformed into the beautiful place she dreamed of.
His smile turned to a frown as Janna explained her circumstances before the calling. It remained there as shock filled Ekko’s eyes as the divine avatar of wind so easily gave out her age. —≪☢≫ “Jerome…”
It was a calm statement of his name this time. She rested against him, letting out a sigh. She was okay… She had overcome it… This time. It was a small worry in the back of her mind what could happen if a much more violent attack happened, but she supposed there was no point in worrying about it now.
“So what did you bring us?”
“Well...” Ekko began as he pulled away from her.
The first thing Ekko did was grab one of the extra thick blankets.
“I snagged us two of these.” He explained again now that he had Jinx’s attention and she was calm again. “One for us to put on that lumpy makeshift bed of ours and a second one for us to actually cover up with.” Afterwards he set the blanket down and grabbed the pillows. “As well as these so we don’t have to use the sandbags.”
The pillows were now set atop the blankets as to not get them dirtier. Afterwards the large turkey and the other finger foods were pulled out of the sack and carefully placed on to of it to keep them off the ground.
“And I got us a mini feast! What do you think?”
