its ran by @bug-fix, its a phayze-centric blog but will also include all posts about balloon game!!

the process of its initial creation was unpleasant, to say the least. it's a refurbished zomg that eventually underwent further modifications at its own request, taking inspiration from many of the other bosses- but especially the three paralloons (dragoon, maveripp, and orcinyx). it actually wishes it were a paralloon too, but unfortunately no amount of modifications could make it functionally the same as one 💔

it went for a speed and agility-oriented build, allowing it to escape from most situations with relative ease. because it's very new to the life of a bloon (and a boss bloon at that), it's not used to fighting the monkeys and prefers to stay away from conflict, much to bloonarius' dismay. like dragoon, it's even working on befriending monkeys behind the other bloons' backs! (much to its surprise, its efforts are much more successful!)

it's fond of seafood, but it hasn't quite figured out how to eat without a mouth yet...

I can't believe I never mentioned this publicly until now, but I have a positively massive collection of bloons lore (google docs version) from many ninjakiwi blog posts (it doesn't contain everything, but it contains a lot) and I try to update it whenever a new blog post comes out

danger dino noodle!!! (diamondback redesign)

elite form and some thoughts under the cut (content warning for images of a dinosaur skull and a real life snake)

I decided to really lean into the reptilian theme with this. diabloceratops was my main source of inspiration for the head, while I tried to make the other segments look more rattlesnake-like. the rattle tail was left largely unaltered because I felt that aspect of its design works well as is.

I thought giving it a beak (which ceratopsians like diabloceratops had, as seen in the image above) would work better than its current "mouth" for supporting a pair of fangs. turns out I was right, it looks a lot more realistic and fierce now!

I decided to replace its eyes with much more reptilian ones, albeit elongated. (they were partially inspired by a thought I had, back when it was first announced, that its eyes could be a pair of red bloons.) I don't have much else to say about them aside from the fact that they also bulge out (it's hard to tell with this side view though) like those of a small reptile- including certain species of vipers (not rattlesnakes unfortunately). it can be a bit goofy-looking as a treat.

now for my favourite part of this redesign, the crystals! I like to imagine that the crystals are almost some sort of magical disease, slowly spreading across its head, then eventually its body segments as well (this doesn't cause it any harm, though). in its elite form the crystals spread more quickly until it's almost completely engulfed by them in its final tier.

I was thinking about how, after dragoon was popped by leviathan, there was probably an autopsy overseen by dr. monkey (since it's very likely that popped bosses don't just disappear and instead have pieces of their entire body strewn everywhere, like all other bloons) and that made me realize that most of the other bosses were probably given one too. that's the nature of science ig

I still think that phayze pulls a dragoon and just teleports away after it's taken enough damage tho. safe... for now

there were definitely some terrified, maybe even traumatized researchers when they saw for themselves what dragoon is actually made of.

new headcanon that actually makes sense: phayze spends most of its time upside down so it can watch the monkeys. it doesn't do this in battle because all the explosions and stuff hurt to look at

which leads to my other headcanon which makes less sense: phayze is actually invulnerable but during battle it regularly updates its texture so the monkeys think the fight is fair. it eventually teleports away really dramatically so the monkeys think they won (they didn't)

the second would make a bit more sense if it already didn't have a shield ..

like it can definitely just teleport away and repair somehow but the damage it takes is probably real

diamondback is roughly 400 years older than bloonarius

bloonarius, dreadbloon, blastapopoulos, leviathan and vortex are similar in age (by boss bloon standards), with bloonarius and dreadbloon being ~1 year apart, dreadbloon and blastapopoulos being ~7 years apart, blastapopoulos and leviathan being ~3 years apart, and leviathan and vortex being ~9 years apart

lych was resurrected fairly recently, about 200 years ago

skout is the youngest, having been transformed less than a year ago (it's roughly 2,000 years younger than vortex!)
