“You don’t happen to know if any places around here are hiring, do you?” Morgan approached someone at random. She was always a rather blunt person, after all. “It’s kinda hard to pay the rent without a job, y’know?”
finn blinked at the girl walking up to him, repeating the question in his head as though trying to understand exactly what she was asking. after a moment, though, he smiled at her and shrugged. “there’s always a few places downtown looking to hire. at least, from what i’ve seen. you might still be able to use whatever you came here with, though. a lot of people seem to be managing.” he tilted his head and gestured at the girl. “new to town?”

Adora struggled as at least three male waiters tried to pull her off of Catra, they succeeded but she continued to flail, grabbing at her old enemy. “How did you bring me here?!” She demanded, “What did you do to Glimmer and Bow?!” She felt both so angry and so confused. Somewhere in her mind she knew that there were people in Rivergate who didn’t remember their pasts, but Catra could never be trusted. “Stop pretending!” She shouted, “You know exactly what you’ve done!”
catra retreated, shoving the arm of one of her co-workers from her own with a violent shrug. she was many things - amnesiac, difficult, prone to naps when she shouldn’t take them - but one thing she wasn’t was a coward. whoever this crazy was, she wasn’t about to back down, common sense be damned. “i have no idea who you are!” she snapped back, gesturing around them. “i’m trying to work! if you want food, sit your ass down and order something. if you don’t, get the hell outta here or i’m calling the cops.” glimmer, bow - none of these names meant anything to her, and nor did the blonde. the concept that she was from her forgotten past? that terrified the girl, but she put on a stubborn face. no way was she showing her that she was scared.

finn glanced down at the document in his hand and back up at the imposing building before him, feeling a little weird about it all. things had been much simpler in the rebellion - turn up, pick up a blaster, chase after rey or poe or rose and hope none of them died. it had become simple, in a way. this? taxes? school? having an actual future he could plan out? it was terrifying, and he wasn’t entirely sure he could handle it all by himself. regardless, this was how this city worked. at least he didn’t have to worry about stormtroopers suddenly invading. he looked around for a moment, spotting a woman walking past. “hey, sorry. do you know where the... uh.” he paused. what would it even be called? “tax department is?”

he was done. he was so done with this town already and he’d only been here a couple of months. he could check the calendar he’d brought and find out for sure, because he’d taken it to mark off each and every day he couldn’t figure out how to leave, but that was in his apartment and he was not. he was in the park, laying on the grass, waiting for whatever magic it was he’d conjured to get into this mess to take him. was it a little dramatic? of course. but look at his family; drama ran in their veins. “i’m sorry. i won’t mess with magic ever again. i promise,” he said to the sky, which didn’t answer him back at all. how very rude.

albus wasn’t overly thrilled with his latest change in circumstance, at least partially because he was freaking alone. the boy had never done well with being in complete solitude - he liked the quiet, sure, but he also liked knowing someone was in another room in the house and he could go bother them whenever he wanted, and with a family as large as his, he always knew where he could turn to for help, advice or even simply a hug. but no. he was here, in a seemingly muggle city, with no evident magic users (so his wand was staying firmly hidden on his person at all times) and now he was studying. or he was meant to be studying. albus had never found it easy to settle down and just focus, often distracted by a million and one things going on around him. even the library, chosen because of fond associations with so many people, wasn’t quite working the way it should. maybe it was because scorpius wasn’t there.
except, as albus quickly realised, he was. he was on the other side of the room, appearing in his vision. the former slytherin blinked and rubbed his eyes, before standing up and shouting, arms waving, completely forgetting where he was. “scorpius?!”

Adora had promised herself she’d get out more, knowing that’s what Bow and Glimmer would want for her–as opposed to being stuck in her room all day. So she tried the new restaurant down the street. It was affordable, so that was a plus. And she’d seen a lot of other students there. She was seated at a small table and looked through the menu. Then a familiar voice hit her ears. Adora didn’t think, she just let her instincts take over. “Catra!” She shouted, jumping out of her seat and tackling the waitress to the ground, “How did you get here?! What do you want?!”
one second, there was a cute blonde at the table, about to make her order. the next second, said blonde was no longer cute but fucking terrifying and had catra on the ground (catra all but yowling in surprise on the way down), pinned and unable to get up. she banged her head as she went down, seeing stars, her panic increasing when at least momentarily there were two of the girl. her vision cleared again as she tried to push the blonde off, shouting. “what the fuck?” she screeched as two of her coworkers rushed over, trying to assist her. “i just wanted your food order! i’m a waitress, that’s what i do!”

Morgan couldn’t get a single bar of phone service to call home, but thankfully the A.I. that she put into her smart watch seemed to still work like a charm. “Hey A.N.T, any god places to get a burger around here?” she spoke into her watch, which responded in her father’s voice that there was a restaurant less than five minutes from her. It definitely wasn’t normal for a girl to get directions from the voice of her deceased father, but to Morgan it was totally normal. As she began to walk she took notice of someone nearby. “Hey, this is a little weird but I clearly don’t know anyone around here and I really don’t feel like eating alone again. Wanna grab a bite?”
catra had been minding her own business, heading home from her shift at the crappy diner on the other side of town. she didn’t earn enough to move, didn’t have the qualifications - or history - to get a different job, and it was a miracle she managed to keep the job she had as it was. the shift had been a disaster, ending with her storming out and considering her options, but she knew she didn’t have that many. she didn’t remember her own past - it was tough to get references that way, and her attitude towards work had never been the best. so being stopped in the middle of the street by some random girl who was offering to get food with her?
actually, this was probably the best thing that had happened to her all week.
catra stopped, hands in her hoodie pocket, tail swishing behind her as she gave the woman a once over. “not as weird as you’d think,” she replied, two-tone eyes finally meeting hers. “you buying?”
