A lot has happened. Here's how things are now: my project was nixed by my guide without a replacement project, my lab environment has become so toxic that I feel completely isolated, I find myself with zero direction, zero progress and also a dirth of resources. I'm considering quitting.
So that's that.
Painted this using my new set of gouache paints. I'll stick it at my desk :D Good reminder to flip the flies regularly.

Although I hate staying up to prep for a tutorial in an area that I don't really have much utility for in my research, I'll admit that it's getting me to re-enforce some neural pathways that I'm sure I'd have lost soon.
Also, they kicked me out of the students' group chat :( how am I supposed to now spy on how they are (possibly) roasting my teaching? :(
My mentor is leaving the lab I'm gonna cry. She's like a lab mother to me and we've not spent enough time together I love her so much 😭

It's been a week of terrible struggle to get out of my room in the morning and feeling my teardrops seep inside my mask as I do flywork. Such is how it be right now.

With the 50% lab occupancy rules, I'm taking the later shift today. In the meanwhile, getting some reading done from room. Labwork is a bit sparse right now, but going to ramp up in a few days when my flies start eclosing (coming out of their pupae).
Also, these flowers I bought 2 days ago bring me so much joy!
Hello, welcome to my tumblr.
My name is Mim (she/her) and I'm a 24 year old queer, Desi biologist. I am starting out a PhD in neurobiology using genetic and molecular biology tools. My model organism is Drosophila.
I joined grad school a few months ago and have quickly realized what a massive adjustment it is. This blog is meant to be a space for me to explore my lessons, both in and out of lab, and to find an online community of people also going through similar things.
